  1. I’ll message you later about another one!
  2. Hi all, I made an ill-considered bass purchase recently so some of my pedals not currently on boards are on the block. Up for sale are a couple of my most prized Cog pedals: the CMM00 dual fuzz octave and the absolute monster that is the Hellraiser custom bass multi-effect. More details on both can be found here (as extracted below too): https://www.cogeffects.co.uk/custom.php (further photo below) CMM00 Dual Fuzz Octave - £300 £275 posted to the UK - a pedal built for Royal Blood-style bi-amping but which can be used on a single amp too thanks to a mix output. Given Tom at COG made pedals for Mike Kerr of Royal Blood it's not surprising this unit is so good. As per the COG site: "Built as the basis of Royal Blood/Death From Above 1979 style bass-and-faux-guitar rig, this pedal features a rehoused Electro-Harmonix Micro POG and two Fuzz Face/Mastotron-based fuzz circuits, with additional routing circuitry to provide a great deal of flexibility. The signal is split after the input, with one signal sent through the POG and then the fuzz circuits, and another uneffected signal sent to the Kill footswitch before the output. Each signal is then split again, and sent to both their own output jack and also to a mixer with Wet and Dry level knobs to send to a third output with the blend of both the bass and faux guitar signal." Signal chain: https://www.cogeffects.co.uk/cmm00.php Hellraiser - £450 SOLD posted to the UK - This is an absolute beast of pedal with a T-65 octave, Grand Tarkin bass fuzz and Knightfall distortion in parallel. The top is the Hellraiser design but it reminds me of the top-down view of the Millennium Falcon. As per the COG site "Grand Tarkin Bass Fuzz, Knightfall Distortion and T-65 Octave all in parallel. Four level controls for mixing Dry signal, with only one ever active depending on which combination of effects are selected. This is very much an expansion on the concept of the T-65 Octave and parallel sub octave in general. Artwork is an adaptation of the Puzzle Box from the 1987 film Hellraiser, with oversized Moog-style knobs to finish things off." Trades: This is meant to be a bass-acquisition-related sale but I'd be interested in trading for a Cog T-70 in the later finish (https://www.cogeffects.co.uk/t-70-octave.php) just to have tried it; it's the only one of the nine stock pedals COG was offering for sale before COVID that I haven't played. If anyone would like more photos, please let me know. I can't remember what Basschat's policy is on photo hosting so I'm trying to limit numbers but obviously want to be as upfront as possible about the condition of the pedals. Thanks for reading!
  3. Really lovely bass, congratulations! I've not played a Masterbuilt instrument but the Teambuilt ones are good so I suspect this must be amazing. It's a beauty too; I hope you get a lot of joy and use out of it.
  4. Hi all, I made an ill-considered bass purchase recently so some of my pedals not currently on boards are on the block. Up for sale are my hand-wired Sushibox Slampegg in rainbow's end finish, a Broughton Subsonic and Triunuglo Barbanera low pass filter. (a couple more photos below) Broughton Subsonic OC-2-style octave - £185 £150 SOLD posted to the UK - I have one of these on my main board and this was intended for a project that did not come to fruition. It's a brilliant bit of kit and can be run at 18v for more headroom (more details: https://www.broughtonaudio.com/product-page/subsonic). Sushibox Slampegg B15-style preamp - £150 SOLD posted to the UK (please read full description) - Sushibox goes from strength to strength, as the release of the Finally and Neptunium have shown. The Slampegg is the B15-eqsque model. This unit is the hand-wired version and is in the rainbow's end finish from the last run in which Nathan was still customising pedals. it's in excellent cosmetic condition but, In full disclosure, I have sold this pedal before but the buyer returned it (and kept the box, annoyingly). I usually run the pedal at 12v and behind a buffer so hadn't experienced any issues but the buyer, running it at 9v and with no buffer, observed oscillation at a particular setting. The pedal cost me a little over £300 new and I've not experienced trouble with it but, taking into account that risk, I've offered it as low as I can reasonably go. I no longer have the box for this pedal. Triungulo Barbanera Moog MF-101-style low-pass filter - £225 £215 SOLD posted to the UK - One of the best filters I've used. Absolute squelchy magic from a pedal based on the Moog MF-101. If anyone would like more photos, please let me know. I can't remember what Basschat's policy is on photo hosting so I'm trying to limit numbers but obviously want to be as upfront as possible about the condition of the pedals. Anyway, thanks for reading!
