1.
Aaaah if only epifani amps went to 2 ohms I would have this off you in a heartbeat
Why do you want to run an amp at 2 ohms!? They really don't like that - even if they say they work at 2 ohms you're going to get better headroom and longevity at 4 If you've got so many cabs why not add another amp ? Curious to know what you're thinking.
 2. Update to the Update! The offer on the Trace Elliot 4x10 cabs has been withdrawn due to insufficient funds, so the rig is back on offer. I do have offers on the amp rack, but I'm hanging on to that so I can try to sell the speakers (and it's hard to demonstrate them without the Amp!) As mentioned earlier in the Thread I do have two GP11 preamps. I've now swapped the one with damaged faders for the one in pristine condition in the rack, so after further consideration and some advice the price on the Rack head is now £330 (or £300 with the damaged preamp) The 4x10s are £120 and £150 respectively (one is a little older than the other and shows a little more sign of use and age, but both work perfectly and have identical speakers). The Peavey 1x15 ported Bins are £150 for the pair and I have the home-made horn box for £30 This stuff new was:- GP11 - £200 RA500 - £700+ UV light - £120 SKB Rack case £100 4x10s - c £350 each 1x15s - £450 (the pair) Horn box - £50 (just for the parts) That's £2320 worth of top end 500w stereo (or mono) bass rig on offer for just £650 (or £675 with the pristine pre-amp).
 3. Truth is that all music is in modes whether you understand which one you're using or not. Most of the players who have no theory training and play 'by ear' are just using modes that sound right to them or that they've learned by trial an error. If you can do it as second nature your playing is going to sound more natural, but the best bet is to experiment and do your own thing. If your band's guitarist or keyboard player has any theory knowledge just listen to what they're doing and try to pick out some of the notes they use and see why they work in the harmony your playing to. A little bit of basic chord theory and a little ear training will do wonders for expanding your musical range. Some of the best musicians I've ever met didn't even know which key they were in!
 4.
Thanks for the replies, I should have my bass withon the next week so would quite like to start the lessons sooner rather than later, so I dont pick up bad habits of the you tubue lessons and also as I think i'll learn faster with a proper teacher, Cheers Mike
I may be able to help you in Glossop every other weekend. I don't do loads of heavy theory, but I've been teaching on and off for nearly 30 years, so I could get you going. It depends how long a lesson you want and how much you're happy paying. PM me if you want to discuss.
 5.
Oh yeah i'm in sunny old Bradford for anyone if they want to pickup.
Thanks for the pics, could you tell me how deep the gator case is - I'd have to swap this unit with my power amp and it's a deep thing - sticks out of the back of the SKB case I have, but the lid still closes on it. Sorry to be a pain, but any chance of a pic of the case lids too so I can get an idea if this would work? I may be passing your way on 15th Feb on the way to the Harrogate bash - were you planning to go to that?
 6. Thanks guys, I've emailed them today.
 7. I need to buy some spares for my Trace Elliot Preamp. Can anyone give me the correct contact details for them? Many thanks.
 8.
Give it a week and Fender will have a "Road Worn" version of it out....
I'm still hoping this is a photoshop mock up! In fact that gives me an idea for a new thread......
 9. Little update for those following this thread (!) I have serious offers on the Amp rack and Trace Elliot 4 x 10s now, so it does look as though there's only the Peavey Cabs left. (oh yes and the GP11 preamp with the damaged, but easily repairable faders if you want it!) Don't pass them by if you want manageable ported 15s that move some serious air and can still be lifted and carried by a normal sized person (even after a heavy gig and loads of beer!) £150 the pair (or a very near offer for cash or extremely valuable alternative enticement!)
 10.
Hi Guys, I'm selling a Bass Pod XT Pro with the Line 6 FBV Express Pedal Board (4 Pedals, expression, tap tempo and tuner). I've hardly used it and it's been flightcased (included) since new. I'm looking for £250 with all the cables and manual. I'll get some pics up if you want any Delivery will be about a tenner or pickup too. Thanks. Nick.
Is it just a 2U case - or is there space in there for more goodies? Any chance of some pics?
 11.
this is an absolutely epic deal! Glad I've already got what I need or my room would seem a lot smaller at the moment...
