Had both Epiphone and Gibson Thunderbirds years ago. They look good but they're one trick ponies and they're an acquired taste ergonomically speaking. You're far better off with a Precision. Better sound and far more versatile.

Spector Rebop on eBay at the moment, absolute bargain (I'm not connected to the seller by the way). If it was a 5 string I'd snap it up https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153496975431

It's not too much of a big job. I think they did mine in about ten minutes or so. It was fine after they re-soldered the joints.

Try giving it a whack on top of the amp. If it comes back, then you have the classic problem of the capacitors (I think), popping out of the circuit. Could be completely wrong but back in the 80s I had a head that did that and took it to TE who explained there were some cold soldered connections which would make them pop out very slightly which would reduce volume. Not sure if it's the capacitors (long time ago now) but it was something on them lines.

I've got a Euro 5LX and a Doug Wimbish Signature Spector which is the reason I am curious about the Rebop. I've heard a lot of stories about neck-dive on them and also, not sounds as good as the LX basses. I first bought an NS2000 which really didn't do it for me at all, weighed a ton and was very anaemic sounding. Could possibly bought a duff one but that put me off Spectors for a while.

I've not played a Rebop but I'm tempted to try one out. Are they much different to the neck-thru basses both sound-wise and playability?

I saw the T20 whilst I was looking at the Foundations. Interesting looking basses. I've had Peavey USA made guitars and the workmanship really is top notch. For the money I can't think of a better bass, certainly a USA made bass. The T40s are legendary and command high prices, even if they do weigh the combined weight of every sumo wrestler in Japan.

Probably the funkiest electronics I've seen on a bass ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ovation-Magnum-II-Rare-1978-Active-Bass/273700111231?_trkparms=aid%3D888007%26algo%3DDISC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D55676%26meid%3Dfc7b49186adf4ce49c4699b1f2d564ca%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D202596272100%26itm%3D273700111231&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982

There's a few on eBay at the moment. These are great basses for the money and these are not that common in the UK. Made in the USA and really playable too. I'm not affiliated with any of the sellers. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Used-peavey-foundation-bass-guitar/333067770533?hash=item4d8c62daa5:g:oYUAAOSwBPRcTZ1Q:rk:2:pf:0 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peavey-Foundation-Bass-guitar-made-in-USA/132926157851?hash=item1ef304341b:g:yH0AAOSwLKhcQdku:rk:1:pf:0 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peavey-Foundation-Bass-guitar-94-Made-in-USA-Rare-with-Laney-amp-leads-case/202596272100?hash=item2f2badc7e4:g:JIUAAOSwVZ1cZET4:rk:3:pf:0

Ah my mistake. I might also be wrong on them being manufactured in Korea - they may have actually been manufactured in Japan (which would have made sense with the basses being manufactured in Japan. I found a page here which lists the Spector preamps through the years: http://www.sfcj.net/en/e_data_Preamps.html HOWEVER ... I found a pic of a Forum IV from around the same era on Reverb which has a pic of the control cavity which does look similar to some of the pre-amps from the Kramer era:
-
These were made in Japan in the ESP factory back in the 80s. I think these were fitted (certainly the Forum I and II basses were) with the excellent Korean made Haz-Lab pre-amp which was also applied to early Spector basses. Can you post up a pic of the electronics? If you take off the control cavity, you should be able to see what type of pre-amp is installed. If it's a Haz-Lab, these are highly desirable. Oh and the original colour is black - you can see that from the back of the body 😂😂

To be fair to him, that bridge design is just plain old stupid. I can't for the life of me imagine why they thought that would be a good design.

Someone Doesn't Know Their Spectors
WHUFC BASS replied to WHUFC BASS's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Without a doubt - £770 is way too high for that, even with the Aguilar pickups. -
Yeah, that's a bit of a bargain mate. The pickups, preamp and hipshot would be around the £200 mark alone so you've done well there. Enjoy it, who knows, one day they might even be a collectors item 😂

The Traben Neo basses are the best of the cheaper range of basses that Traben do but with the addition of the SD pickups an pre-amp you're onto a winner there. They're really nice basses and are really comfortable to play. They're not being manufactured any more as Traben was bought out by BC RIch who now only make their own version of the Chaos Core bass with the Traben bridge. I think yours is made from Royal Paulina (sp?) which is a far-eastern equivalent of alder. Do you me asking how much you paid for it?

Guitar tech is NOT happy with Rickenbacker basses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQgAv2jcmcI

I've got three Traben basses. Not the ones with the huge bridges, but the other more conservative bridges with Rockfield pickups and Aguilar pre-amps. They're really nice basses. Two of them are John Moyer Signature basses (one four-string and one five-string) and the only downside is that they're a little heavy. Everything else about them I quite like. They're my beater basses which I use for gigs where the venues are less than desirable. I've recorded with them too and they sounded pretty nice. Bought them in 2008 and still use them now.

Clearly not a Euro LX as it states on the back of the neck (although hard to see) that it's made in Korea. Obviously a Legend 4 but the for that price? No Thanks! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spector-Euro-4LX-Neck-Thru-Bass-Guitar-Faded-Blue-Glo/173778100284?hash=item2875fb603c:g:VtoAAOSwHphcWJlg:rk:4:pf:0