  5. Hi all, I made an ill-considered bass purchase recently so some of my pedals not currently on boards are on the block. Up for sale are my Empress Bass Compressor in the silver finish, an Ecosystem Delay, and Reverb. Empress make some fantastic pedals and each of these is typically being touted as being in the top ranks of their class. On the Reverb and Delay, I had the Strymon equivalents and the Empress pedals were the ones that stuck. (a couple more photos below) Echosystem Dual Engine Delay - £300 £285 posted to the UK - a truly brilliant delay and a tough one to part with. I've looked after is and it's in generally great condition save that, annoyingly, a few small spots of paint peeled off the backing plate when removing dual lock - always frustrating when you've babied pedals. Again, it comes boxed with all of the bits. SOLD Bass Compressor - £200 £190 posted to the UK - this is in excellent condition and comes boxed with all of the bits. SOLD Reverb - £300 posted to the UK - probably my favourite of the bunch and it has beer mode. This is in very good condition save that there a couple of very small nicks and, like the Echosystem, some of the paint peeled off the backing plate when removing dual lock. I don't have the box for this one. SOLD If anyone would like more photos, please let me know. I can't remember what Basschat's policy is on photo hosting so I'm trying to limit numbers but obviously want to be as upfront as possible about the condition of the pedals. Anyway, thanks for reading!
  6. The FTe Amianto is back in stock: https://www.ftelettronica.com/product/amianto-bass-distortion/
  7. I'd recommend looking at the Shiftline Olympic MKIIIS for sale on here. I'd put them in a similar tonal bucket and with an effects loop, but with tubes, a headphone out and IRs. The 12V requirement is a bit tricky but it's a very good bit of kit. The price is excellent too.
  8. I love everything about this. Really nice boards (and good photos too!).
  9. I agree with that. My tastes and preferences are very different now but they were helpful starting points for me to help me understand what I do and don’t like. My boards bear no real similarity to theirs now.
  10. Justin Chancellor and Ian Allison informed my early choices, so likely the other end of the scale. Justin Chancellor’s boards are famously massive but I wanted to know how he was getting some of his tones. I realised what I was really liking was a driven flanger into a delay. Seeing his board also made me think that it was okay for a bass player to have a big board without feeling guilty. The synth tones Ian Allison was getting from a fuzz, octave, envelope and chorus made me look up and take notice of him too.
  11. Congratulations on the upcoming big birthday! If you’re keen to get one in your hands on or near your birthday it probably makes sense to have a chat with Bass Direct as a Dingwall dealer if you’re not already doing that. They currently have a build slot for an ABZ ready to be confirmed according to their order table https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/brand_page/dingwall/ so you may be able to shortcut the current three year wait time (as per an interview with Sheldon at Guitar Summit in which he notes they’re working to bring that down). Dingwall are also potentially offering a fast-track/semi-frills version in future. I’ve linked the interview at the bottom. Bass Freaks in Belgium are another dealer with good stock options and I’ve seen the odd used Dingwall bass at the Gallery and Bass Bros. I recently received a D-ROC Custom and found the team at Dingwall to be very helpful in terms of describing what wood combinations work well and why, and they’re not shy to give their opinion. There’s sometimes a delay in responding but overall I can’t really fault them. I already had an NG3 with a maple neck and opted for a wenge neck and wenge fretboard on the D-ROC. I absolutely love the feel of it and the resulting tone. I’ve got a used model with an ovangkol neck on the way and I’ve seen the roasted ash get some love over on Talkbass recently. I’d like to think it’s hard to go wrong. Congratulations again and please keep us updated with the route you go!
  12. Hello! I’m back from my honeymoon. I’ll happily do this. I’ll message you.
  13. Loving the board! Loving two compressors as well. I also like to use one at the beginning and one at the end: the first as more of an effect and the one at the end (typically a big box unit) to tidy things up or give it a sparkle. The first isn’t always on but the latter, working in tandem with the preamp, is.
  14. Since Ovnilab stopped being updated another good site is https://www.compressorpedalreviews.com It's run by a Talkbass moderator and, while it doesn't go into the detail of Ovnilab, it offers helpful insights. The Cali76 CB is great and it's easy to get some nice tones out of it. I view it as imparting a nice but subtle flavour to the tone. If you want something more colourful, the Diamond Bass Comp/EQ is a classic, while the Empress Bass Comp sits at the other end of the scale if you're after something crystal clear. BECOS make some brilliant compressors in small format, while the Caveman Audio is good if you want something and care less about the footprint. Broughton Audio's Omnicomp is outstanding too.
  15. I started doing this with regard to set ups, strings, battery-replacements and dehumidifier packs. It's been quite useful! I've kept a record too of various materials, measurements and profiles - I think I just like keeping lists... My spreadsheet started as a way of tracking where I bought basses and pedals from, when, how long the warranty lasted and whether I had registered for the warranty. As things progressed I just carried on filling it out and tracked other details like serials and expenditure and used it to benchmark whether used prices were reasonable.
  16. Similar here in spreadsheet format. Edit: I've also catalogued a lot of the pedals and basses I've owned on Instagram too.
