  1. A friend of mine is an ex pro prog and death bassist who loves jaco. He was always trying to learn jaco covers. I think all great musicians have an appreciation for the very best who played their instrument. I could never get in to jaco but I was crap
  2. He's still in Infectious Grooves. They're still active.
  3. At the end of my last ever gig with my originals sludge metal band, someone asked us to play Millionaire by Queens Of The Stone Age. At this point we were half packed away plus we don't know how to play the song plus we don't do covers. Plus we were set up two whole tones too low (the song has lots of open string based riffs). Plus we had to get off the stage so the headliner could set up. Apparently none of those excuses were good enough and we were unreasonable.
  4. Ashdown ABM600 EVO IV in great condition and including a gig bag
  5. Great venue although the sound is much better on the floor than up on the balcony. It's not bad on the balcony though
  6. A mate of mine had a pretty similar experience. Not good and less than half the punters made it to the end
  7. I saw them on the NINJA tour with Nine Inch Nails. They weren't great but looked like they wanted to stab each other
  8. My daughter is off to uni in September to study commercial music. The course has already produced a number of successful pop and rock musicians and producers and the head of department was a fairly successful rock musician. XFR junior will hopefully end up a successful musician with a degree. Possibly.
  9. Just tell people you have a BSc. They won't know it means bronze swimming certificate rather than bachelor of science.
  10. I know a band who do. Are you interested?
  11. Now I just need to find a doom metal band who want an incompetent bassist who doesn't really want to commit to anything.
  12. I decided not to go for it. Putting a classic rock station on in the car put me right off playing it. It really does nothing for me and some of it like Bon Jovi and Def Leopard I really dislike. It'll never work out.
  13. There are a lot of musicians with university educations and probably because of the number of bands who started while at university.
  14. Is it all in the tone wood? I bet it's all in the tone wood
  15. I'm not playing unless I'm going to enjoy it. If I don't enjoy then it's work and I don't need more of that unless it pays more than the day job.
  16. Is it possible to do the foot on the monitor thing with a multi scale 5 string?
  17. I was forced to endure their set at Glastonbury and now I dislike them even more than before
  18. That's a coincidence you were on your way as you read that post. Apparently putting yoghurt on the infected area can help. A friend said not to use a crunch corner though
  19. I will not play Status Quo. There's a line and that crosses it.
  20. I that's pretty much the same dimensions as the Orange 410 so I don't think I'd be any better off with it.
  21. Thanks. I'll get a set list and see what I could be getting in to.
  22. I've been asked whether I'll stand in for a local classic rock covers band for a few gigs. I generally play doom and stoner metal so have no idea how difficult it would be to learn an hour and a half of standard classic rock. Is it generally easy root note plodding or does it tend to be quite complex? I've just never really listened to this sort of stuff but I know they're a decent bunch so it could be fun
