  1. Just bought a Cab from Sid and it was all good. Cab as described, good communications, and good meeting up. Nice doing business with you, thanks!
  2. Non-isolatated power can add noise and something I've only just found out is that some pedals (in my case an optical compressor) require fully isolated power supply, but not all power bricks advertised as 'isolated' are fully isolated. A cut and paste on it : some power supplies advertised as 'isolated' only have separate regulators, filters and over current protection for each of the DC output positive terminals but the output negative (ground) terminals are still bonded together - which is not a true isolated supply. Sometimes in a pedal board there are ground currents that cause the sensitive threshold detector circuits in the compressor to trigger without any audio signal. This issue is almost always power ground loop currents between the pedals with a power supply that has a common ground like a daisy-chain or power brick with the grounds bonded together.
  3. That's what I'd go for. Origin Effects need to make a matching tuner though!
  4. FEA have been giving some very good customer service and sent me a few emails to try to resolve the issue. It looks like it might be my power supply rather than the compressor, to paraphrase their response: I use a Harley Benton Power supply which is advertised as being isolated, but while some power supplies advertised 'isolated' they only have separate regulators, filters and over current protection for each of the DC output positive terminals but the output negative (ground) terminals are still bonded together - which is not a true isolated supply. (I need to test this using a digital ohm meter by measuring the resistance between the center pins (negatives) between two outputs, testing without the power supply energized should show infinite resistance between the two of the center pins if the supply has truly isolated outputs). So using a fully isolated supply or battery powering the compressor should resolve the issue. ......I'll report back! If there is no issue with the compressor the sale price will be £200.
  5. Well, it's sort of the point I'm making - that they are over the top cliche statements about how people think others get overly offended nowadays when the reality is that not many people are actually offended by those things. Aparently the Winterval/cancel christmas thing was in the Daily Mail 44 times, and the The Times and The Sunday Times mentioned it 40 times before the papers needing to admit that it's a false story where no-one ever had any intention of cancelling christmas. People enjoyed getting reading stories and getting annoyed by ficticious liberals getting annoyed though, us vs them. I haven't really seen people on this thread genuinely be upset and angry about that ad saying 'no women', they're just discussing how it makes the bloke (assuming it's a bloke?!) sound a bit of a kn0b.
  6. I'm not sure anyone is as annoyed as keeps being suggested. That's a bit like the culture war narrative of 'all these woke milenials are forcing us to cancel christmas and call it winterval and eat vegan sausage rolls and not call anyone Mrs'.
  7. Ah, nice - have just found that, it would have saved me some time! Still, was probably a useful exercise figuring it out myself.
  8. Lorna Bennett 'Breakfast in Bed' has taken me longer than it probably should have, the chord changes kept catching me out, just about got it now though. Next up is Jonny Nash 'Tears on my Pillow'.
  9. You can team the super vintage up with the new matching Cali76 Bass compressor: https://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/product/220117379735008--origin-effects-cali76-compact-bass-super-vintage-blue-compresso?gclid=Cj0KCQiA09eQBhCxARIsAAYRiym9Ycn1yuuad-PoNz-fdyDfXAPNGxDikTauOpbH62O62iIa_O90IlsaAr8uEALw_wcB
  10. I wonder what Bob thought in his later more political years about having sung 'funky funky chicken and the mash potato, do the aligator'. Hopefully he'd be proud as this one's got the funk!
  11. This one's more fun:
  12. I don't think that ad is specific enough in terms of what musicians are wanted and what route to go down musically for making original stuff "All rock and I mean all influences from the 60's onwards. I do like most genres but would like to do original stuff that is influenced by the last 3 decades" ....that needs more of a specific musical direction to get like-minded musicians to form a band, especially as he's the only person in this 'band' so far. He's outlined negatives- what he doesn't want (Women, C & W, and people who don't sing and look at their pedalboard) but what musicians is he looking for? What creative route to go down? Should a Trumpet player who wants to be in a Ska Punk band apply? Keyboard player for Black Metal? Rapper for Rap Metal? Djent Bass player? Singing Thrash metal drummer? Considering the negative and musically directionless vibe of the add I'd assume there won't be many responses, but to then sign off with 'no Women' is the icing on the cake to probably get no responses at all!
  13. Cheers, yeah I think it'll be fine for someone intending to use it at home and for practice and recording sessions. Someone using it live probably won't want the risk of needing to click it off/on though. Hopefully it's just a simple enough fix of a loose connection.....I might try myself if there are no takers.
  14. I am a bit weird with them, I think this is my 4th! I kind of treat them as money in the bank as they always basically sell for what I bought them for. Needs must right now. I'm in a Reggae band and need ££ for a bigger amp/cab, and try as I might I can't find a way of playing Reggae with an envelope filter!
