  1. Hi! I've been gigging a 2x6 cab that I built years ago based on a pair of Faital Pro 6FE100s, and its really come into its own for double bass gigs recently as it's not too subby and I don't need loads of volume. But spotting this thread has inspired me to see if I can slim the rig down even more, so I've bought myself a Fane Sovereign 6-100 and a load more plywood. However, I'm having trouble getting the same results as you in WinISD. I've put in the driver specs as per https://www.fane-international.com/view-product/SOVEREIGN-6-100#tab-1 And have done some maths to guess the internal volume of your design, approx 10.5 litres: - Internal height 250mm (same as baffle height) - Internal width 306mm (same as baffle width) - Internal depth is external depth of 190mm minus the 15mm battens at the front, and the baffle and back panel thicknesses: 190 - 15 - 12 - 12 = 141mm - Volume of internal battens I and J is 2 * 220mm * 15mm^2 = 0.099 litres - Volume of internal battens K and M is 2 * 306mm * 15mm^2 = 0.14 litres - Total volume 250mm * 306mm * 141mm - 2 * 220mm * 15mm^2 - 2 * 306mm * 15mm^2 = 10.55 litres I've set the vent diameter to 64mm, but whatever I set the tuning frequency at, I get quite a different looking graph to what you've got And the calculated port length comes out way too long - e.g. at 70Hz, WinISD is telling me to have a 14cm long port. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? What did you tune the port to on this one? Cheers!
  2. Just sold Paul a preamp pedal - lovely guy and straightforward transaction. Thanks!!
  3. Sold John my Trace Elf head last week - an absolute pleasure to deal with. Thanks @loudspeaker!
  4. I hadn't seen that, will send a message - thanks!
  5. Trace Elliot Elf for sale - great condition with bag, power cable and original packaging. Happy to demo it at my place just outside Cambridge or post to mainland UK. Cheers!
  6. One Control Crimson Red preamp. Lovely sound but a bit too dark for what I need for some new projects - great for a thumpy fat tone. Currently £109+p&p at Thomann so say £85 posted to mainland UK, or happy to meet up near Cambridge or London King's Cross as I'm there a bunch over the coming weeks for a show. Good condition but there's a small chip on the front (visible in the photos on the "e" at the end of the word "designed" in the logo). Thanks!
  7. For sale is my first upright - a Thomann 111sn plywood bass. Bought this in 2018 where it had fairly limited use until a couple of years ago when I finally got round to learning how to play properly - and since then has been regularly played and gigged, enough that I decided to upgrade, hence the sale! This model is still for sale at Thomann - the description there says these are made of basswood, but I distinctly remember it saying Cedar when I bought it, and there's some really nice flame on the back and sides. Do however note the scratch on the heel: I've fitted the bass with adjusters and a pickup (can remove this if desired though): Some other pics: Case included (if you want it, it's nothing amazing but it does the job) - and I've also got the german-style bow it came with or a similar-quality french-style bow I could throw in too (will try and photograph these later!). The bass is set up and ready to play as I've been gigging this regularly for the last couple of years - currently with a lowish-medium action but there's room to go lower for someone who wants to build up hand strength slowly. It's received nothing but praise from teachers and gig-bookers so I'll be sad to see it go, but unfortunately I can't keep two double basses in the house. Logistics-wise, I'm just outside Cambridge. Could maybe meet within a reasonable radius for fuel money, or alternatively I've got a few gigs around the SE over the next few weeks so might be able to do a detour if things line up. Also very close to a train station to London so could meet there. Any questions just let me know, cheers! Chris
  8. I've got one of these and it's absolutely excellent (I actually really liked the thick neck) - don't need another sadly but GLWTS!
  9. Roger very kindly saved me a load of money by selling me a single double bass string so I didn't need a whole new set - an absolute pleasure to deal with. Thanks @bassace!
  10. Hi - I've got a grey Tom and Will upright gig bag for sale. It came with a bass I bought but I ended up selling the predecessor without a case so this is surplus to requirements. I believe it's 3/4 although it was fairly roomy on both the basses I've put in it so would suit a big 3/4 or maybe even a small 4/4. Very high quality case and in good condition. The only damage I can see is that the fabric has come undone on one of the handles (pictured). The cheapest I can see these going for new is £295 so grab one at under half price I'm based just north of Cambridge but I'm in London a lot for gigs and other music stuff so could meet at King's Cross or another train station along that line. Could also post at cost although it might require a bit of squashing to get into a box and I'm not sure what that would do to the stiffer foam panels. Cheers!
  11. Bought some bartolini pickups from Paul last week - they work a treat and somehow arrived in under 12 hours. Thanks a lot!
  12. Just bought a bunch of spirocores off Adrian - top notch communication and strings sent over straight away - thanks again!

