Bought a set off strings off John; smooth easy deal, great communications, and strings sent off pronto 🙂 Top fella! 👍

Fender (or any manufacturer) alternative model naming
Shaggy replied to oldslapper's topic in General Discussion
Good thinking 👍. Though as there are clear logistical problems in getting a deceased grandparent to validate a bass, it might be better to have each bass certified by a living Uncle, together with a photo reinacting him finding it in his loft. Car boot spin off possibilities here also -
Fender (or any manufacturer) alternative model naming

Announcing the new “Fender Bender” model range - For the ultimate in that road-worn look, your instrument is lovingly and authentically run over in the Fender Custom shop car park, using an original ‘57 Chevrolet once owned by Elvis himself 😎 -
Very similar indeed to mine! My first amp - in 1977 - was built by my brother (who was pretty good at that stuff, went on to be an electrical engineer at Marconi), he even built in a fuzz circuit. I made the cab from the wooden carcass of an old TV, with the 2 speakers from my Dad’s old Pye radiogram. Needless to say, the speakers completely blew the first time I hit low E at band practice 🙁 Like most at the time, we recorded ourselves on one of those crappy little cassette recorders with piano key buttons.

Another great one very economical note-wise:

How about this; a mere £20K and not even pre-CBS: https://m.facebook.com/groups/477038984505702/permalink/522515286624738/?m_entstream_source=feed_mobile&paipv=0&eav=AfbE-50Aq3x3tTbF389DO0KlmRnGxdZnYQUxX5BYioeJIWgVZriYjjTq-h-A_rfvibE only a few years ago I was struggling to sell my ‘65 P on here for £2.5K - admittedly it was boring old 3TSB......

Most of this is pretty much a groove on open E. The wonderful Mr Barry Adamson 😎

My main musical regret is that in 46 years of being in gigging bands I have never, ever been in one with a half decent name 🙁 i wont list them all, but lowest point had to be a school punk band called the Thrush-ridden Apes (usually billed as The TRA)

P45 (the band - not the document)
Shaggy replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
When I saw the thread title I assumed that P45 had to be a UB40 tribute act where the band members actually have jobs.......(honestly!) (You have to be very old to understand that one 🤔) -
Strangely enough, at a recent gig someone came over to me at halftime and asked me if my Warwick FNA (Corvette) was a Wal, probably fooled by the “W” headstock logo. 🤔 Gave me a flashback to a time in the early ‘80’s when someone in a car park asked me if my car was a Jaguar (actually a clapped out 1966 Bond Equipe GT4S, my first car, that cost me £100). Lovely bass in the OP, good score! 👍

£700 4001 (sold as I listed it here.........)

Jeez, you should have jumped on that Chris! -
Sod’s Law… Dream bass is never going to appear!
Shaggy replied to bassatnight's topic in General Discussion
I do feel your pain - though personally it’s the Blue-burst 4003 rather than the Blue boy that been on my GAS list for a long time 🤔. Hope you manage some sort of trade. Mind, I reckon you own a genuine dream bass in that Travis Bean TB2000 fretless......😉 -
Fab work Barrie 👍, and it’s going to be much more special to you than any bass acquired complete in the boringly normal way.......😉

What's your 'Hey, the bass player's here' lick?
Shaggy replied to Beedster's topic in General Discussion
Embarrassingly, usually a quick limber up noodling the intro of “Boogie oogie oogie” (A taste of honey) Or, if feeling mellow, the slow walking bassline to “Dazed and confused” (Led Zep) -
Great story and pics, but you HAVE to tell us what you traded it for at ABC Music! Mine is #23; they're fabulous and unique basses

That’s a mk1, surely.....🤔

JMB has worked for me a few times, in fact it’s very recently put me back in contact with a lead / rhythm pair of guitarists who I used to play with and lost touch with many years ago. I find the only annoying thing about the site - and it’s probably something I’m doing wrong - is that the “cookie accept” box seems to pop up on the screen every few days.....😠

I’d have thought that the New Year is generally a time when people tend to declutter / fancy a change of gear, pushing up the FS listings, though unfortunately the cost of living malarkey may well be an added incentive. 🙁 Certainly “book price” seems to have little meaning anymore; most eBay BIN prices seem to be arrived at entirely at random and then a couple of zeros added, though there’s still the occasional worthwhile listing. Slightly off topic; I’ve noticed that most of the vintage gear on eBay now seems to be sold from Japan, with the same item listed multiple times at slightly different prices, and at a prices so vastly inflated as to be almost meaningless (all instruments, not just basses). 🤔
