1. I like this magazine for what its worth, its easy to read and you get a bit of knowledge from it. And i started getting when i released dave marks wrote a bit for it, and i always thought he's a great teacher(youtube). Get it to get it, or dont get it at all.
2. Quick hijack but would you take a pre gibson trace elliot over an ashdown mag???
3. I think it will be fairly good any way hartke generally is. I have a weird idea of doing the same thing as the bassist form aerosmith and getting two hartke ha3500 and running them through two 4 ohm 4x10's. pretty cool. Decent heads though.
4. So sorry to hear that, im trying to buy a double bass at the mo, and i hope it never happens to me. Is it fixable or is something new needed. How are those G4M DB.
5. Thats is just amzing, how much if its cheap enough im buying one aswell. wouldnt all those pickups kill sustain though. cool bass.
6.
The local priest? How did they take him seriously when he believes in mythical beings who live in the sky and know your thoughts and if you think bad thoughts you'll be burned in a big fire by some bloke with a pitchfork and horns on his head? If you ask me, the priest is the one who has been taking the drugs.
Ireland even though at one point being the 3rd richest country in the world i believe, is still a very old country and catholisism still reigns even though it is now dieing out, but it all gigs stopped there for 6+ months and theres one evreymonth or less now.
7. It would be a good mix yes, you would loosa some of the transparentness with the cab though.
8. Also why not second hand, you could get more for your money.
9. Im not in Enland, but over here in Ireland and were i live weve lost loads of places, One of the best was closed down cause a local priest said that to much drugs and other stuff was happening their, so going form weekly gigs you could get their once every now and again, terrible. Not much stuff atall.
10. Hartke lh 500 and if you can stretch a bit more a hydrive 4x10 should be a slappers delight well alot of slap players have taken that rig up .
11. Thats really tempting, how old is it, i looked on the lakland website and they dont make these with the flamed maple tops anymore or so it seems.
12. Ill agree with you there Pete, i do try not to, as i do reliase how much instruments cost, and am not going to bang around instruments. But i can jst hope that you dont discriminate all young people like this.
13.
Rehearsal space, own bedroom, wherever. That's where one goes to play. A shop is there to sell things. If one has the intention of trying before buying, fine. If not, don't finger the goods. Same in any shop where the items on display are sale items, not demo items. Why should a music shop be any different?
Oh sorry on that point i meant more trying instruments to see if you like it and in the future when i have the money could go back and buy it. But i also found the first bass i boughht along with a cheap little amp, they couldnt be more helpful because they knew they could sell me just about anything, and i wouldnt know if it was good bad. I got a good first bass though. Going and trying to find a new bass a couple of years couldnt be more difficult though. Ill also add that non of these shops have much to do with bass, so that could be a bad factor for me and my experiences.
14. Ashdown mag 300-600, hartke lh500,ha 3500 and peavey tour 400 are all heads know that are good and cheap easy to use and sound great. Check out ebay here and local classifields and you might be able to pick up something second hand thats what your looking for. I wouldnt go lower than 300 watts and more if you can. All those heads have matching cabs that are all great but you cab mix and match. Try find a 4x10/2x10 or 1x15 to go along with it that can handle 300 watts or so at 8 ohms. You might be able to get away with less watts if youve got a good pa to use when ever your giggng practising.
15. BUt surely there has to be an element of trying and not considering buying yet, how will we ever know if we like an instrument, if i cant go in sit down switch on an amp and play a Couple of bass's through, or course while asking to play. Im not going to buy something i dont like, why should i. So i think shops have to understand thats ts the one place were musicians young and old can actually come and play instruments. I dont like playing in music shops now or even buying in them because of the treatment ive had from you adults. Were youve been rudd, snobbish and annoying. Also other people playing their have put me off. Some music shops have refused to let me play through amps or try bass's, because of my age. Ive always asked to play, alot of time becuase ill need a cable to play, and also that they might need to plug in the amp, or there is a sign saying please ask,(im too honest for my own good). And because its good practise. I dont know any of you people on this site or what your like etc, so i dont know your experiences but you all seem a bit too hard on this subject. Does it make a difference that im 16 and have been going and playing instruments in music shops since i was 13-14.
16. Ive got a really cheap 5 string bass at home a jazz copy and i want to make it look more traditional, pickguard, control plate etc. Does anyone know were i can find or download a template for a 5 string jazz bass, so i can make it myself and make any changes needed for the differenced of my bass. Thanks Sam H EDIT: or if someone has stupid amounts of time on their hands and a 5 sting jazz bass, maybe they could trace it, sacan it and email an outline to me, im not sure if this is viable, but still. Edit Edit: Actually does anyone know were i can get a musicman stingray template a 4 or 5 one would do, or can any one trace one and do the above^. Thanks
17. So the thomann ones should be good aswell, ive been looking at them, but still am not sure what to look for. Also a bit of topic, im going to England mid august, kent london ish i think. Are there any shops over there were i could maybe play on some and get a feel for what is and isnt a good double bass.
18. I hate music shops, there seems to be alot of pressure from other people, ive never been one to show off, but when theres some twat sitting opposite you, and you can just tell he\she is trying to out do you, you want to get back. Also staff are so unhelpful and rude and barely try and sell you stuff, i wouldnt mind if they lied, but if they only tried. I hate the whole atmosphere of music shops, and it stops me wanting to buy stuff of them.
19. IS there a huge difference between the tribute and the USA series, ive been eying a tribute l-2500, looks really nice.
20. It does look great but its still only made for 115v isnt it, so thats the main problem there. but for 300 euro and a graphic eq it looks great.