Just took delivery of Kev's EBS preamp - what a pleasure, and somehow arrived in 3 days even with a postage mixup. Excellent stuff, thanks again!

    Feedback for ikay

Bought some double bass strings from Ian last week - exactly as described and arrived the next day. Great stuff - thanks very much!
  15. Yeah, the low profile of it does look cool. I just need to stop it wobbling about and rattling on top of the cab! The bigger feet I've got lying around are only about ~1cm so I don't think it'll look too silly.
  16. Following up... Another thing I've just noticed is the _tiny_ rubber feet on these things. I didn't spot it before because I was putting it on top of other gear, but the feet on these are only 5mm tall, which isn't enough to clear the handle on my cabinet. Fortunately they screw on, so it should be straightforward to swap them for some bigger ones once some longer screws arrive. (I think they're M3 but we'll find out for sure in a couple of days).
  17. Of course! I think I can probably cobble together a quick demo of some kind, give me a week or so... I'd be interested to see what you come up with as a lightweight small combo. My current cab is a 2x6 I built a few years ago. I didn't quite know how it would turn out but it's actually pretty versatile - I've done a lot more than acoustic stuff with it (like function sets at weddings with loud drummers) and never run out of power! I'm curious how the TC will compare to the MB200 once that stuff starts happening again.
  18. Just bought a compressor pedal from Etienne, who very kindly posted it minutes after I paid and it arrived the next day. Exactly as described and sounding great. Thanks!
  19. I've been wanting one of these super tiny bass heads for a while, but could never find much in the way of demos or reviews of any of them (TC, Trace or Warwick). However last week I saw an ex-demo BAM200 for sale so thought I'd go for it, and it arrived this morning I've been using a GK MB200 for the last 5 years or so, so that's what I'm comparing it to. There were a few things I couldn't find out before I bought it, so in no particular order: - There's a load of preamp compression available, depending on where you set the gain (also affected by diming the EQ, so I guess the compression is happening after EQ). This even happens with the master volume turned down, so this is a nice change from my MB200 where you only get the punchy limiter sound at deafening volumes. - It's waaaay less scooped EQ-wise than the MB200. There's definitely something subtle happening in the preamp making the tone more interesting than just using a PA speaker, but it's subtle, and in general it seems pretty clean. A P-bass and my active 6-string both sound awesome plugged straight in. However, my series-wired Jazz (series to add more mids to counteract the GK scooped EQ) is now pretty honky and nasty, at least with the EQ all at 12 o'clock. - Background hiss isn't silent, but it's pretty low. I tried a few small heads last year (the Markbass Nano 300 and the Warwick LWA500), and this is about the same as the Markbass. (The LWA500 was _silent_, I'd have kept it if the compressor worked). Unfortunately there is a fan, which has just come on after 10 minutes of bedroom-volume noodling. It's no louder than a laptop fan really so I'm not too worried, but worth knowing about if you care about fan noise. - I'm quite enjoying the sound, it feels very "balanced" - I usually roll off quite a bit of the highs, either on the bass or on the amp, but even then all the notes are clear, e.g. I can play 5ths low down and it's not a pile of mud. It works a lot better in the acoustically-dubious corner of a small room than the GK, which is very bassy by default and can be quite difficult to tame. Hopefully that's interesting/useful to someone. If there's anything anyone would like me to try out or find out then do let me know. Cheers!
  20. Top notch service from Greg (now MuddBass) - I bought an EBS octave pedal from him yesterday, and it arrived this morning, less than 24 hours later! All working great, I shall enjoy using it tastefully and responsibly on my next gig... Thanks again!
  21. Another +1 (is that +3 now?) for the ATH-m50x. I never had fun tracking bass on headphones until I borrowed a friend's pair, it was a complete gamechanger - even compared to the m20x I had before! I now have my own pair and wasn't disappointed, they sound great for jamming through an interface or monitoring while recording etc. The only problem is that I paid around £120 used, only to see them being sold off by Amazon for something like £80 each a few months later
