Can he groove though?

I just scored a set of DR Hi-Beams (5 string set) for £21 from the U.S. inc postage.... In the recent words of The Archbishop of Canterbury... "f***in' ave it!".

depends what style of music, 4 or 5 string, what sort of sound you going for etc. etc.

I use it all the time. It does keep rosewood fingerboards in good nick. Especially the light coloured ones which always look dried out to me. By the way, you wouldn't believe the amount of gunk and crap that can build up on fretboards over time.

Ah ha ha... I had two of these in the mid 1980s. A black one and a pink one... I kid you not with that terrible fake leather gig bag which seemed to be in vogue in Japan in the 80s. I got the pair for a bargain price. They are nice playable basses but the sound is slightly thin due to lack of wood on the body. £100 is a good price for it though, as I said, they are very playable basses. The necks remind me of Warwick necks - a nice comfortable "C" shape. Be aware though, these aren't double ball end stringed basses. You use a normal string, thread it through a hole at the end of the fingerboard, pull it tight with a pliers, tighten the grub nut and tune from the other end. Quite fiddley if I remember rightly.

I've got a Russian Blue cat and it used to sit on my Peavey 5150 guitar amp. That was until it was sick all over it one day. Dunno if it was my playing or what but that was his days on my amp at an end!

For me, the perfect beginners bass is one that is cheap, but will outlast that "beginners" phase. That for me has to be a Warwick Rockbass Corvette. Slightly (not a lot second-hand) dear than a cheap beginners bass but for the money its great.

Mate, what neepheid said about Warwick Rockbasses is very true. I've got a 5 String Corvette which is an early one made form quality components which I may be selling in the very near future (still not entirely sure as its such a great bass) but I bought it for £180 and its mustard. I had a genune Warwick Corvette which I sold and kept this as it sounded better. Mine is an early one made in Korea which I reckon are 100% better than the current Chinese versions.

The fact that John Entwistle owned it will make absolutely no difference to your playing whatsoever. I guarantee it. It won't Never. Not now, not never. The fact he owned it doesn't make it a great playing guitar, he's probably owned loads of crap playing guitars and now they're being sold off. See past the bullshit. For that sort of money, you could buy a top of the range Alembic (if thats what floats your boat), take a right tasty doris out for a slap up meal, buy a small mountain of top class columbian, get your legover, hire a jag, drive her home, have brekkie at the ritz and still have change for a day out on the piss with your mates. Maybe even have enough to have a session with the Monday club at your local too...

As for being jealous, I saw this comment on another thread for a dodgey Precision, another forum member was accused of jealousy for making some factual comments about a decidedly dodgey guitar. I'm not saying your Thunderbird is dodgey but mate we're not 5 year old kids with attidude problems. One thing I think I can safely say is that not many people on here would resort to the comments out of shear jealousy. From what I can gather from the people who go on here *apart from your good self* is that that most are sane, level headed decent blokes who wouldn't resort to cheap comments out of "jealousy". They are making comments on the guitar you are selling. Lighten up and wise up. You'll get a lot more respect.

Exactly, the prices goes up with the thickness of the padding. The extra thick 25mm padding is a lot.

Its not bad, but to be honest, there haven't been many videos out that that have been great. Jaco's is probably the best of a bad bunch. If you want something useful, easy to follow, suitable for all levels and just downright good value for money then get Standing in the Shadows of Mowtown. I learned loads from that.

Agree that they look good. i have an old Korean Rockbass and its a great bit of kit...and for £180 it was a steal.
