Do you have another preamp or a mixing desk you can check the Rode out with? Focusrite pres are usually pretty robust - at whatever price point. It's always good practice to switch off phantom power before disconnecting any capacitor mic like the Rode. It could damage the mic otherwise.
-
Having said that - it may be cheaper to replace the microphone . You can get them secondhand for less than £100. Worth checking your phantom power on your preamp. Obvious I know but worth a look. The SM58 is a dynamic mic so won't need phantom powering.

Hi Bilbo, Give a call to the Rode distributor in the UK. http://www.sourcedistribution.co.uk …I'm sure they could sort this out. Alternatively if you want to repair and pimp your Rode have a think about Micael Joly's excellent mic mods. He's in the US but if you fill out your customs forms correctly you shouldn't be paying any taxes. I had a pair of Oktava mics modded by him last year and I'm very happy with them. http://www.oktavamodshop.com/product_info.php?products_id=145&osCsid=b2b99llag7qtivn4lr39rhnpe3

I bought Dean's Darkglass Vintage pedal. Good price and pedal as described. But as he lived relatively close by he dropped over and delivered it to me! Fantastic! He's a lovely bloke. Great to have a cup of tea and talk about bass!
Some weeks ago a Sadowsky UV70 appeared in the For Sale section. It was just what I was looking however the seller, jack_b was in Poland, which meant there was no way I could go and look before buying. I contacted Jack and he answered all my questions about the bass. We agreed the price and then to my surprise Jack offered, as I was a long established Forum member, to ship it to me saying I could pay him after it had arrived. Everything went according to plan. The UV70 is exactly as described and it arrived promptly with no damage. I certainly have no reservations about dealing with Jack again.
This! Jack B did the same for me too! I was seriously interested in his Fender Jazz Antigua. After a few emails, exchange of pics and agreeing on a price I asked him if he had any sound clips as I couldn't try the bass for myself (it was in Poland). He offered to send the bass for me to try and pay after I was happy. Jack is a trusting BCer and a great person to deal with. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again. He truly is one of the gems of this forum. Derrick

I'm moving on this lovely bass as just isn't getting played since I bought my Rob Allen. It's a Fender Japan CIJ '62 reissue Jazz bass in 3 tone sunburst, alder body, lined fretless rosewood fretboard and US vintage pickups. It's been upgraded with CTS posts, Switchcraft jack socket and an oil paper Vitamin Q capacitor. This work was carried out by Jonathan at Feline Guitars who also set up the bass. It dates from 2004-2006 according to its Rxxxxx serial number. Specs in the following link: http://www.theguitar...-FJ-JB62-FL.htm It's in excellent condition and comes with a standard Fender Japan gig bag. Currently strung with standard guage DR HiBeam Flats. Collection from my home in Upper Norwood/Crystal Palace, South London preferred. I can post at cost. Price is £575. If you go for it get it fitted by a luthier unless you know what you're doing. Jonathan at Feline Guitars in Croydon did mine. An excellent job and much cheaper than what Status quoted. As for the sound/feel - there are so many conflicting opinions on this. And it depends on what you want from your bass. If the opportunity arises to try one out for yourself this would be best. I have a fretted and fretless fitted to two different Stingrays. I really like them. The profile is more a D shape and the feel and quality of finish is sublime. They are both warm and mellow sounding necks - quite the opposite of what most say they should sound like! I wouldn't fit one to my Precision though. I think it would take the P bass quality too far away from what I want from that particular bass.

Neil has just bought my Godin A5SA. He drove all the way from Stafford to London and now faces the long trek home. He'll do anything for the bass he loves . He's a great guy, modest and with some very interesting stories. Shame you live so far away. Would be great to go for a pint sometime. Highly recommended. Until next time on BC! Derrick

I have fretted and fretless Status necks on two of my Stingrays. I love 'em. They don't sound bright or clinical. They just sound good. The tone is still in the fingers as far as I'm concerned. If anything the tone of my fretted Status Ray is a little more well mannered than my '83 maple necked Ray. I have a 62 RI CIJ fretless Jazz that I'm thinking of moving on as to me the fretless Status Ray wins every time. And I'm not a fan of the full blown status sound at all. I'm based in Crystal Palace, South London. OP is welcome to drop in and check them out for himself if necessary.
