  1. For me Daft Punk's RAM was the best sounding album I've heard in years. Sonically it's a treat. I was disappointed by how light it was on content. The album needed more tunes. Many more tunes and much less filler.
  2. Sorry, had to pop out to pick up the kids! Playability wise it's fantastic. I cannot fault it and it has a great "acoustic" sound and resonance. It's pretty lightweight too. Plugged in, I don't think I've really found its sweet spot yet. When I got it I had the pots and cap upgraded (maybe I have the wrong cap for the bass). I've had Nordstands in it and currently have Lindy Fralin PUs in it and I'm still working it out. TBH I have nothing really to compare it to. My other Jazz is the all ash/maple JB75 reissue - that has Nordstrands and a John East preamp and sounds like a totally different beast - a very modern "Super Jazz" type tone. I may experiment with a different cap and/or different brand of strings with the JB66. I'm looking at it now. It sure is pretty.....
  3. I've got one. I got mine used from Ishibashi. Once imported and after taxes it cost about the price of a new one. But it is pretty and I had to have it.
  4. Very interesting. Thanks for posting. Can I buy your 64s You're right about the Nord bridge pickup sounding thinner. I preferred the Wizards on all examples but the Nord neck did sound good. Nice chops!
  5. Lusty! If I had the money I'd buy just so that nobody else could have it.

  7. I used to be in this band. After doing a load of free work for them I was sacked for reasons unknown with a very offensive email. They get through personnel at an alarming rate. Looks like they are looking for another new bass player. Fun music, good players but approach with caution.
  8. Amazing. The best looking Statii are the early ones in my opinion. And a Series II, to address it by its proper title
  9. I would say go for something that's going to be familiar. If you're used to J basses, go for a fretless J. Ditto for number of strings. It's quite a different beast to fretted. I play Js and Stingrays. My first fretless was a Godin A5. Lovely bass, but I still haven't got used to it. Since I got a fretless Jazz I've been so much more at home and would be happy to go out and gig with it. Any gig but a reading gig - I don't yet have the confidence to play without looking down from time to time.
  10. No Fello you can't! You can't sell this little monster. This thing has caused my head to implode wherever we've shared a stage together. Seriously loud! Good luck with the sale amigo.
  11. Sold my TC Electronic Nova Repeater pedal to Manos. Fast payment and a pleasant transaction. A credit to Basschat Derrick

  13. I recently bought the Ibanez for my nine year old. I cannot fault it in anyway. It's small, light and sounds huge with the PJ pick-up configuration. I had to lower the action and I'm going to buy lighter gauge strings as my son is very small for his age - but that's it. If you do go for this and buy from Thomann get the package with the gig bag. It's a tenner extra but is actually a really good case.
  14. Very good. I have two in different EB basses both paired with Nordstrand MM2s. It isn't pre-EB (I have two of those too ) but certainly gets a lot closer than the stock EB. I wouldn't hesitate. Just go for it.

  16. A double! New Bass day: Ibanez GRSM short scale in spangly red. £160 including gigbag from Thomann. Unbelievable quality for the money. Cannot fault it in any way. If this cost three times more it would still be excellent value. Many thanks to alyctes for switching me on to this fantastic instrument. New Bassist Day: My nine year old son Marvan. He's been playing piano for a few years and has wanted to explore bass for a while. He's absolutely made up with this. He's a rocker, but I'll get him grooving too. Watch out Basschatters - all our gigs are about to disappear

  18. The bass control on a J-Retro is boost only. There is a centre detent, but it is just there as a point of reference I think. There's technical info on John East's site that shows this.

  22. Sounds OK to me. Pretty much how I remember the studio version.
