  1. When I worked in automotive engineering we used a lot of Chinese made parts and as long as you keep on top of the QC they're fine. Give them an occasional non conformance note so they know its being checked and the quality is spot on but let it start to slip a bit and you get problems. I guess BMW and Harley didn't keep on top of their QC checks. Let's be honest, faulty wiring is part of the Triumph character. It brings back memories of British made Lucas wiring. There was a bloke on TV a while back with a Lancia and when asked whether everything worked he said If everything worked then it would be an Audi and I don't want an Audi.
  2. Close string spacing makes me want one even more
  3. I kind of want to try a Ric but they're way out of my price range so I can't incase I like them. It's a shame (for me) they never did a cheaper range of basses
  4. We don't fight - Booze & Glory Dammit, missed one
  5. Every single mass produced vehicle has loads of Chinese made parts and these days Chinese manufacturing is perfectly decent. Nothing wrong with Indian built bikes, the latest Royal Enfields are competing with the very best. I've got a Triumph at the moment but if I was buying new now I'd have the Royal Enfield Interceptor over a new Triumph Bonneville
  6. Heaviest matter in the universe - Gojira
  7. Sort of but technically it's the paint that is peeling off
  8. I had a car with a massive engine and that didn't use a drop of oil. It also used less fuel than my mates RX8 while producing more than double the power.
  9. I get the same result with the tuner first. If there's no signal in to the pedals then there's no noise out of them.
  10. There's a lot of dumb stuff for sale on Amazon but this has to be competing for the dumbest.
  11. I love the sound of fuzz in to a fazer but fazer in to fuzz doesn't sound as good to me
  12. They're brilliant if you want a tiny engine with the performance of a medium size engine and the fuel consumption of an absolutely massive engine. Their biggest advantage is their simplicity which makes the regular rebuild to replace rotor tips much easier.
  13. Tuner always goes first. The rest is a matter of trial and error. Mine is: Tuner - Compressor - Fuzz & Distortion - Preamp I do go for a bass tone which one would not traditionally describe as nice or desirable or even acceptable.
  14. Dammit you're right. I always thought the bass drone note shifted with the chord but it doesn't. Well that makes it a lot easier.
  15. Please keep the discussion to basses. Start a new thread for percussion discussion
  16. I kind of get the appeal of the Harley engine. They do feel incredibly unstressed and effortless. You will never shift down for a hill and they'll pull from pretty low speed in top without bogging down. They do feel more agricultural than most tractors and the vibration does mean bolts regularly come loose. It's the chassis I found particularly horrible when I rode one. I was conscious that I should take cornering very steady because of the limited ground clearance but I was shocked at just little lean it took to ground the foot boards. It also had to be fully upright before giving it any throttle or it just started weaving and wobbling.
  17. I know he has used it live but didn't he generally play an Aria the same as Cliffs?
  18. Is it just me or is this really tricky? At 49 seconds (in this video) the drone note changes from the open D to (I think) an F. I cannot work out how to play this and allow that note to keep ringing out while fretting the notes on the G string. Is it me or does this require particularly long and flexible fingers?
  19. I remember a Rig Rundown video with Nita Strauss where she said she uses her signature ibanez exactly as they are in the shops. Matt Freeman of Rancid had a signature Squier P bass but he's only ever played his Fender live. Doyle from Misfits (the guitarist) was asked about his signature guitar in an interview. To say he was not complimentary would be an understatement, he said no one should buy it because its all wrong.