THANKS FOR THE ENDORSEMENT!, But when you've sold your gear you'll have loads of space! You know it makes sense, get MEGLOMANIA now and screw the critics!
 12. Very interesting series of threads - top job on those I've seen so far! A couple of comments, one of my first basses was a Pearl Rick 4001 copy and it was so accurate, apart from the bolt on neck, that once I'd glues the neck in place, made a new neck heel, painted her black and added an original Rickenbacker headstock logo, the Bass Centre in London thought it was a vintage original! So I'm not so sure about the comments on Rickenbacker protecting their designs at all. I'm also curious to know how you keep your woods dry? I've made some homemade furniture in the past and had trouble with joints swelling over time, which I have put down to my domestic inability to manage the moisture content of the wood. This (and a fundamental lack of talent) has stopped me from ever making my own instruments (even though I worked as a labourer at Fylde Guitars for around 4 years!)
 13.
You would be much better off getting a quote from a local technie as postage cost alone would write off me doing it. Also I don't have the time anymore for general repair work. Sorry i can't help
No problem - I have no idea where you are, but I have had a local guy recommended. Thanks
 14. OK, I have a very serious buyer for the amp part of the rig (Thanks for the PMs), so unless I get some proper interest for the whole system or the speakers in the next few days I'm going to let the amp go. C'mon, you know this is a serious bargain - priced at a sensible level for the credit crunch!!!
 15.
If you were having a bass made, or making a bass, or picking one out, what properties give a 'growly' sound. I tried this with punch, and the answers were fairly contrary. See how this one goes.
These terms are a little subjective, but a growly sound might simply be attributed to a little bit of overdrive (so an active bass might help - or a valve preamp in your rig) or it could just be a question of EQ, boosting low mids would add a degree of 'aggression' to a bass sound. I suggest you try a bass you know well through a good graphic equaliser and see what difference each slider makes. However, the growliest bass I ever owned was a rick 4001 (and that had single pole pickup!)
 16.
He owns two preamps (same model), one has the sliders broken but he has the spare parts available - so no worries (I know these things 'cause the seller told me about them).
Correct, I actually swapped the good preamp in the other rack for the one with the four damaged sliders, so this is a pristine example of this classic preamp (the one that made Mark King famous!!!) So you're right Matt, it's a total steal for £650, almost worth a weekend off travelling to the uk in a small hire van!!! (If you do decide to come, could I send you a list of some stuff you could bring over for me?)

 18.
About postage for you, i was messing around with UPS, well for quite a long distance anyway its around 80, just a heads up.
I've just been cleaning up the grille on the 410 cab. New pics on their way.... All of this lovely (but seriously large) gear still available to anyone that wants their bass to sound the nuts!
 19. Hi, I'm currently trying to sell a load of equipment, but amongst the list is a Trace Elliot Preamp. It's got damage to 4 of the 11 graphic faders after a guitar fell against it some years back. As the faders all still work (they're just a bit fiddly to adjust) I never got around to the repair. I even ordered replacement faders, but I have no idea where these are now. Assuming that the faders are still an off-the-shelf item, could you give me some idea of the likely cost of a repair without seeing the unit? - It's not going to be worth a great deal even with the faders repaired, but if it's relatively economic to do it I would have it sorted. Many thanks!
 20.
Come down the A1 on Feb 15th, as two members are threatening to bring their sticks to the bash!
Who's the other one Phil?
 21. Is this a dead thread, or do you still have one for sale? I know it's six months since the last post(!)
 22.
...I may make the Yorkshire bash Anyone fancy an ACG pre demo? Peter
Yes please, that would be interesting, there should be some serious bits of bass there by all accounts - I'm planning on bringing a car full!
 23.
I found mine on craiglist it was also on talkbass, as it was when the dollar was 2 to the pound so cost around 700 plus duty, It came with flight case and soft case, also Emmett Chapman and his family are still hands on and helpful at a personal level, I had to restring it and set it up, which isnt as easy as you think, its not like a bass and mine was well out of sorts when I got it, for more interest go to www.stickist.com/forum we should start a self help group as well. I always need help...
Yeah - do we get a discount if all 5 of us buy a set of strings together!???
 24.
not a problem. bloody plugger
Hey a free bump is a free bump!
