I've got 4 basses at the moment, two Trabens a Spector and this Yamaha. This gets the least amount of use since I got the Trabens. As we're doing some recordings in May we need a decent 4 string so I'm offering this Yamaha in part ex (cash either way) for a decent 4 string. Not interested in Fenders, I'm mainly after a Musicman Sub, a Traben Chaos 4-string, a decent Spector or a G&L. The Yamaha is in players condition. I bought this off a session musician who'd made some adjustments to it. Its got some issues which I'll outline here: 1) Some arse of a luthier drilled a hole for a new jack plug in the wrong place so there's a hole (see photos). 2) There's a few screw holes in the body where a thumb rest was fitted. 3) There's what looks like some glue marks on the pickups 4) There's a number of wear marks on the body - around the control knobs and round the heel of the body. 5) There's a small pick-guard that was attached by the previous owner as it helped with slapping according to him. I don't really use it for slap so couldn't tell you if it does or not! Its in player's condition but it does have the added bonus of having Nordstrand pickups and an Audere pre-amp which sounds the nuts. It plays superbly and has a fairly new set of DR Hi-Beams on it. Its also got Schaller Straplocks too. I've used it a few times at gigs, through an Ampeg SVT 5 and 8x10 and through a old H&H rig and it sounded equally as good through both. I'm really looking for trades on this but would be willing to sell for £[s]375[/s] ono £325. Also comes with Yamaha hard case.

I'd say that Trace Elliot amp, either valve or SS/vavle hybrid are amps you can just plug into and get a decent sound. I really like the sound of Trace Amps - especailly the older versions (pre-Gibson). I've played through an SVT 5 and Ampeg 8x10 and yes, the sound was huge - but this was an outdoor gig in front of 2000 people. I wouldn't want to be lugging that rig around for the average pub / club gig. Its just complete overkill.

Artists are typcial Gibson basses. Buck the trend when it comes to design, quirky, subjective and distinct sound and above all cost a lot. I'm not a fan, simply because of the weight and what you get for that added weight burden but some people love them. I liken Gibson basses to going out with a nymphomaniac who is also a schizophrenic. There's good points but also a hell of a lot of bad points.

Would you play a style thats not to your taste ?
WHUFC BASS replied to thunderbird13's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't. I did it for a few years and the money was nice but ultimately it made me give up for 10 years because I was sick of just playing stuff I didn't really like. Now I'm playing stuff that I write, like listening to and love playing I coudln't be happier. Quick rule of thumb, if you don't like listening to the music, chances are you won't enjoy playing it. -
Not me playing but went to see Cocksparrer at the Forum in London - brilliant night.

Avoid it like the plague. Getting stuff into Russia via mail is prone to be intercepted, opened up and stolen. I've had this on authority from numerous Russians I used to deal with when collecting militairia.

First gig with a new drummer and minus one of our guitarists (who has left the band). Last night down at the Bridge House in Canning Town and it sounded probably the best we've ever sounded.

What are you listening to right now?
WHUFC BASS replied to Sarah5string's topic in General Discussion
The Eagles - Early Bird. If you haven't heard it, give it a listen - why this wasn't one of their more well known hits I will never know. -

After nearly a year my 'ear' is still struggling
WHUFC BASS replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Climax Blues band are somethng else. I used to go see them everywhere they played in the early 90s in London. Always really tight and always had a sh*t hot bass player (they used a few as far as I know including a black bloke who was f***ing amazing) in the line-up (sh*t hot musicians to a man as it goes). I've got most of their stuff and still listen to it now. Brilliant band. essexbasscat, I think I may have even seen your band - (what were they called?), as the Standard was just down the road from me in the 90s and I think I saw the CBB every time they played there up during that time. -
At the moment no but I can hopefully get some soon. The reviews for it are great: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...-1+Stealth/10/1 They don't make them any more and it really is a great guitar... bags of sustain. I know if I pick it up and play it now I won't want to sell it !
I can't get on with the neck size on a 5...dropping the e would be the answer but then I would have to relearn 27 songs...
Get a Spector or a Warwick Rockbass, two of the most comfortale necks on a 5 string bass if you're used to 4 strings.
I've reached the point in my band where I've stopped talking about gear because it became a running joke where I'd turn up to practice with a new head almost every other week. They think I'm the ultimate gear slut, but I know I'm not as bad as some on here
See that... thats me that is...
