Is this better or worse than a drunk punter at a gig coming up and asking to play guitar with you for a song? I think it possibly is just because Mrs keys should know better and is (I assume) sober.

What has been your favourite band discovery this year? New or old band but new to you. For me it's Brutus. I saw them at Arctangent festival and they blew my mind. Interesting and original metal music. The singer/drummer is one of the most talented people I've ever seen live and the rest of the band are great as well.

I bought the Ibanez SRMS805 bass which was my best. I do kind of wish I'd bought a BTB805MS for the better pickups. I got rid of Orange Terror bass amp because it was terrible

My first ever gig (earlier this year) was in Barnstaple, a metal night at the Golden Lion. There seems to be a lively scene there.

Maybe now is the time to introduce some Rush covers and let her play them.

I've done one myself and got a pretty decent finish. You'll need a shed or garage with a heater to get a decent finish and it'll cost around £80 in materials. Good prep is everything if you want a good finish. It was my daughters Peavey International IV I painted. After four years of clumsiness, carelessness and general abuse it still looks great. That was also a cheap bass and it sounds great.

I just found them. Although this is a 5 string bass, I need 6 string pickups. Thanks for the tip though

I've got a multi scale, 5 string Ibanez SRMS805 which is great to play but lacks punch and bite. I play in quite a heavy band and just can't get it to cut through like my old P bass did. The pickups are 6 string width Bartolinis, I believe they're a far Eastern manufactured version of the P4. I was set on fitting Nordstrand big blade sixes but can't get them anywhere. Any suggestions for nice clear, punchy pickups?

I'm not familiar with that one but I should imagine that I wouldn't cover it for the same reason.

Best by miles is my Ashdown ABM600 head. An enormous upgrade from my old Orange Terror. I'm still working out settings but already sounding great. The Ibanez SRMS805 is very good but the pickups and preamp are a bit weak. It plays great though and was a bargain, like new for half the price of a new one.
