Just Got a Traben John Moyer Signature Bass
WHUFC BASS replied to WHUFC BASS's topic in Bass Guitars
Blimey!! Cool overdriven sound. Don't think you'll be getting any jazz gigs in the near future
Cheers mate, there's a Sansamp VT on the end of that with a little bit of grit added to the mix. -
Just got delivery of a Traben John Moyer 5-string Signature bass with Chaos bridge, Rockfield pickups and pre-amp. Its a really nice bass with a neck similar to my Yamaha TRB5 (very wide and slim). Reasonably light and sound wise its quite versitile. Reminds me a lot of a Stingray. Anyway, judge for yourself by having a listen to the sound clip below...

I always fit straplocks to my basses and guitars. I just wouldn't trust any other way of support for a guitar. Schaller are probably the most commonly used out there but Warwick, Dunlop and Boston make good straplocks.

To get that tone you have to pray to the Lord!! "Lord we thank you for skateboards" LOL!!

Played in Sweden at an outdoor festival to around 1000 people. Great atmosphere, great sound, good weather, free beer, food and accomodation. Life don't get better than that !
Bring back Sounds (w/o Bushell, the beady-eyed, no-neck arm-twitcher)
Bushell's page was about the best thing about that paper in the early 1980s.

I'm probably going to piss everyone off here but I hate that song - mainly for the crap lyrics and the bassline. I think it just doesn't fit well with the drums or the song. Just my opinion. -
Westone bass guitars - what do people think of them?
WHUFC BASS replied to CathalOC's topic in Bass Guitars
That's interesting - that's an ash bodied one. The maple versions were completely back. Maybe my memory isn't what I thought is was.
Could have something to do with the fact I was a complete wimp when I was 13 -
I was going to put a thread on about Westones. My drummer took the p@*s when I said that was my first bass. But it would appear they are generally well regarded.
Loads of people in the 80s used Westones - they were the cheaper version of the Aria Pro range and were great basses. The Matsumoko factory was churning out some great stuff then and Westones - especially the Thunder series were great basses. The QC and build on them was amazing when you compare it with stuff nowadays. There was a lot of snobbery back then in the bass world - if it wasn't a Fender or Musicman you tended to get looked down on, especially as Westones were available in the Freemans catalogue (no jokes about the lingerie section please... ). Seeing as most teenagers were skint back then, stuff like Aria and Westone were a god-send. One thing I do remember is that their active pre-amps used to eat batteries at a rate of knots. -
Kent Armstong are a really good value for money pickup - especially their Vintage Hot P-bass pickup. I put one is a Squier and it sound the dogs knackers. Only cost about £25.
Just curious - did you have a painted or natural one? I've only ever tried two Thunders (both natural) and I don't remember thinking they were heavy, though it was a long time ago. The painted ones had maple bodies though.
Yep it was a black and natural coloured one. Early 1983 version, brass hardware probably didn't help the weight !! Identical to this one... I started out on a Thunder IA. Brilliant beginner basses - weigh a ton though! -
So what should we be spending our money on instead?
this is another great song... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0WPC-N3UYE...feature=related Some topical social commentary in the lyrics too. Apparently the BBC tried to ban the video because "it was in poor taste".
Same with the Explorer - strange to think that those iconic "metal" guitars date from the era of Chuck Berry & Elvis! J.
Apparently it was to do with all the space travel and rockets that was going at the time. Gibson reasoned that they should make guitars in outlandish shapes to resemble rockets and stuff like that. There's also a reverse Flying V guitar... and a reverse Explorer...
'I appreciate your honesty, openess and candour. You have helped me out of a tricky situation as i found i was starting to develop an emotional attachment to one of the band. I wont say who to spare his blushes but i think he was starting to return my affections. I kept catching his eye while we were playing and im sure the little winks and knowing smiles werent just him saying 'nice playing Butler'. My 'gaydar' was pinging full on. With time it could have grown into something stronger im sure but im not ready for that yet until ive got the latest outbreak under control. Im not sure its contagious but when i gave you the money for the last rehearsal and bought that round theres a small chance i could have passed it on' ?
Ha ha.... if they reply and ask who it was say "Give us a kiss and I'll tell you" LOL!
My personal favourite Great band! I am almost positive that if I had have been born in 1949, I would enjoy going to gigs so much more than I do now!
One of my favourite Kinks tracks along with "Victoria". I think they were a fantastic band, along with the Who and The Small Faces. London music at its finest.
