Our guitarist recently used a Line 6 Spider modelling amp while his Marshall was being repaired. Some amps sound amazing, most sound pretty decent but this thing fits in to the rare category of absolutely bloody awful. After half an hour of fiddling he couldn't even make it sound half way acceptable. All I could hear while we were playing was an unpleasant white noise, I couldn't make out any actual notes at all. He ended up switching to the old Marshall 4x10 bass combo in the corner of the studio which is terrible but did a better job than the Line 6. He wasn't even pushing the amp, all his distortion comes from pedals so most amps do a reasonable job for him but not this sorry excuse of an amplifier.

I bought my ticket for the Bristol show within half an hour of them going on sale! It's at an independent venue not the Academy so tickets were only £25, bar prices are reasonable, the sound is excellent and the band won't get fleeced on merch sales. A good or bad PA could make or break a Cult of Luna show, they can create such an immense wall of sound.

There were rumours of a bass version but it's not appeared yet. I'd definitely have one

I saw a band support Motorhead once and the drummer tried covering a Micky Dee drum solo. That didn't go well. When he played it the audience looked bored. When Micky played it the crowd loved it and he was so loud that filter lenses fell out of the stage lights leaving them without coloured lights for the rest of the show

Obviously that's the time to break in to the material from your experimental jazz side project. They're not in to it anyway.

More Cult Of Luna today, their Raging River album. What an absolutely blinding bit of heavy music. If you've not heard Cult Of Luna I recommend checking them out. Keep an open mind, this is a very long way from traditional metal and I find it very musically interesting as well as a little hypnotic.

I used to play in a band where both guitarist used these. They sound incredible and have some serious power output.

I saw them on the first tour when they suddenly went huge and they were amazing live. The records have gone downhill since then and the live performances I've seen have been a bit lacking. Maybe the sudden stardom following their first record had a bit of a negative effect

Black - Pearl Jam He repeatedly sings "tattooed hairy thing" throughout the song. At least that's what it sounds like. There are also mentions of "legs spread out before meat" and "sheeps on empty canvas"

I swap between fingers and pick depending on the song but I do it because of the different sounds. You could probably even it out a bit with EQ and compressor pedals but it'll all depend on how hard you're picking with each style.
