Sorry mate, that sounds like a complicated arrangement to be honest. Is two stereo tracks the only option that the Zoom gives you ? If it is, then it doesn't really leave much room for manoeuvre. A better option would be a to get a pre-amp that lets you use more than two mics and record that way.

Not bad, just need to mix some things properly I'd say - Bass and drums don't sound to bad. The drums sound slightly distant to me for some reason. That's probably down to the mic'ing arrangement. the vocals are panned to the left - they should be central. I think they could do with a bit more top and less reverb. Guitar is slightly loud and should be panned both left and right. Apart from that, not too bad.
Considering that I was, and have only ever really been, a hard rock/metal musician, this may seem a little odd! But I loved his style, and despite the fact that I never really liked Level 42's music, he got me hooked on the sound of the bass. Within a couple of years, I'd played in several bands, including one which came (iirc) second in an "England Entertains" talent contest, so I must have been reasonably good.
Me too, and a lot of people overlook his fingerstyle playing too. I think the song Chinese Way is pony but for him to sing and play that bassline is nothing short of amazing.

Firewire port frazzled on Mac... anyone else experienced this?
WHUFC BASS replied to urb's topic in Recording
That's interesting, I usually only power from the Firewire port. Might just start using the power supply from now on. They are great units, and the VRM Software is a great idea.especially if you can't afford a decent set of nearfield monitors - superbly designed, compact and sound great when combined with Logic. -
Powered from the mains supply and connected directly to my MacBook Pro with a FW cable and 800/400 adaptor. It's the same as yours I think, Pro24 DSP VRM?
Yep, that's mine. Great little units I think. I was just wondering whether it was better to power from the mains rather than direct from the Firewire port. -
Hot plugging Firewire is a known issue. Although the Firewire spec is designed to be hot-pluggable, it can cause chip failure. My Focusrite Saffire I/O's manual was keen to point this out. http://www.focusrite.com/answerbase/en/article.php?id=1063
Do you power your Saffire from bus power or from power supply ? -
This is NOT a "what's the best bass for metal" question!
WHUFC BASS replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
I auditioned for a metal band back in the 80s called "Chariot" who were quite popular at the time. I was playing a white with t/shell scratchplate Fender 62 re-issue at the time. Didn't get the job, but I've since found out it wasn't because I was playing a white bass - it was because I was f***ing pony at playing. And the moral of the story is boys and girls - if you're good, you'll get the job whether you're playing a 5-string Traben or a branch off a tree with 4 or 5 elastic bands. -
I can feel myself falling towards a precision
WHUFC BASS replied to jakenewmanbass's topic in General Discussion
Doesn't have to be a genuine Fender either - the Squier VMs or CVs, SX and some of the early Jap lawsuit stuff in many cases is just as good as anything Fender have done. Also, there's a considerable number of after-market parts out there too. I had one with a Kent-Armstrong Vintage Hot Ceramic pickup and it was the nuts. -
I actually told him that a 78 precision was worth at least £1,000 (considering its condition) and it annoyed me the way they tried to fob him off with offering him a grand for it. To be fair, it was in pretty rough nick but from what I've seen on Ebay he would have got around a grand for it, even without the Ramones connection.
-
Ha ha.. that's Tel, the singer from my band. I've played that Precision and its horrible, really high action and just not set up at all. He sold it the other day at Sothebys. What he didn't tell them was the amount of people he had to kick and punch who were trying to get it off him. In his day, he was a right handful and a bit of a nutter if the truth be told.
-
I think I remember reading somwhere that it was a 1969 Precision but can't remember where I saw that. Best Budgie song by a mile: Unfortunate name "Burke" though...

1. Traben John Moyer - I have the 5 string version of this which is probably the best metal / punk / hardcore bass I have ever used and saw a 4-string version going cheap. I mean really cheap - £150. It's immaculate and came with straplocks and tool kit too. Sounds just like the 5-string - absoloutly huge output. The Rockfield pre-amp is easily the loudest preamp I have ever heard. Really pleased with it. 2. Franken-Jazz. This was another bargain on Ebay £175. Came with USA pickups and control plate, dodgy Fender decal, Squier body and after-market neck. One of the tuners was broken but it didn't matter as I had an old black set kicking around which I put on. Also stuck a black string retainer on there too. Although it sounded superb when I got it, I added a black Gotoh 201 bridge and a Varitone unit to it with S1 switching on it which gives it a real biting growl which really cuts through two heavily distorted chugging guitars. Not bad for the grand total of £325 (not including the Varitone unit). There's bargains to be had out there if you keep your eyes open !

Big Fat 70's style cop drama tune - rough demo 1st take
WHUFC BASS replied to krispn's topic in Recording
Not bad - drums too high up in the mix I reckon. Bass is a bit muffled. Horns should be central in the mix - they seem to be panned a bit to the left. Apart from that, not bad! -
