Looks good, I reckon my next headphone amp will be this Mooer Prime P1. I've owned the Vox and Nux ones but both broke (on my second Nux though as it is generally a good bit of kit). I know it is asking a lot, but if it had a tuner then the Mooer would do me fine for band practice and perhaps live stuff (I have a clip on tuner but it doesn't tend to work well in noisy places and on the B string). It'd be less stuff to carry and take up stage space and it reduces the amount of things to go wrong - no power supply/patch cables/multiple pedals to potentially go wrong or have unwanted settings or forget to bring, all eggs in one basket though!

I'm not full time but the run up to Christmas/NYE is busy for bands for parties/corporate things. Then the ski season properly kicks off. I've done 4 ski seasons (3 in French Alps), not playing Bass but was resident DJ for a bar/club. Bands were in demand and there is plenty of extra work in bars, driving, kitchens, hotels, cleaning etc. Not sure how the B word has affected it though. And stuff like music teaching, session work (I know someone that uses fiverr), writing, production, etc. don't stop in the winter.

Yeah, isn't much of an upgrade. I have the MPC Keys and don't find the Wifi/Bluetooth particularly useful. More internal storage is handy bit there is the external option. I'm itching to use it live but am in a 9 piece with a keyboard player so it'd definitely be overkill!

I've just finished reading 'A Scanner Darkly' by Philp K D ick, it's science fiction but also semi autobiographical relating to confusing the sense of self. It's worth a read - about someone literally viewing themselves as different persona (undercover cop assigned to investigate himself by immersively 'scanning' recordings of himself acting as a different person) and mentally losing touch with the reality of who he actually is.

I mostly play Dub/Reggae/Ska but also a bit of Doom and I've found extra scale length does help to keep a B string tighter. You don't have to have a multi-scale for that (I had a 35" scale Lakland that was good) but it means that the higher strings get a bit tight/bright/twangy, multi-scale helps keep the tension and tone more similar across all strings and the fanned frets also make playing a bit more comfortable for longer scales. I had a 5 string Dingwall Combustion (37"-34") which was good but was heavy at about 4.5kg and quite expensive. I now have an Ibanez EHB1005MS which is half the price, sounds nearly as good, and is much more comfortable to play at 3.3kg and a shorter reach (35"-33").

MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter is probably my #1 pedal for tweaking and noodling, have spent hours mucking about with it rather than doing 'proper' practice. There are other envelope filters I prefer the sound of, but none I've found have quite the same hands-on adjustability and immediate feel. Team up with the Auguilar Octamizer and that is a lot of different sounds. Add an MXR Brown Acid for fuzzy doom sounds (also works well with the Octamizer). Or, if I'm being boring and practical and there is a band on the desert island: Nux Flow Tune (tuner), FEA Opti-FET Compressor, DHA VT2 (EQ/Drive/DI).

I find it analogous to Kindle vs paper books, streaming vs vinyl, digital camera vs film etc. Multi-fx logically/practically make more sense than individual pedals, but individual pedals have a more 'soul' (for want of a better word). Personally, I prefer multi-fx for bands where I know what all the songs are all going to be and to set presets accordingly. For more of a spontanious jam band type thing I prefer stomping on and adjusting individual pedals.

The Nux Flow Tuner is good. Small but with big bright screen, tough, accurate, buffer, pink. I prefer it to the others I've owned (D'Addario chromatic and Korg Pitchblack mini).

I seem to remember doing pretty much that. The 'alt' control are a bit tricky though - it flashes to allow alt editing for a few seconds before reverting, so you can easily end up altering the wrong thing. It is a great pedal, just a bit tricky to get all that editing changed on the go. There are the presets though.

The EQ is good. The main issue being quick access to editing it live.

Pretty much self taught, but after a few months of playing I think I paid £100 for 4x hour long lessons over a month which was worthwhile to point out bad habits I was falling into - something youtube and books can't really point out.

& The Mike Flowers Pops (cover of wonderwall) who I remember being interviewed at the time and asked if he'd be a one hit wonder, the response was 'that's better than being a no hit wonder'.

I'm sure 70s Punk bands said far worse to/about their audiences, whereas Boyzone only ever complimented them. I know who I'd rather see live.

In both this and the Royal Blood discussion there's an air of 'they get moody and say things I don't agree with.... I never liked them anyway, they're 1 trick pony's'. Extend being offended by people in bands saying things you don't agree with and we'll end up with bland AI bands that never say anything contentious.

Risk vs hassle. Why not carry backup pants incase you 5h1t yourself?

I'll take onboard the collective knowledge of basschat - I had been planning on selling my spare 5 string Bass but will keep it as backup instead.

To everyone taking one as a backup - has a backup ever been needed? I only ever use one and Basses seem like tough/reliable things where not much can go wrong, and nothing has ever gone wrong for me. Perhaps I've just been lucky though.

Plethora + C4 + Ultrawave sounds like a good setup. The problem with other multi fx is they don't tend to have very good filters and synths (certainly not as good as the C4), so even getting something quite high-end like a Helix or Boss GT 1000 would still benefit having a C4, so that option also gets a bigger and more expensive and needs high current power bricks etc.
