That's a beautiful old bass, beedster. Nice one!

Hey gang, When I put my effects (PODxt Live) through the effects send/return of my Little Mark II it seems to blend the effected signal with the Markbass's clean tone. In a lot of ways that's kickass, as I can use lovely fuzzy noises without losing too much bottom. But as my tuner is in the POD I can't mute easily to tune. Is there a way to change the effects loop blend on the head?
IMHO, volume = confirmation that bassists are ignorant pluckers. The one thing not to do is turn up. Instead, make sure your lines have some space - play the rests as much as you play the notes to create your groove. Wulf ps. ... advice on style depends of course on what style you are playing in.
Sorry, I was joking. What I meant to say was, buy an aggressive distortion and turn the fuzz up to the max. More fuzz = betterizer.

Say 'yes' to every jam invite.

I usually play the melody from Mogwai's 'Tracy' or try to remember Cure's 'Lovecats'.

And in my experience, Paul, Japan is by a long way the most materialistic country I've been to. Stuff = good.

bass compliation CD...what tracks to include?
Cantdosleepy replied to Bass_In_Yer_Face's topic in General Discussion
Do you want a CD where the bass works really well, or where the bass is very much the focus? I'd suggest some disco for music that thrives on bass but isn't necessarily note-packed. Good Times by Chic? Why not something simple and melodic like What's Goin On? Are you trying to teach someone about new artists? How about a bass-only band like DFA1979? -
Best band name: WAR BASTARD

I wouldn't say that 'purist' has the negative connotations of 'elitist'. I also don't think that fusionbassist1 was saying he's better than any of you fellas. I think he was expressing a perfectly legitimate preference, and is obviously happy that his lecturer called him a 'purist'. He's happy, we're happy, all is cool, yo. Bassist, on this site and otherwise, seem a pretty insecure bunch.

Er guys, that's not the high road. The high road is not responding, or sending a response like "Thank you for your comments - we appreciate fan feedback". I'd just let it die.

Wonderful! Thanks!

I'm afraid I'm one of those people making slap bass not popular. I agree with neilb. One man's meat is another man's poison. Try try try try try as many basses as you can. My buddy was after a passive five-string as his first bass. We went to a big bass shop and spent hours playing everything in (and slightly above!) his budget. After playing dozens and dozens of fours, fives, actives and passives, he eventually settled on a 4string active. You just don't know what'll be right for you till it's in your hands.

If you ever watch the Who now and wonder ...
I think Radiohead were OK on the first three albums. When Kid A came out i just thought it was unlistenable which is a shame as 'The Bends' is an excellent album.
Kid A is a definite departure from the indie-rock stylings of Th Bends. But is quite wonderful in its way. Do like electronic music generally? There are also some classic 'song' songs on that record - idioteque and how to disappear completely are awesome pop. I'm always surprised that more bassists don't like The National Anthem from that album - that song has the meatiest bassline of their whole career (with the possible exception of the synthy fuzz horror that is Myxomatosis - one of my faves from Hail to the Thief).
Definitely, maybe.
Sorry for derailing the thread guys. I just love those Radiohead fellas. -
I really digged Radiohead. Got Pablo Honey and The Bends and then got OK Computer and wondered why. Same with Oarsis - two great albums and then ? Got high hopes for Muse.
I'm surprised you think that - popular consensus (not that I'm necessarily endorsing that as bible) is that they really took off with OK Computer. Personally I'd say OK Computer and Kid A are my faves. Radiohead's problem is very different to Oasis' problem, in my opinion. Oasis wrote a staggeringly good debut, and have been trying to recapture it over and over with diminishing returns. Radiohead intentionally change direction with every new album - this means that some of their stuff might be to your taste and some might not. I can understand someone preferring The Bends to Amnesiac or Amnesiac to The Bends, but I can't imagine anyone ever saying they liked Be Here Now more than Definitely Maybe. Make sense? My favourite Muse is Origin of Symmetry. They're a band that changes over time, too, becoming more and more grandiose with every record. They've gone a bit too far for my tastes, but I wish them and their fans luck. -
Is there a bass line that you just couldnt do?

Badass I vs Badass II vs Badass III
Like so many other things in music, the idea that a technology 'improves' something such as tone is more accurately stated as technology 'changes' that thing. 'Improvement' is a very subjective term. Chris
Marxist! -
Bloc Party's bassist play really interesting lines. That Chris Wolfacestone from Muse knows a riff or two. I really like the simple picked lines from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's debut.