  17. It’s worth giving him an email. He sometimes works in batches and can at least let you know when the next ones are due.
  18. Are you looking for an alternative to the Human Gear Animato and have seen the FTe Amianto? I’ve only seen the Amianto as a take on the Animato, and I had one for a while so there should be a few floating around in the U.K., but if you’re after an alternative to either then I’ll let others chime in. https://www.ftelettronica.com/product/amianto-bass-distortion/
  19. Aitken Audio in Sheffield have fixed a few pedals for me: https://www.aitkenaudio.co.uk
  20. I think Bass Gallery in London can provide them, although I think they may charge a fee. I asked about it once but I’ve not used them for one.
  21. Thanks all! I really like that feature because it's quite subtle. It may seem a bit daft to say it about a bass this shape but I was going for as sleek and simple as a bass in that colour/shape could be. The headstock detail added a little class to a bass that could quite easily (and to some people probably is) garish. Thanks! That's how I reacted when I saw and heard Ian Allison playing his. I've not had such an immediate reaction to a bass before. I've been excited about this arriving for a seeming age. Thanks very much!
  22. I’ve only written one new bass day post before but I’ve been very excited to share this one because it’s the first bass I’ve ever had built to my spec: a Dingwall D-Roc Custom 5-string in matte ari gold. I’ve had it a couple of weeks now but it’s taken me a short while to get around to writing the post. I would love to blame the delay on spending all my time playing the bass but I’m hoping that time is to come. From ordering to having it in my hands playing it took just shy of a couple of years, although I think the expected wait times have slipped out a bit since then. I was playing my Thunderbird a lot at the time of ordering but wanted a good five string. Ian Allison serendipitously released a video comparing the Thunderbird to a D-Roc and I was quickly on the phone to Bass Direct checking what was possible. The bass is effectively the D-Roc Custom stock spec except, like the ari gold D-Roc in Ian Allison’s video, it has a wenge neck. In a divergence to the one in the video, I asked for no face dots, no pick-guard and uniform dark wenge to go for a sleek black/gold look. It came out exactly as I hoped it would. I’m looking forward to spending more time with it. I’m relatively used to fanned frets from playing an NG3 but it would be good to spend more time building some muscle memory. The tone is more growly than that of the NG3, which is what I was hoping for. It’s also the first fully-passive 5-string bass that I’ve owned. It’s a bit strange not to be playing with a fully-featured preamp but the 4-way pick-up selector means there are a variety of tones available. I would write/gush more but I have a bass to play!
  23. Thanks very much! The original finish was very battered when I got it and Evan Craig at Dirge Electronics very kindly agreed to refinish it. I’ve loved his style for ages so I was thrilled when he agreed. The colours are based on the 3 Leaf colours but the design is all Evan’s (as is the Slowly Melting next to it). I gather that taking the Chromatron apart and putting it back together was such a fraught affair that Evan has turned down other custom jobs.
  24. In this board, nothing, I’m using it as an in-line effect. It sounds a bit like wind-chimes on its own but sounds great with a fuzz and octave going through it. How are you using yours? My favourite thing to use through it has been the Slowly Melting. The Divaricator hits just the frequencies I want and the exciters make for interesting textural changes. This board is more of a display piece given I have a board set up that does what I wanted. I had a rejig recently though and wanted to put something colourful together. The Divaricator, like the other Iron Ether pedals, are destined back for their own board.
  25. I recently put together a few new boards. I know that themed or manufacturer-specific boards can split opinion but, as mentioned on a prior post, messing around with pedals is my main outlet and I've been itching to put these boards together for a while. EAE board - some of you have seen a few other manufacturer-specific boards I've put together but, with the exception of the Broughton board which covers all bases, this one is the most versatile (if only EAE made a flanger and a compressor...). 0xEAE Fuzz > Longsword > Halberd > Bard > Mother > Model FeT > Prismatic Wall > Sending > Hypersleep Heavy board - I've wanted to put this together for ages. It's not as versatile as some of the other boards I've put together but it's remarkably heavy and can be used in conjunction with a specific (smaller) modulation board. Dirtfixer (Wizard in the loop) > MBD2 > Bluebeard > > Chungus > MBD(3) > Iron Pig > Parabellum v2 > Life v3 > Oprichniki > Bass Mountain > Hellraiser > DA-120 Colourful board - this is a labour of love for me and contains some of my most cherished pedals (including the first present my partner ever bought me), some customs and a few one-offs from some of my favourite builders. PDR > POIROC2 > MAE Forever > SubT > DubT > FMeron > Zero Fret > Divaricator > Polytope > Ampigole > Malombra > Arcing Prisms > Chromatron > Delay Llama > Barbenloris > Melt > Mocking Blur > Count-to-5 > Nimbus SE
