1. Yep great idea. Gear recommendations would be good too !
2. Oh yes, but could get away with a 4 string tuned B-E-A-D.
3. My nephew had a Westfield Stingray copy as a first bass. Horrible thing it was, sound was garbage and the action was like a bow and arrow. If it were me, I'd get a second-hand Vintage by JHS bass - stingray copy or Jazz. they're great instruments.
4. It wasn't directed by this fella was it ?
5. Not at all, I use Logic and on the rare occasion Garageband. Never used Reason simply because of how good Logic is.
6. That's a big improvement. The vocals could do with coming down a bit though, they just seem to drown it out a bit. Also, not criticising your singing, but I'd give it a bit more aggression in there. Imagine some dirty bastard is trying to chat your missus up whilst his pet elephant is standing on your foot.
7.
If you want all in one interfaces the M-audio stuff is also pretty good in my experience.
I'm looking for a Firewire interface at the moment and have been checking out the M-Audio stuff. Some of the reviewws say that it has extremely unstable drivers for both MAC and PC (this is the M-Audio 410 and other models). Also, their customer service by all accounts is a joke. The best ones so far that I've read reviews of seem to be made by either Focusrite or MOTU.
8. Guitar sound needs to be bigger - a bit more high end on the rythmn parts and higher in the mix certainly. bass could do with coming down a bit too with a bit more mid-range on it. Drums don't sound too bad though.
9. A Traben or a Warwick Rockbass Corvette. Two great basses for not a lot of money.
10. Love it mate. Brilliant song. Great lyrics too...
11. Did you use monitors to listen to your final mix or headphones ? I've noticed that some headphones make mixes sound good especially though iTunes but on other mediums it sounds bad. Also, iTunes seems to even out some bad mixes where other players like VLC are much more organic.
12. Bought a US Jazz bass off me a while back. No problems at all with the transaction.. nice one.
13.

Ha ha... check out the gig bag made from your old man's pyjamas
14.
I would have thought drying in the oven would solve any rust issues, but I haven't tried it yet, tbh.
I used to use a hair-dryer on mine.
15.
Thats a good idea, hope he has a sensible reserve on it. Let us all know when its up for auction. Can you ask him if he went to the Electric Ballrom gig i mentioned and if he remembers it? (The Ramones / The Boys / Ten Pole Tudor)
As mentioned, the gig where he got the actual bass was The Roundhouse in Camden. I do know that he went to the Electric Ballroom a fair bit in the late 70s - early 80s. Here was there when the notorious riot took place at The Cockney Rejects gig.
16. Spoke to the singer today. He's taking it down to Sotheby's who have said that it should sell for quite a sum. As mentioned, there's a fair bit of history involved with that bass.
17. That's the same bass as far as I know. Its funny you should say this, the gig that our singer got the bass was at the Roundhouse in Camden as far as I can remember - just up the road from the Electric Ballroom. He had to really fight for the bass, throwing punches all over the place as everyone was grabbing it. All the strings were ripped off it in the process. He had another set-to on the way out when someone challenged him for the bass. He was quite handy in his younger days which was just as well otherwise he wouldn't have got this out of the building.
18.
Be interesting to see the program it will be featured in!
Apparently Konnie Huq is presenting it. Not sure what channel its on but its one of the Sky channels from what he told me.
19.
"As a bass player, you can't play when the drummer hits the snare, you have to stop." ???
Hmmm....I wonder if Lemmy knows this ?
20. Here's some footage of it being played. He's actually selling the bass and its going to be on telly on some programme about antiques or something. They offered him £3,000 for it and he told them to shove it.
21. The singer in my band is an old git and went to see the Ramones back in the day. Anyway, at the concert, Dee Dee handed the bass down into the audience and our singer had to fight tooth and nail to get it but got it in the end. Anyway, he used to be in a band years ago and their bass player used to use it. He's still got it and brought it round the other day. Its a 78 Precision in white (although is discoloured now) with a red scratchplate. Originally it had a silicone sealing around the plate and pickups to stop moisture getting in (that was Dee Dee's mod) but the jack socket end was cracked so he replaced it with an identical one, made by the same people who supplied Dee Dee's one. It's a pig to play with high action and doesn't sound that great to be honest. Typical precision sound but the output isn't all that great. Everything's original apart from one tuner and the strap pins. If you look here, you can see it in action. a few days later, this bass was safely sitting in my mates house. Here's some pics of it.
22.
The necks on these 80s Jackson necks are fantastic, I regret selling mine. They're worth every bit of £500, I think £200's criminal.
You ain't wrong ! I had a Charvel Model 3 with a Kahler Trem and the neck was great, second only to the neck on my US Peavey Wolfgang.
