1. Hey mate, if your remavals firm, is ever going to Ireland, i would happily take this off you. Thanks Any pics out of interest.
2. Thanks marvin, i used to live in donegal so that trip would have been easy a while ago, but yes pm on its way. The thing is included in the thomann double bass i would be intending on spending the 100 i know i will have to spend to get the bridge put on and the action adjusted, which is what i paid for my first one to have setup locally. I then found out i would have to pay another 300 to have the neck carved on a bass which didnt sound, look or feel amazing, so i couldnt see the point. But i wouldnt mind a shen. Thanks the Rev, sound hopeful. Any more ideas?
3. Yita music do bows for between 50 too 150 sort of thing, and one around 70 like i got are pretty decent, a tad heavy but fine for all round purposes.
4. So ive finally come into all the money i need to buy my first proper proper double bass, as my first turned out to be such a spectactular failure. So after finally getting a reply from thomann on some of my questions ,mainly do they have that curve in the neck thingy im buying one from them as its the easiest way. So no 1 and mmy personnal favourite after thinking. http://www.thomann.de/ie/thomann_kontrabass_22_02.htm A hybrid nice looking etc, but not too expensive and my teacher originally recommended this bass as two former students had got them and they had been perfect for what they were. But at that time i didnt have the money. No 2 http://www.thomann.de/ie/thomann_kontrabass_33_02.htm Now this is sopposedly a fully carved one, hmm sounded great at first, but then after some research i come to think, that a fully carved at this price could have a lot of flaws, could swell and shrink alot as i keep them in my basement and moving it from this room too warm opera houses and concert halls, could cause a lot of setup grief on my part. Hmm whats what and were? So the other thing that is pushing me for the hybrid is that since its cheaper, i can also buy a stand, a pickup, adjustable bridge, a case other things for my money, things that dont come with these. So can the basschat wisdom guide me too choose the right one. Is the second one better enough to get and not buy the useful extras. Also any other loud double bass for less then 1000 euro would be greatly appreciated. And if the one i end up choosing turns out to be good ill do an OTPJ style thread and show it off a bit. Thanks Sam H
5. Also i might suggest a german bow over a french one if your not bowing much or arent shown how to with a french. Ive met a couple of other young players who have been defeated by a french bow just because they havent got it. A german one in general IMO is easier to play with.
6. I wouldnt say it matters really, i think mines 3\4's but is fine for all bowing, im sure a full size one is fine aswell. While bowing you hold the bow upright with your thumb pressing against your middle finger with which you pluck the strings. You can also let it hang loosely off a a finger or two and play that way.
7. nearly 300 views and no interest. Is the price wrong or something?
8. Selling off all my two and only pedals. SOLDFirst one of the older q-trons, Comes with Original power supply. Box and manuel included. You know this one, really great funky sound can be strong full in your face and very subtle. Made for guitar i think but it has a Low Pass switch and tracks all the way down to B(the lowest i go anyway) perfectly. Has a few scratches, the usual wear. Im looking for £50 +p&p.SOLD The second is the ashdown Drive+. Great overdrive pedal. Input gain, low pass, balance, high pass and output gain are the controls along with the traditional vu meter. I dont have a power supply for this one but will put in a new battery before it goes. Looking for £30 +p&p Ill try and get my own pics up tomorrow, but this is the q-tron http://www.gear-vault.com/wp-content/uploa...onix-q-tron.jpg and the Ashdown http://www.woodstockmusicalinstruments.com...es/pedal_dp.jpg Im in Wexford Ireland, and im not sure if postage is cheaper through post or a courier, but am happy to post them anyway. I also have an ashdown mag 600R with a 2u rack for sale aswell if anyones interested. Thanks Sam
9. http://www.stringemporium.com/bernadel.htm Ive heard very good things about these, another $250 to have it sent to the Uk.
10. Ok thanks, would a german bow maybe work a bit better for this style.
11. Today at oprchestra we were handed out a new piece of music Suiter no1 form the Water music. Now this was just as it ended as it was something to get ready for next week, and i was told by the conductor that i would need to hold my bow in the boroque style, to get the right sound etc. Now after a search on google i can find nothing on how to actually hold my bow in that style. Is it more of something to do like the bows from vienna or something. Thanks Sam H
12. To build a cab, all you need is a saw, jigsaw, glue, drill, drill bits, screws. And a bit of tube. The rest can come later. A sheet of decent 3\4" ply over here costs less then 20. I reckon its worth just for the experience and knowledge youll gain, and youll have all the parts if you decide to rebuild it later.
13. Just amazing, simply amazing. If only i could pair this up with my ibanez.
14. I was born in Clonmel. Nice to see you.
15. Ah ok, Youd think the price difference might lead to alot more bass, maybe not. Ive been looking at the 33 or 22 3\4 depending on funds. A comparison would still be greaty though. Do you play in an orchestra? Its really the only reason i need a better one to an extent.
16. Oh yea if the compnay can send them they can do it fairly cheapo, The String Emporium told me they could ship me a bass for $250. I dont know. Were did you order youre double bass. ^
17. You reptty much cant ship a double bass, i was going to get a gear4music for my first double bass, but they dont ship to ireland so i thought ill have it sent to my aunty in london and ship it across from their. A whole day on the phones to couriers, 750 was the cheapest i could find to have it shipped across. Theirs not much over here im afraid.
18. Bump. Wouldnt mind a trade on a poweramp thats 400 watts each side at 4 ohms, but would still need 150 euro my way. How do you make a Euro sign???
19. Which thomann bass are we talking here. Ive been lookinf at one of their hybrid 3/4 as thomann can post to Ireland. If its comparable to one of these, which seems very good and usable in an orchestra it would seem suitable. Doing a comparason anytime soon.
20. Hi Update: Ok 250 is as low as i can go. Im selling My ashdown Mag 600R, in a 2u rack case, 1 hinge is broken but it protects the whole thing and houses it well. In pretty much perfect condition, no problems and has always worked perfectly. It has never been gigged eitheir. Ive had it for a bout 6 months now and need to free up money for my double bass. Its just been used for home use and jamming. Very loud 600 watts at 4 ohms 350 or so at 8 ohms, Nice eq and the sub harmonic generator is great. Bright and deep switch. Input and output gain. We all know what they sound like and that their very reliable and can be used in any setting. Info here http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.as...gacy&ID=140 Please note that im sellin it with a 2u rack case not the 6u pictured. Sorry about bad pics will try and get some better ones up. Im looking for 300 euro's/£270ish+P&P which is around 20 to the Uk from a quick search. Is that price around right. Also if anyones coming over on the ferry or anything anytime, im not far from rosslare and could eaily meet up. Thanks Sam H
