  1. Nice - from the description I'd say it was built as a flamenco (I have 3.......)
  2. As an aspiring classical violinist; it was entirely down to seeing JJB in the Stranglers in 1977 when I was 16. Still fiddle a bit
  3. I'm pretty sure that very bass was for sale on BC a few years back, with just the one neck (fretted), and around £4.5K less........
  4. I was at Liverpool Uni in '81 and avidly going to all the gigs I could, big and small (I still have my Eric's membership card......)- don't recall The Last Chant though. Looking back; how lucky to be in that place at that time
  5. Bought a Jazz body off ordep - smooth easy deal, great comms; buy from him with confidence.
  6. At the risk of sounding the curmudgeon I undoubtedly am; I would never buy anything (1) described as "pre-loved" (one wonders exactly what sort of relationship the former owner had with it.....), and (2) priced at anything ending in ....£99. Just call it £1.5K for F'----s sake. (Christmas coming? Bah humbug........)
  7. Nice - facing wood looks like thuja (thuya) burl.
  8. Ah, the JJB500! Very tasty, and a rare beastie. I'd keep the yellow piping
  9. +1 to that - after years of using hybrid Mesa and Eden gear in rock bands, I fancied trying something a bit more "modern" and transparent for the current funk / disco band project. As I'd already got a pair of 4x8 and 1x15 Ashdown mini-cabs as my "compact rig" (UK made, stupidly cheap on BC, and upgraded to 400W RMS each) I recently got an Ashdown MK500 (Mark King signature) head - mint and a mere £200 on eBay. Really fantastic amp, with the only useful built in effect I've ever found; the "harmonic emphasis" control. Another Ashdown convert here!
  10. Exquisite feel in the playing on the YT video clip, and beautiful looking Pedulla - I wish I could justify a 4th fretless!
  11. +1 one of those songs that should probably not be covered, especially by PY
  12. Had a Van Damme cable off Bas via the "Recycling" sub-forum Great guy to talk to, and he bunged it straight in the post so it was here the next day. Definately one of the good guys on BC who help make it the great place it is - thanks fella!
  13. I know Joe Cockers version is generally regarded as a classic, but I absolutely cannot listen to his pained, mannered over-singing - original every time for me with Ringo's understated and endearingly slightly off-key vocals. this is a cover I always liked, but can't think of a "worst" version -
  14. Will, you've said it above - I haven't found one to touch the Nordstrand Bigman for tone and versatility. Particularly lends itself to single coil (becomes a "big single") / parallel / series coil switching.
  15. Tried to get down to 1 fretted and 1 fretless a while back Currently at 17 basses
  16. Agreed - I own and gig 5 vintage Gibsons and just 1 vintage Fender largely for that reason. I'd meant it's strange bearing in mind current relative values for a '64 EB-2 vs a pre-CBS '64 Fender P.
  17. Agreed - these seem to be frequently strung with flats which with the naturally warm tone can make them muddy / thuddy (which some love.....), but with modern lightweight roundwounds they can be surprisingly articulate, especially the later twin pickup "D" models. Strange to think that in 1964 this would have set you back more than a Fender Precision!
  18. Looks like a good 'un to me - I have a '58 (pre-baritone) and a '69 (EB-2DC). As you say, original push-button baritone switch has been changed for a toggle switch, finish looks to be original, and it has the pickguard which often go AWOL. Usual top notch Gibson tone woods of the era; eg Brazilian rosewood board. Bit of a one trick pony - a bass/mids heavy blues-rock tone, but does that trick so well (listen to "Stand Up" album Jethro Tull), and fast neck with the short scale length. Used to be deeply unfashionable, but all old Gibsons seem to be appreciating - Andy Baxter would be selling that around the £2.5K mark. Original case would be a big plus. Edit: see http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/EB2.php for more info
