So that's why the bass body is shaped like that!
The roll of honour at Berklee,as the teaching staff,is...putting it mildly, the best on the planet re:Electric Bass that I feel you are going to get right now.
Peter Hook and Mani are teaching at Berklee!? BIG LAFFS HERE. -
I'll give em another listen later this week I reckon...
Didn't work out with me I went to the audition, played along with them, had some fun, thought it was going okay. But they e-mailed me a week later to say they were going with someone else. The hunt continues! -
I was just kidding. I was going to try to "convert you" but what's the point? You've already said you don't like their music which is fair enough.
Sure thing. Sorry about the warmer-than-necessary reply. You caught me before my humanising morning coffee. Boo me.
Really? Have you ever listened to... Oh, nevermind.
Boo you, Mr Funk. I also wrote "I don't like the music of the chilli peppers" and "they make a sound I don't like". I don't like them. I don't like their music. I don't like listening to them. If you read my post you would have noticed that I was very careful not to be disparaging about them at all, except to say that I don't like their music. Which (if I remember correctly) is an opinion I am entitled to. Your reply was a cheap shot. Boo you.

I don't like the music of the chilli peppers. Personally I find them not rocking enough for rock, not funky enough for funk. They all seem pretty good at their instruments ( = understatement). But they make a sound I don't like. Flea seems nice, though. So I wish them well. But I never want to hear their songs.

Not my kind of music. Seems to be very good at playing yon bass, though. Give me Deborah Scroggins or give me death! http://www.youtube.com/v/A6fS5rr9eFM -

A good pace in London to get my bass shielded?
Cantdosleepy replied to Cantdosleepy's topic in Repairs and Technical
Thanks guys! Thanks for the great reply, kiwi! I'll have a butchers and see what I can do... -
how do you tell someone they suck?
Cantdosleepy replied to lowhand_mike's topic in General Discussion
It depends a lot on your responsibility towards the person. If you're at a jam night and there's some guy there who is genuinely terrible, but loud and playing in all the songs and being an obnoxious chump on top, you can just tell him that he's spoiling everyone's evening, and could he please sit a few songs out. If you're trying to let go of your nervous and generally timid keyboard player who you've known since he was a bullied primary-schooler, you have to be more gentle. The better you know someone, however, the more likely you are to know what's wrong with their playing, so the more constructive you can be... -
Hey guys. My main bass is a MIJ '75 Jazz reissue. I like it an awful lot, but it's pretty noisy around any kind of electronics (up to and including my amp and POD!). I need to keep my fingers on a string or the bridge almost constantly. It becomes noticeably worse if I turn the volume down on one of the pickups (I like to rolll a little off the neck to give it a bit more 'bite'. Is this just a shielding issue? Is it a pickup issue? Can I take it into a shop and get it properly shielded by an hexpert and make this noise go away? Does anyone have a reccomendation of somewhere in Lnodnon to get this done? Be careful about tempting me with new pickups. All this talk of Wizard here is giving me GAS! Cheers!

Is the bass cellar the smallish one? I don't like going in there because I feel in the way the whole time. You can't even turn round if you've got a rucksack on. I went to the Bass cellar with my mate when he was looking for his first bass. They let him play lots of things through a nice amp and didn't hassle him. Obviously the fella helping kept taking things off the wall that were just £50 above his maximum price, but you can't blame a fella for trying! Walked out with a lovely yamaha. Positive experience!

Gain, power and volume - a confusing ménage à trois...
Cantdosleepy replied to alexclaber's topic in Amps and Cabs
Great thread!
Now, say this amp has a maximum output of 100W. This means its maximum voltage output is 28V. Let's say that if you turn the preamp gain to max you get 10x gain. Let's say that if you turn the power amp gain to max you get 10x gain. This means that the amplifier has a maximum gain of 100x. So if you put your 1V signal in the amp will try to put 100V out - BUT IT CAN'T because the maximum voltage output is only 28V.
Could you go through this again, please? dungeddit -

covers vs originals and the value of what you do
Cantdosleepy replied to john_the_bass's topic in General Discussion
Lots of good stuff in this thread! Personally, I'm a weekend warrior and I only want to play originals for the time being. I'm very happy to play garages and basements for the next ten years. I am looking forward to a solid middle age in some kind of blues soul function band - hopefully by then I'll have the skills to play some of those awesome, awesome blues songs. For now I'm happy pootling around with three chord rock songs and bleepy synthy fun. -
Using the FX is a similar story - one excellent feature is that you can programme say a reverb, save it, then switch it off and save the patch again - then when you next use that mode you can pres the reverb button to recall the setting. By doing that, my fretless has a reverb, octaver and chorus ready to be indipendantly switched on if needed, the fretted has an env filter.
I like that too. I was using the sub-octaver (from the Crytocerous factory preset) which has a lovely mod effect that makes it go 'whum-whum-whum-whum' in super-deep style. I don't play at the beginning of the song, so I can tap-tempo tht effect to the drummer, save it in a second then lay with another patch for most of the song, but then going into the 'whum-whum' at the middle eight, perfectly in time! Your stink synth is filthy!

Can you answer this Questionnaire please?

Have you ever had portability issues with this cabinet before? No 5. Would a Neo speaker make the amplifier more appealing? Indifferent 6. Would you want casters on the amplifier for added portability? Indifferent 7. Would you want the input to be in the back? Yes 8. Would you want the Ohm rating to be 4? No 9. Would you want the power rating to be over 200 watts? Yes 10. Is a metal grille cover attractive on an amplifier? Yes -
Cool. Didn't there use to be a site called 'bodtone' as well? I had a google for it yesterday, but I think it's gone the way of the dodo. Thanks for the lionk, ped. I like the sound of 'SVTgrit.l6t'! I was playing about with it for the last band audition. At the moment my main concern is just getting a nice firm sound that cuts through the mix. It sounds so different in my bedroom through the Markbass LMII compared the the band's Peavey 115. I suppose I should try to keep the patches generic so they work in a variety of settings...

If there's a line6 POD floating about with the manual, I'd advise that one. The manual is REALLY, REALLY good. By a long way the best manual I have ever recieved with anything I've bought. It's nicely written in a friendly, chatty but knowledgable way. It tells you a lot about how it works, the thinking behind it, and gives you some history of the pedals it's trying to emulate! In fact, read it here: http://line6.com/data/l/0a0600728b7e46719c...-%20English.pdf Even if you don't get the pedal, the amp + pedal section is wonderfully fun to read!

Good advice from Jean-Luc! Nice one, captain!

Hey fellas, I've been stuck in a bit of a rut with the line6 bass pod (I've got the xtlive, floorboard version) and am casting about for inspiration. I've got an audition this evening and would like a nice chunky fuzzy sound - think a bit softer than XTRMNTR era Mani. Anyone got any tips/settings/cool bits for this? Or if anyone knows of a good resource on the net...

Remember: Women are the enemy. They only date you so they can stop you from having fun. When you live together, they own the entire house. You'd do anything for a quiet life. She's intractable and doesn't understand why you need 3 basses, which is insane, because of course you need three basses - they sound imperceptibly different from one another and one doesn't have frets so it sounds even shittier in my sh*tty prog band! Women hate to see you smile or enjoy yourselves. If it looks like you're about to buy something new, they will get knocked up so that you have to spend money on the child. Christ, some of you guys are pathetic. And I don't mean that in a "You're such doormats" sense. I mean it in a "If you view your relationship in terms of trying to placate one another or in terms of gaining permissions or sneaking around, then of course you're going to be miserable and have a sh*tty relationship". These are your partners, people, you're supposed to be on the same f------n team!
