1. Focusrite Saffire Pro 26 ? Surely you mean the Pro 24 ?
2.
The HM80s are getting slightly better reviews due to the better bass response. Decisions decisions
That's what I use - there are two types, the HS80 and the HS80m. The HS80m is a smaller version. They're great monitors, fantastic, flat sound which in conjunction with a decent set of headphones you can get a great mix. I use the Focusrite 24 DSP with the Virtual Room Monitoring software which will give you a number of scenarios through headphones (professional studio, Hi-Fi, flat screen TV and a number of various monitors.) I use this in conjunction with the HS80s and have achieved some great results.
3. Couple here may be worth looking at: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pair-Yamaha-HS-50M-p...=item19c4a5427d http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-HS50M-Main-St...=item45f9d0e546
4. Yep, looks like Traben are no more. Shame really I love their basses. Wouldn't really play anything else. Personally I think the Havoc is a great sounding and great looking bass. They really got things right with their Chaos range of basses (not sure about all the others) and for Metal / Punk / Hardcore they knock most other basses into a cocked hat.
5.
Found another one! Produced by Paul Gray of The Damned
Great track, reminds me of early Saxon (as does the other track) which I suppose was contemporary at the time.
6.
alesis monitor 1 mkii's
Seen a lot of good and bad reviews on these, looks like you are either a big fan or a big hater. Also, I've found that the Behringer Truth monitors are generally hated by most.
7. This is the only pic I can find of an actual model in the flesh...
8. I've only ever owned three Yamahas, an RBX200 which I bought new when they came out, a BB1100s and a TRB5. All were well built quality basses. Build quality was superb, as is the case with any guitar made in Japan. The trouble was, there basses out there that just certain things better. I sold my TRB5 to get a Traben Chaos Core which does the Hardcore / Punk / Metal thing better than any other bass I've ever played. The TRB5 just didn't do it for these genres for me.
9. I've got a set of Yamaha HS-80s which I bought second-hand off here. Great active monitors and I use them all the time, in fact I've mixed and mastered my bands latest album on them in conjunction with using a set of Beyerdynamic DT-880 headphones. So a big thumbs up from me for the Yamahas. I've also just splashed out on a Focusrite Saffire Pro24 DSP which is an double pre-amp with several monitoring options built in for mixing and mastering with headphones.
10.
You're right. Logic Studio comes with all of the Jam Packs built in. I only really use the drum loops myself; I don't have the means (or the skills) to record live drums!
Me too, I'd love to have a go at recording live drums but I just don't have the room - or the understanding neighbours. I get away with my 5150 cranked up pretty loud, but I think if I had a drum kit going full pelt in the house, not only would the cats have heart attacks but the neighbours wouldn't be too impressed.
11. Depends, if its just drums you want, then I'd recoomend Beta Monkey drum loops. Lots more variation, cheaper and they're recorded by a real drummer in the studio. If you're going for all the keyboard, guitar and bass loops too, then I'd see if you can get a copy second-hand.
12. Got the Rhythm Section Jam Pack and its pretty good. Sound quality is excellent. I only really use the drum loops but there's many guitar and bass loops in there. I think they're also compatible with Logic if I remember rightly. The only trouble is I've found that if you find a particular set of drum loops that sound good, there just isn't enough variation. Minor gripe if your only using them for one or two songs. There's also plenty of midi loops which, if you have a decent sample programme you can really get some good variation going.
13. Is that the price in the bottom right hand corner of the tag ?
14. Kent Armstrong Vintage Hot pickups take some beating. Probably the punchiest P-bass pickups I've ever used.
15. 1. Traben Chaos Core 5 2. Traben Chaos Core 5 3. Traben Chaos Core 5 4. Traben Chaos Core 5 5. Traben Chaos Core 5
16.
Do they still do those curries in little boxes? They were ace, I loved 'em!
The only curries before or since to have raisins in.
17. I can confirm this is a lovely bass with one of the best 5-String necks I have ever played. if I wasn't so skint I'd have this back in a flash. Someone's gonna get a bargain here.
18. I've only been hearing good things about Focusrite so I'll definitley be investing in either a PRO24 DSP or the PRO40. Not sure what the software is like to use, but it all seems pretty comprehensive from what I've seen on YouTube.
19.
Love it. Captures the fire of the bands of the time, but with a more up to date feel. . Just great punk power, I'd love to hear it through a hi-fi, will figure how to do that eventually.
Thanks for the kind words mate! Much appreciated.
Hopefully attached is our effort for promoters, 1 track of 5 track CD (warning, old fart rockers alert). The mix sounds great through my old Technics hi-fi, yet absolutely crap through my laptop. Ideas gratefully received.
Nice overall sound, but if you want some constructive criticism: 1. I found in places that the tempo fluctuated. Maybe an idea to get the drummer to play with a click-track. 2. Guitar was a touch quite - both rhythm and lead 3. Bass cut through very nicely, just needs to be less busy in places and it will improve the song no end. 4. Vocals were on the whole very good, just could do with coming up in the mix slightly. Aside from that, not a bad effort at all... reminded me of Bad Company in parts.
20. I quite like that, reminds me of early Deep Purple in places. Quite a blanced mix although for some reason the crash cymbal sounds over compressed. Good mix apart from that. Our effort from our first album...
21. Thanks for the additional comments. The drums were actually put down on one track as they are pre-recorded live drum loops. I would love to separate and give separate eq'ing to the bass drum, snare etc. but this is how they came. I'm really hating the guitar sound as much as everyone else and will definitely discourage the guitar player from using his multi-fx on future recordings. He's a really good guitar player - exceptionally good rhythm player too so its a shame he isn't doing himself justice with a guitar sound like that.
