AI music overtakes real band its modelled on

At least with the formulaic pop music made by humans, it keeps recording studios, producers and session musicians in work. -

AI music overtakes real band its modelled on
SteveXFR replied to SteveXFR's topic in General Discussion
Its a good way to discover bands you might never have heard of. Today I found an excellent post metal band called Humanfly who were listed as a related artist under a band called Dimscua who I discovered as a related artist under Cult Of Luna. So thats two bands who will sell me gig tickets and a t shirt next time they play Bristol because I found them through streaming. You don't have to use it if you dont want but its there for those who do and its not going to disappear. -
AI music overtakes real band its modelled on

Im a regular gig goer, merch buyer and physical record buyer as well. Streaming is where I often discover bands who I then support through gigs and purchases. Streaming isn't necessarily bad but it also isn't good. It's just a part of modern reality so why not try to use it in s positive way? -
AI music overtakes real band its modelled on
SteveXFR replied to SteveXFR's topic in General Discussion
The AI groups creator cited Holding Absence as the main band he used to create his AI album. You can hear it in instrument and vocal tones. Holding Absence are basically the same as late Bring Me The Horizon so I guess the AI geezer didn't use them because of their rather fanatical fans and big legal power. -

More people are doing that now and AI is a common reason for leaving social media. People don't want fake videos and rip off music -

Id sign up for that streaming service and Id pay more for it. AI music is a parasite. It feeds off real music while also killing it. -

https://www.loudersound.com/news/holding-absence-speak-out-ai-bleeding-verse-overtakes-spotify-listeners-2025 Rock band, Holding Absence have been overtaken in Spotify charts by an AI band who's music is modelled on theirs. This seems like a significant and very sad occurrence. The band works hard writing, recording and promoting their music and then someone uses their hard work to knock out an AI copy that makes more money at little to no cost.

Mine is the PJ, not JJ. It sounds nothing like a Fender PJ. The jazz Bridge sounds nothing like a fender jazz bridge pickup and the P pickup sounds nothing like a Fender P pickup. The preamp seems to be really aggressive. They are kind of their own thing, Spectors just sound like Spectors.

The bridge J pickup on my PJ Euro sounds nothing like the bridge on my Jazz bass so I doubt the J neck pickup will sound much like tge jazz neck pickup.

Your best (and worst!) bass gear purchases of 2025?
SteveXFR replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
My best purchase was my Spector Euro 4 LX from a member of this forum. Not only does it look amazing but it feels great to play and the tones I can get from it are brutal. My worst purchase was a Behringer sansamp clone. The first one didn't work at all, the replacement just sounded crap. The worst drive sound I've ever heard. Nothing like a sansamp -
Thats got it. Thanks

Im using a Boss TU-3 tuner pedal and after checking against a few other devices, I've come to the conclusion that its reading a semitone high. I checked the reference frequency by pressing both buttons together and its set to 0 which I believe means 440hz. Any ideas?

Flipping basses for profit – fair game or not cool?
SteveXFR replied to Allaboutthebass's topic in General Discussion
My Spector came from the BC classifieds from a nice gentleman who sold it to me fir what he paid and well under market value. I could have sold it on straight away for a very nice profit but I couldn't do that. It wouldn't be right. Its my favourite bass so im keeping hold of it but when the time comes, someone else on BC will get a bargain. -
My photos from last night are a bit grainy so, yea. Cheesy and grainy

What are your irrational prejudices? I have some bonkers ones...

Didn't Leo Fender launch G&L who then made active and passive jazz and precision basses? So maybe it wasn't his intention that they should only be passive. -
Skindred at the Cheese & Grain in Frome last night. They're a bit cheesy and their set includes a lot of padding but they really know how to entertain a crowd. The mosh pit was lively from start to finish and I think everyone there had a great time. The band certainly seemed to enjoy themselves. I took both my daughters and they loved it, I took the youngest (14) to the edge of the mosh pit which she loved. There was a noticeable lack of a bassist though, apparently founding member and bassist Dan left the band before the tour so bass was on a backing track so that was a shame.

That makes sense. Im playing a Spector with a really clanky, bright tone so muddling it up a bit has just taken off the edge a little.

Does anyone use the built in compressor rather than a pedal? Im starting to quite like it.

New Model Army at Cheese & Grain in Frome. Absolutely superb. After being delayed a year because their drummer needed back surgery they said the latest album didn't feel new anymore so they played a selection of songs from through their entire 45 year career. A brilliant performance. It was a lively crowd as well, I hadn't expected a big mosh pit but thats what we got! I finally understand where Ceri's distinctive tone comes from. Id assumed it was weird eq settings but he just picks right next to the bridge on a P bass. Opening act Autumn Saints were excellent as well and sounded like good American rock heavily influenced by NMA

Last night was Blood Incantation in Bristol. Absolutely amazing performance and great production. The first two thirds of the show was their new album in full but because of the album structure, it had to be all or nothing to make sense. If you don't know them, they're worth a listen. Not easy going but very clever with sounds ranging from death metal to almost Pink Floyd in places. Support band Oranssi Pazuzu were brilliant as well. Not sure how to describe them but I certainly enjoyed them. Unfortunately, I missed the first support.

The Revolt is ideal for what's being described here. Three channels. Clean is an Ampeg SVT model which can add a nice warmth with a bit of drive Dirt is a Marshall Super Bass model so gets you to that Lemmy tone depending on what bass you're using. Drive is a generic modern high gain model which is absolutely filthy but usable. Its valve driven so sounds really good. Its not cheap but I wouldn't be without it. Its all I use now for drive.