  15. Sold. FEA Opti-FET Compressor. £150 including recorded delivery (note the issue described below - hence the lower price, they are usually >£200 second hand). This is one of the best Bass compressor pedals around. Here are some reviews: https://www.compressorpedalreviews.com/post/fea-opti-fet-compressor-review https://www.pedal-of-the-day.com/2019/06/18/fea-labs-opti-fet-compressor/ http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/optifet.shtml PLEASE NOTE: There is an issue that has happened a few times now - the yellow light which shows when it's compressing a signal occasionally (like once a week, and I use it daily) stays on full even without a signal going to it and the output cuts out completely. Click the footswitch on/off and it all goes back to working as normal. I'm not sure why this would be, perhaps a loose wire on the footswitch? Or a loose connection somewhere which gets jiggled back into place by pressing the footswitch? Or is it something optical compressors occasionally just do and they need a 'reset'? If it was my only compressor I'd take it apart to try and fix but I recently got a Fishman Platinum Pro which has a built in compressor, so I'll just stick with that rather than risking my lack of technical skills breaking anything! Also I'm raising some cash for a new Cab so need to sell a few pedals.
  16. It does look good, as an 'all-in-one' Helix alternative won't you still need a tuner though? And if it doesn't take batteries you'll need power. Considering those things I got the Fishman Platinum Pro as a backup/all-in-one. If you want something convenient to carry about which covers most of the important things then it does them well: Tuner/mute (with footswitch), boost (with footswitch), compressor, EQ (including sweepable mids and a HPF), line out and DI XLR with ground lift and pre/post switch, FX loop, analogue, and can run on battery power. No drive though, and it's quite big. It covers me for practice sessions, and if my power supply or other pedals die on me at a gig it'll cover the essential things. Zoom type multi FX things will do more FX in a cheaper and smaller size but I didn't think I would choose them as my main 'all-in-one' utility pedal for gigging: No separate DI/XLR with ground lift and pre/post, to boost isn't as obvious as the Fishman's 'boost footswitch' with a corresponding LED, need to scroll and look at a small screen to adjust things like EQ for the room, not always obvious if something has been clicked on/off in the background etc. I'd use them as a backup, or for practice sessions, or in the FX loop for effects though.
  17. I think your Preamp out > Cab sim/DI > FOH would work, or FX Loop out > Cab sim/DI > FOH (or use an ABY pedal to split your signal from the FX loop if the FX loop also needs the in). Having the Cab sim signal going into an actual Bass Cab would probably sound muffled. I've looked into getting Cab sim pedals a bit though and the more I look the less useful they seem unless you are using FRFR cab or are in a band that uses IEMs and a PA, or perhaps if you play really big venues and everything is through a PA. As you have an Amp and Bass cab that sound how you want is there much value in adding a Cab sim signal to FOH? I dunno, perhaps there is, I'm not sure there is for my uses though.
  18. I find the cheesy cliche accronym 'KISS: Keep It Simple, Stupid' (which perhaps KISS followed?!) works in many things in life - including Bass playing, 'simple' doesn't necessarily equate to 'easy' though. In the spirit of cheesy Monday morning inspiration, these sucessful dudes all back that theory up: "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" (Leonardo da Vinci) "Brevity is the soul of wit" (William Shakespeare) “Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.” And, “If you can’t explain it, you don’t understand it well enough.” (Albert Einstein) "Simplicity is the glory of expression.” (Walt Whitman) “One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple.” (Jack Kerouac) “Simplicity and repose are the qualities that measure the true value of any work of art.” (Frank Lloyd Wright) Keep it simple and focus on what matters. Don’t let yourself be overwhelmed.” (Confucius)
  19. M82s are like boomerangs, I'll probably be getting this back myself in 6 months!
  20. Sold MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter £90 (+£5 recorded delivery). Good condition and perfect working order. Boxed. Velcro on base.

  22. I love the RE-20 but it's quite a big lump of a thing so am looking forward to this: "The Japanese effects titan is rehousing its iconic tape echo and reverb in a compact pedal format. A compact, pedalboard-friendly version of Boss’s classic RE-20 Space Echo reverb and delay pedal is coming soon. The official announcement arrives hot on the heels of mounting speculation about a product leak, with some units reportedly being sold on eBay. For many players, a compact Space Echo is a dream come true, making Boss’s take on its parent company Roland’s legendary tape echo unit even more accessible. Although full details have yet to be revealed, with players asked to register for updates at the Boss website, it looks like the RE-2 will retain much of the functionality and sounds of its larger sibling. Housed in a regular Boss compact pedal format, the RE-2 can be run in mono or stereo, and has a similar control set-up, with what looks like an 11-position Mode Selector knob joined by stacked controls for Echo/Reverb, Intensity/Tone, and Repeat Rate/Wow & Flutter." https://www.musicradar.com/news/boss-re-2-space-echo

  23. Nice! 2x up, 2x down, polyphonic/monophonic, fuzz, and modulation all in one compact enclosure seems like a winner (especially as MXR make decent octavers, phasers and fuzz).
  24. I'm sure there are lots of sutuations where a compressor pedal isn't needed. Not using a compressor pedal isn't the same as not using any compression though: I don't play with a plectrum but I remember a video with Nolly Getgood saying using a soft plectrucm is basically his compression pedal (in the way that it makes the attack/volume more consistent) Amps like the ABM 600 have a compression dial Driving a tube amp adds compression Any form of drive pedal (e.g. overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedals) adds compression FOH will often add compression to the PA signal And if you're recording then the engineer adds compression, and mastering adds compression. I find a compressor pedal useful as: I don't play with a plectrum, my amp doesn't have compression dial and is a transparent class D type, I often don't use drive pedals, and ideally I'd like to fine-tune my compression (attack/release/ratio/side-chain EQ) rather than having others do too much.
