1. I was wondering do any classical players know any easy-ish solo pieces. Preferable something that doesn't go wildly out into the thumb position. Also i dont ind cello music but will it have to be transposed. Ive been playing suite 1 in g major by bach so far, at a slowed down pace. Just some music to really push me outside my lessons were i mainly perfect technique. Also what are some good strings for bowing. I find my ones don't grip no matter how i try as much as i would like. Maybe its the softer petz's rosin I'm using. Thank you Sam H
2. What would postage be like on the digidelay to Ireland
3. Hi I have no idea on strings but do you have a set thats good for bowing and orchestral playing. Thanks Sam H
4. Hi would you be interested in a fender jazz 24 4 string. The only problem is the little nut on the truss rod that you use to loosen or tighten the truss rod is stripped. I havent replaed it yet but it wouldnt be too much to put a new one on. Plays great.
5. What about that warwick rockbass offer on thomann if they still have it. You could get one of the new streamers for less then 200.
6. Thanks everyone Is this the replacement part i would need http://www.allparts.uk.com/online-shop/all...s-2-p-4194.html
7. 500 isnt alot to get you a Playable double bass, On the bass i got around similiar price in euro's i need a new bridge, new nut, and the fingerboard re carved which isnt cheap. Try and strectch abit more Get a teacher defiantly.
8. Im liking the sound of it yes, and ive barely made a squeaky sound while playing, but to play. When in the half and first position all the strings rattle, especially when playing jazz pizz. Also Unless in a small room the sound is small because ive been told someone cut the feet of the bridge.
9. Hi Will recently trying to straighten the neck of my Jazz bass the allen hole(is that what you call them) got stripped so the allen key turns freely in it and theirs no grip. Does anyone know how to fix/remedy this? Also why do they always use the hexagon shape, wouldn't a square be better for grip. Thanks Sam H
10. Thanks Major minor, I was talking to my teacher about the classic Pizz and he told me its more for the sound then the notes in general. Also both my parents were saddlers so i could get them to whip me up one if i show them the picture. Also a question on my actual double bass while i have the thread open, the double bass i bought while i should never need to use it in the orchestra it has faults, such as no shallow in the fingerboard, needs a new bridge and nut and looks manky. I was wondering whether it is worth spending the 300 on getting fully working to a good standard or should i sell it on and get something better now that ive come into a bit more money.
11. A wouldnt you have to have the transformer changed to compensate for 230/240v of the uk.
12. Got anything in the way of a 12" or 15" combo around 150 watts for the 150.
13. Ya i play with a french bow, but maybe a i could get a make one of those little sack things i see some players use that hang from the bridge and can hold the bow. Ive found my biggest trouble so far is speed especially when bowing to actually make the notes clear but i suppose thats practise. Thanks
14. Well ive done the first rehearsal with them last friday and it was better then expected. I was playing sitting down which i think helped with hearing the double bass as it was touching more of me. I don't like classical pizz though. Is it acceptable to put your bow down and do more of a jazz pizz while doing a piece that is either all pizz or has a good long section of it. Thanks For all the advice, so far.
15. I played a friends one for a little while in band practise the other day, when everyone wasnt playing it sounded grand, not really my thing but it could pass. But when everyone else started playing all i heard was a thud thud thud, it was much more percussive then any real notes. I wouldnt buy one myself, my jazz beat it easily. If youre not playing with a band or jamming or anything fine but otherwise, its just a muddy instrument that blends in. IMO of course.
16. Found out the pieces im learning, for 13th of feburary when i the orchestra has a concert. Dance of the tumblers Peer Gynt Suite no 1 Anitra Dance Death of Ase Hall of the mountain king Slavonic dance no 8 Selections from harispray
17. No, ive only been once and that was just to say hello and not play, The conductor has posted me out the music and so im waiting for it to arrive. She said it wasn't anything very difficult.
18. Thanks Yes i will be the only double bass player in the orchestra. Also thanks for the tip of air bowing, ill remember that one. Also is it worthwhile getting a stool?
19. Hi Ive got a place in the Wexford youth Orchestra and i was wondering if any of you had tips for playing as part of the string section. What really worries me is that my teacher told me alot of time you can hear yourself playing, and just have to really on memory, and as my intonation isn't the best.. well. Im used to playing 1st trumpet in orchestra and have always been able to hear myself fine. So any tips? thanks Sam H
20. Are spiros any good for bowing, ill take them if they are. I dont really like the strings on my DB but i have no idea what they are.
