  1. Last night I received an email from our guitarist with an mp3 looping an absolutely disgusting, sludgy, doomy guitar riff. It sounds great but because he's gone so low with it, he's pretty much playing a bass part on baritone guitar (tuned to A#). This means the space left for me is pretty much a lead part which is something I have zero experience writing. Are there any good guides or rules or tips for writing a lead part? Or is it just a case of put it on loop, pour a whisky and jam until something happens?
  2. Toxic garbage island - Gojira
  3. Teenage dirtbag - Wheetus Terrible, dreadful song. Just really bad
  4. Don't forget a lot of what we pay for a Fender is import taxes. In the US they're considerably cheaper than in the UK
  5. Those things seem more like design preference issues than quality issues. What's wrong with a slightly ropey finish in an area you can't see? Fender are a business and as such their reason for existing is to make as much money as possible. For that reason it's to be expected that they would do the minimum and charge the maximum. If people keep buying them, that suggests they got the product and pricing right.
  6. I don't think there's ever been a time when you could get a complete 911 for £150. They were really cheap for a while but never that cheap.
  7. 924? They were worth nothing for years, now you can add two zeros for a nice one. I still think they're a bit crap though
  8. It seems to me this entire discussion comes down to "I remember when a P bass cost five shillings and sixpence"
  9. To be perfectly honest, I don't care whether it's mass produced or hand built, I'd rather judge the value of the finished article than how it was made.
  10. She don't use jelly - The Flaming Lips
  11. Does this count?
  12. Moron brothers - NOFX
  13. I touch myself - W**ker Double points
  14. Social lubrication- Tower of Power
  15. Nope. That made no difference. Adjusting pickup height fixed it
  16. Pickup height adjusted and problem solved. Thanks for the tips
  17. South of Heaven - Slayer
  18. I'm afraid that's where I need to be to work with the bands doomy music. There are quite a few bassists tuning P basses just as low or lower so it must be possible to make it work.
  19. Hard to tell. The low string just clatters the frets.
  20. Same note = different volume
  21. I can clearly see it when I record in to my DAW, the trace from my recording shows huge difference in wave amplitude between the low A# string and the others
  22. That's a big difference between E and A. Maybe I that's where my problem is
  23. I'm having trouble with volume difference between strings. When I'm with the band my lowest string is nice and clear but the volume disappears as I move across the strings. Im playing a Fender Mexican standard precision but it's tuned down to A# F A# D# and fitted with .130 .100 .080 .065 string guages. All four strings are the same height off the pickups. Any suggestions?
  24. Do Stranglers count as early 80s? I think Peaches has the greatest bass tone ever. Absolutely disgraceful and brilliant at the same time
  25. Today is the first Sunday this year we've not had practice. I'm bored now I miss the usual super loud session! Last week we had the walls rattling in another studio which is two units away! Some say a 4x10 is unnecessary, I disagree
