  1. Stunning - I’m guessing this bass was probably the blueprint for the very Wal-like Enfield Cannon model, which I’ve had a fair bit of GAS for....... Alas; way out of my league, but GLWTS
  2. Walking in the perfumed garden of Gulliver Smith - Marc Bolan
  3. Neon angels on the road to ruin - Runaways
  4. I think you’ve found your true vocation Chris - time to chuck in this Psychology lark and set up as a custom bitsa builder....... Have to admit that if I wasn’t currently building my own Jazz bitsa, your no 3 would have been on its way to me......
  5. It was a reasonably popular option on Kramer basses back in the day, eg: https://reverb.com/item/3560547-kramer-dmz-4000-bass-guitar-metal-neck-half-fretted-half-fretless-from-1979-added-photos Never appealed to me; IMO the Ibanez Ashula is a much better design if you really had to have a single necked fretted / fretless bass.
  6. Lol, I suspect they would be improved but still sadly cr@p, and certainly underpowered. Mind, I do still use (and occasionally gig) an ‘80’s Marshall Silver Jubilee 3530 head, which to my ears sounds as good as any modern SS head. If rather underpowered.
  7. I’m happy to concede that, and I’d have loved to have seen the man play live in his heyday (very nearly did.....). As I said in my post; the original of “Knocking on heavens door” (one of his most covered songs) firmly remains my favourite version. I think the combination of his very individual vocal style (which can grate), sparse instrumental arrangements on the originals, and -as you say- very strong songwriting, lends BD’s songs perfectly for covering. Hendrix has been mentioned; I’d add Manfred Mann (Just like a woman), Byrds (Mr Tambourine man), and, Siouxsie (This wheels on fire)
  8. I had the head (Carlsbro Stingray) - circa 1978; first “proper” amp. Not much cop, but it was fun pressing the band pass filter buttons. And it had that “new amp” smell. Wonder where it is now.....?
