IMo and when i did my Junior cert(the irish equivalent) and i found they were really after a well played piece that was well performed over something complicated and difficult that you might struggle with, cause theyll notice. I did two pieces on trumpet and 2 on bass, and i got more marks on the pieces that were better performed. So maybe you made a noticeable mistake in your piece or maybe the written test let you down.

Ill just say that MIK instruments i would put nearer the top end of the spectrum, very good quality and construction. I have the Jazz 24 as my main bass and love it. Its as good as any MIA ive played.

So I picked it up, its loud, and will do the job. But it defiantly needs the action lowered, and was wondering how much this generally costs, to have done. Im presuming i cant do it, because the bridge will need to be moved of done something with.

Warwick have changed the shape of their standard neck this year
fatgoogle replied to peted's topic in Bass Guitars
So when did they slim down ,2009 or earlier. Im interested around 2 years ago i tried my first Warwick a $$ and STD and hated them both couldn't handle them, and then last week or so in the bass cellar Ive got huge gas for Warwick know, so is it the neck or me that has changed. And is a jazz C shape or is it chunkier still. -
Thanks very much Gareth, is the Sound post easy to see.

On thursday ill hopefully be picking up my first double bass, Its not exactly what i was looking for but its already set up, a good price and its not far away, so im taking it hopefully. I was wondering if any one has tips on checking a double bass to make its all in good condition and doesnt have any really flaws in its construction? Any were i should look for weakness's in it, and other things in general i should look out for? I really just need something that will last until i have proper money, and im really hoping this will be that instrument. Also on another note, whats a decent reasonably priced pickup for double bass's, and i presume ill need a separate preamp as well. Any ones that bust the bank. And my last question, is for any body playing in orchestras. I've always been in orchestras playing trumpet so im hoping to join one with double bass, but i was thinking surely a cheaper double bass, with worse projection will have barely any use in orchestra cause far from being heard, it will then have no real use. In orchestras ive played, to be honest ive never really noticed the DB, so i was wondering how you all come through.

Nor me, i was out of the country, in fact im always out of your country. -
I don't think ashdown are woolly, just very compressed, my MAG is anyway from what i hear and i have to fight a bit for high end, but Ive found if you roll of 1.6khz knob it starts to ring out a lot more. I don't like their cabs either, for a bit more you can get a peavey tvx 4x10 compared to the Mag 4x10, and the peavey is a better cab IMO. But i think theyve just been given a bad name.

Ya i thought they were also brill, it came down to the choice of a Jazz 24 or the HW1 and i went with the 24, but the HW1 was my very close second choice for my first main bass. Great quality defiantly and more bass for the price i always thought then the MIA.

Yet i can see why they dont like letting people play their bass's, the first warwick i played there had a huge bang in it.

Hmm, i will stick up for the bass cellar after my first visit. I went in on Tuesday for a quick look around, I didnt play anything, as it was quite full and i felt slightly off put at everything i had heard on here about. So Wednesday, when im back in London, i pop back in and its empty, except for the two fella's who run it. I ask if i can play a warwick corvette the 5er made of ash. No probs i get plugged in and play away. Then i ask if i can compare it to a bubinga bodied one, grand it seems. Then i ask if i can play a thumb for kicks. I get plugged in again. They were really helpful and answered all my questions on the bass's, and didnt have a problem with me spending an hour in there playing some of their instruments. I got a quote of 900 or so on the first warwick i played, and if i had the money i would have defiantly bought it there. I think i got a good day or something maybe, as i was really pleased leaving there.

I havent played one but im really gasing for a shuker 5, they look amazing and i cant see a problem with them on paper. And you can have your personnal preferences put down. And there not to expensive.

So im going tyo England for a week or so on the 11th, mainly to bring back a Double bass with me, but some holidaying wouldn't go amiss. So i was wondering if theirs any good music shops in England, I really want to play some g-k and some more laklands, but you know the range over heres fairly small so i just want to see if theirs anything else i like. Ill be in Kent for a couple of days, my gran lives in Eh Wormshill so i think ill be going to the likes of canterbury and that area, are their any good shops to hit. Then ill be in London for the rest of the time, so any good ones there, Mind ill be playing and then walking away, so maybe music shops that dont mind if you dont have a penny on you. Any other places i should check out while im there, any were worth the trip. Thanks Sam

Ive seen wallis play a load of times, and ive talked with her brother a couple of times. I think shes pretty deadly, but i never really noticed the bass player for her, eh ill have to take more care next time. Nice interview though.

The helicopter ones are a bit eerry in a way, i dont know why, it just shouldn't be.

Damn cool, i think, if only it looked like that all the time.

Most ibanez necks are really thin and fast, faster than a jazz neck neck, especially the SR series.
-
Les is fairly great, but is stuff isnt that bad really, ive found if you play the drum tracks first, his playing follows the drums really closely, so if you can get the rhythm you can get the tune easy enough, its still takes a long time.

I use a SKB, dont know which one as i got it second hand, but its good, and holds up really well and taken a few knocks so far and nothings broken in it. If you only need 3u get 3 u for some reason i got a 6 u and only have 2 spaces fill and its a bit retarded on my part as its a bummer to move, especially as its mostly empty.

lakland 55-02 deluxe, maple fretboard, natural finish. Fender american standard jazz bass, olympic white, maple fretboard. Musicman stingray HS 4 string. Thats about it really on bass's, i can never decide on amps.

I tried to buy my first cab of ebay, a peavey tvx 4x0, after winning it for only 100 and being told before hand it would be posted for 40. I waited like 2 weeks, then he wanted 150 to post it to me, i got so annoyed and really worried as it was my mums credit card and not mine etc. But i got my money back. Good luck with getting your money back. PS, if you use a 3v card paypal cant charge you.
