1. Sold my TC Electronic Nova Repeater pedal to Manos. Fast payment and a pleasant transaction. A credit to Basschat Derrick
2. I recently bought the Ibanez for my nine year old. I cannot fault it in anyway. It's small, light and sounds huge with the PJ pick-up configuration. I had to lower the action and I'm going to buy lighter gauge strings as my son is very small for his age - but that's it. If you do go for this and buy from Thomann get the package with the gig bag. It's a tenner extra but is actually a really good case.
3. Very good. I have two in different EB basses both paired with Nordstrand MM2s. It isn't pre-EB (I have two of those too ) but certainly gets a lot closer than the stock EB. I wouldn't hesitate. Just go for it.
4. A double! New Bass day: Ibanez GRSM short scale in spangly red. £160 including gigbag from Thomann. Unbelievable quality for the money. Cannot fault it in any way. If this cost three times more it would still be excellent value. Many thanks to alyctes for switching me on to this fantastic instrument. New Bassist Day: My nine year old son Marvan. He's been playing piano for a few years and has wanted to explore bass for a while. He's absolutely made up with this. He's a rocker, but I'll get him grooving too. Watch out Basschatters - all our gigs are about to disappear
5. The bass control on a J-Retro is boost only. There is a centre detent, but it is just there as a point of reference I think. There's technical info on John East's site that shows this.
6.
What is that song ? Not heard it for years, want to give it a noodle now !
Duel by Propaganda
7. Sounds OK to me. Pretty much how I remember the studio version.
8. Isn't that Derek Forbes? Much celebrated player round these parts..
9. There ought to be a sub-forum for fakers.... I just saw this on the Bass Palace website: http://thebasspalace.com/product_info.php?products_id=419&osCsid=d27a6c60ae87d9ec93f90c1d0bd88399 Is this in any way legit? My guess is that it's a custom build/homemade with Status parts. I don't remember seeing anything like this coming from our man in Essex.
10. Agreed. It was an in the moment thing. What this doesn't reflect unfortunately is that it was a fantastic and unmissable gig. As always on YT with players like King, Wooten, Miller etc the pyrotechnics get uploaded - the music doesn't.
11. Honestly....it was brilliant. The tone, the style, the groove.....just sublime. Yes the bass duet did get a bit excessive, but hey, it was in the moment with both MK an LG really going for it. I've never seen MK sweat so much trying to keep up with LG. It looked like he was on the verge of cardiac arrest! What counts for me is what's played...how it is played doesn't matter so much. The music was great
12. I saw Graham Central Station at the Jazz Café in London tonight. If you can get hold of a ticket for tomorrow then you gotta see them. Incredible band, incredible musicianship, showmanship, true audience participation (ie getting members of the audience to come on stage and play!) and an unashamed slapfest in the best possible taste. Unbelievably funky. And this other geezer wondered on stage for a bonkers bass duet halfway through the gig!
13. I haven't tried the Podfarm but I have Mark Studio V1 and IK Multimedia's Ampeg SVX. I've had very limited success with both and wouldn't buy either again. When mixing I've spent time with both and have always gone for regular EQ and compressor plugins over the amp simulators. I don't find either of them useable in the projects that I have worked on. However I have used just the heads from Mark Studio and used a different plugin for cab and room simulation to good effect though (B-Room from MOTU's DP8) which made me feel better about buying MS. I haven't tried Mark Studio V2, but I couldn't recommend it based on my knowledge of V1.
14. It's always nice to deal with Chris. A top guy and a credit to BC. I bought his Heil PR-40 microphone. Mic as he described it, great to deal with, delivered when he said it would be. Can't ask for anything more
