1.
Got a question if anybody feels able to answer. I've bought a couple of basses from sellers in the US, and there's a chance that I'll be able to go across to pick them up early/mid August. Anything I should know about bringing them into the UK by air? Any helpful hints would be much appreciated.
Go over with some empty cases!
 2.
Fantastic sales pitch there .
I'd call it honest...
 3.
Nothing makes me cringe more than hearing someone play slap.
Me too...
 4.
Forgot this one:
f***in' 'ell.
 5. Forget them both, go for an Orville or a Greco Thunderbird. I used to own an Orville Thunderbird (which was really Gibson Japan) and it was great. Identical to a Gibson without the QC issues or the price tag (I got mine for £360). It had all chrome hardware and Gibson pickups. It had a jazz type neck but with the manditory neck-dive. Sold it for a hell of a lot more than I bought it for too. I have some pics of it somewhere...
 6. Great musicians but musically.... f*** me what a yawnathon.... (imo of course).
 7. Lately I've seen a lot of after-market bass bridge on Ebay and I can't help but think they look a lot like the bridges used on a lot of medium to high end basses that are made in Korea and the Far-East. For example I have seen the Traben bridges on Ebay being sold for about 15 quid or thereabouts. Same goes for some Ibanez bridges too. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking them for using these parts but was just wondering if these come from the same OEM manufacturers that the big companies use. I know they are many different makes made in the one factory so I am assuming this to be the case. Any thoughts?
 8. These are the really early ones from 1983 with the brass knobs and lettering logo (no eagle logo). I had one in black and used it for years. It was my first real bass. I loved it and it served me really well. I remember mine weighing a fair bit but the sound was great. Construction as you would expect coming from the Matsumoko factory was top drawer. You probably won't get a better quality bass for this price. Have a free bump.
 9. I think Ash and Maple give a great combination of sounds. I had an mahogany / walnut Gibson Thunderbird and liked the big bottom-end on it, but there were no real highs which at times had problems cutting through the mix. I've found that Ash (and Alder to an extent) for me are the perfect woods for bass guitar bodies.

 11. Nice one Jon, the amp is great. Cheers for a smooth sale.
 12.
In that case it's a 1983 model. Mike
Ahhh.. the year I started playing bass. I used to own an SB900. Aria has some fantastic basses in their range.
 13. Yes, Paralell. Apologies, I should have made that clear.
 14. Quick rule of thumb guide for all you people interested in Ohms... This guide assumes that the speakers are wired in parallel. Two 16 ohm speakers = 8 ohms Two 8 ohm speakers = 4 ohms Three 8 ohm speakers = 2.66 ohms ( use 2 OHM setting ) Four 8 ohm speakers = 2 ohms ( use 2 OHM setting) Two 4 ohm speakers = 2 ohms ( use 2 OHM setting ) One 4 & one 8 ohm speaker = 2.66 ohms ( use 2 OHM setting ) One 5.33 & one 8 ohm speaker = 3.2 ohms ( use 2 OHM setting ) One 2.66 & one 8 ohm speaker = 2 ohms ( use 2 OHM setting ) Two 2 ohms speakers = 1 ohm Three 4 ohms speakers = 1.33 ohms Two 4 & one 8ohm speakers = 1.6 ohms

 16.
Try 'Ladies & Gentlemen' by Saliva. Youtube it - have fun! - Can't play the verse on a 4 - not low enough gicut58
I own a Custom Shop Washburn Idol which belonged to the guitar player from Saliva. Its by far the best guitar I've ever played. f*** knows why he got rid of it.
 17.
Once In A Lifetime - Talking Heads!
A deceptively tricky bassline when learning it. Simple and works great though.
 18.
Has your band ever played a song that offended people or you were asked not to play it again not because you didnt play it right, i meeen just the song itself
How long have you got? Some of the people who don't approve frequent this forum
 19. Never heard of to be honest mate. Not a lot out there on the web either about them. Good luck with the sale.
 20. What was the name of the punk band who owned it previously?
 21.
Orange are the new face of metal mark my words here and now!
Hmmm. I'd wouldn't go that far. I still reckon the Peavey 5150 is probably the greatest metal guitar amp out there. I've tried both Orange and own a 5150 and much prefer the 5150. I agree with you on the point about being better than Marshall - I just don't like any of their old or new stuff at all and I've own JCMs, DSLs, played through JCM800s and TSL heads. All of them just leave me cold.
 22. Its probably why the far-eastern economies are so strong and have been strong for decades. Its simple economics. If you can manufacture the stuff cheaper by using cheap(er) labour then the profits maximise and you can sell your products at a reduced rate. We've all benefitted from it with our Korean / Indonesian / Chinese instruments that we own. A lot are made under license from the bigger companies to maximise their market. The simple answer is to stop buying these instruments and only buy US / British / European instruments but that would mean more outlay. How many on here are willing to do that?
 23.
Yeah I enjoyed that bit too. There's another thread knocking around at the minute, about whether the guys pushing the boundaries of bass are wasting their time if normal bass players can't incorporate that stuff into their playing in the real world. Maybe it takes an attitude like Ox to stand up say to a band "F'off this is how I'm going to play the bass"... Although aside from Daltrey not being able to hear himself, The Who seemed to understand that a loud, prominent, dynamic bass line was part of their sound.
Wise words indeed. Was very interesting how Keith Moon's death affected Entwistle's playing with Townsend saying that he went back to playing like a "normal" bass player (like Pino Pallidino).
 24. JE Came cout with the classic about Roget Daltrey telling him to turn down constantly. So he said he used to turn down and after a couple of songs turn it back to the original volume and Daltrey never noticed the difference. Does that sound familiar ? I laughed at the bit where he said he'd had enough and threw down his bass ($3,000 Alembic Explorer) and said "You play the f***ing thing then!" and walked off stage. LOL!
