1. Watched an Ox's Tale last night. Very good indeed. One thing that was glaring though was the abscence of any input from Roger Daltrey. Wonder what that was all about?
2. Try Audere pre-amps. I've got one in my Yamaha (which also has Nordstrand pickups) and it souinds killer.
3.
Have watched this...Must recommend it to anyone. He was a bassist pushing the boundries in a time when there was no one doing that. He had no inspiration of bassists past as they didn't do much interesting and had to go it alone. I feed of inspiration...I dunno how he managed it alone!
I'm hearing the word "genius" bandied about in certain threads today.. the above really is genius. He was a fantastic bass player and an inspiration to many (including myself). I've Sky-plussed this so I'll watch this over the weekend. Was the documentary about the Who any good that was on afterwards?
4. Them lovely [s]bastards[/s] people at RyanAir now want £60 to take a guitar on board.
5. Oh mate, if only this was fretted, I'd have had this in a flash. I've got one already and was after another one (in black). Great basses indeed and this is a bargain.
6.
They take me with the Roscoe or they get someone else!
Now you're learning. If you have confidence in your ability and sound then I wouldn't let anyone (especially a non-bass player) tell me what bass I should and shouldn't be using. You can bet your bottom dollar that they'll be dictating how you play, what way you play it until you become just bass playing puppet. I've had first hand experience of this in the past. Never again!
7.
I have one on a jap Jazz A good service with nice people who answered all my questions. Will not improve the sound like a active but will give more variations
Am I right in thinking that there is no soldering involved with this... just place the pickup wire in the pink housing and tighten the screws?
8. Bireli Lagrene is one seriously talented musician.
9. I like 'em both. I've got a 5-String Warwick Rockbass which has really narrow string spacing and a Yamaha TRB which has really wide string spacing. Both great to play. For me, the neck shape is more important.
10. I don't think I could go back to playing a 4-string now. 5 just seems "right" for me now. Especially for use with downtuned guitars.
11. They are great basses. I love my TRB5 - which is funny because I hated it when I first got it.
12.
So if you ever get one make sure you dont blow the tranny!
Wise words indeed for any of you planning a trip to Amsterdam or the Reeperbahn area of Hamburg!
13.
We should all give up and become Guitards instead and not worry about it.
What happens if you play guitar AND bass though ?
14.
not a fan of his but gotta admit......... that is a quality pair of wristbands/sweatbands
You're dead right there mate! A few of my favourite bass players...
15.
Thanks Bass Bod for the information about the KA's that WD music sells.. Can anyone confirm they're Korean? I'm thinking I made the right choice with the Bill Lawrence EB60 though, so I can take the KA's off my to buy list!!! Bass players on a budget are a very thorough lot eh?
Alright Dal, how goes it mate. Thought I might see you lurking on here. The Kent Armstrongs are great pickups mate, and if you're a precision fan then their vintage hot pickups are mustard. The bass player in the Diehards uses my old Frankenbass which has got these pickups in and for punk / metal / hardcore stuff they really are the dogs nuts - especially for the price.
16. I'm not a fan of Korn at all or of Fieldy's sound to be honest but this really is a playable bass. I'm going to get a pre-amp for mine at some point and improve the sound.
17.
If for whatever reason you want to move this bass on, please let me know. I'm still on a hunt for a 5 stirng fretted that I like and I loved my trb6.
Hmmm.... I love this bass, espcially for playing live with. Its got a huge sound so I don't think I'll be shifting it for the foreseeable future. If for some reason I do, I'll let you know. oh and have a free bump too...
18. I've got a K5 and playability wise its fantastic. The pre-amp is garbage in my opinion and needs swapping out to give it a bit more oomph! but apart from that they're great. If its metal and its Ibanez then you should check out the SRX range They're designed for metal and are relatively cheap.
19. I've got exactly the same bass and agree with you about the stock pre-amp. It definitely needs changing. I bought mine for the same price advertised here so with the new pre-amp this sounds like a bargain. Its a great bass to play, really comfortable neck too.
20. I'll definately have this if its still available. Whereabouts in North London are you?
21.
drink some tea and take it away if you like it.
I only bought it for the chance of a free cup of tea. Imagine my disapointment when I didn't get one Nice to meet you mate, the rig sounds great. The neighbours are going to hate me very soon!
22. This should do the job nicely... This is an actual rig used by the Grateful Dead. Low calorie it aint....
23. Thanks for the advice chaps. I'm pretty much sold on getting one of these form what I've read about them. The only negatives I've seen from people is regarding the tone pump pre-amp which sounds like my kind of pre-amp. I pretty much have my eq up all the way on my Rockbass and it sounds absoloutley killer for recording.
Molan, you're right mate, North-East London. I'd love to try it out mate, but I know that if I did, I'd proably sell a kidney to get a NS5XL if I liked it. They sure look the dog's knackers. I'm already planning a bank job to get meself one of these ha ha...
24. I've been hearing a lot about Spector basses lately and wondered just how good / bad they are. I've never played one, but like the look of them, expecially the 5-string models. Anyone got one? What's the string spacing like, it looks quite close at the bridge which I like in a 5-string. What the low-end models and which ones would any of you recommend? Cheers in advance.
