  1. The XL is now £566 at GAK, that's more reasonable. It's hard to match that cost by buying Stomp and controllers separately. .... Or the Helix Effects + Two notes torpedo cab sim adds up to about the same.
  2. Yeah I had real trouble noticing any difference so was quite pleased when it was confirmed I wasn't losing my hearing!
  3. The original Mojo Mojo switch does very little. This from talkbass: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/tc-mojomojo-bargain-for-bass.1347512/page-3
  4. A bit off topic but I like Octave into Envelope Filter but the octave tracks best with a compressor before it and envelope filter sounds best with compressor after it to tame peaks. Buying two compressors seems excessive but Helix can do it and includes 2x fx loops of separate pedals for re-routing, and can have parallel/series routing options (eg octave and filter running parallel is quite different to series) these routing options are the biggest selling points of the Helix pedals for me rather than its in built effects.
  5. I had the opposite with the EHX Bass Clone in that with certain pedal chain/loop settings there was a massive volume boost (but it was fine with others). I couldn't figure out why and no-one else has been able to explain it but I think perhaps can there be phase issues where the chorus is cancelling/augmenting....that was my theory anyway.
  6. Cheers, I'd heard of the 8 slots and threats of atomic wedgies for complaining it doesn't have the power for them but didn't know about the Y cable 2x loop thing so that does change things a bit.
  7. Anyone here with experience owning the Core yet? I'm in the market for a £400 Stomp, but GAK now have the Core at £535 so am considering if that's worth the extra. I'll be keeping a few separate pedals and would use the unit for more of the 'always on' type things (like EQ, Preamp, Amp & Cab sim, compressor) to avoid needing too much tap dancing fx on/off or additional midi control. I see Stomp has more Bass amp & cab sims but the Core has a lot more block spaces and I like the idea of more than one fx loop as I'd keep filter and synth and octave as separate pedals and have the option of putting them in different parts of the signal chain e.g. Boss core comp>separate octave pedal>Boss core EQ>separate Filter pedal>Boss core amp/cab sim Could be useful (and other options like putting the filter pedal first etc). Keeping a few separate pedals also gives that on/off fx footswitch control without needing additional midi controllers. Also, I like the additional controls on the Core, and perhaps Boss build quality going to be better. Most importantly though that's difficult to know without using it - how does it sound compared to the Stomp? There don't seem to be any YouTube comparison videos which strikes me as odd as it must be something anyone buying one or the other probably considers... a gap in the market for YouTube hits for anyone motivated enough!
  8. Another thing with the stomp downsizing: I might eventually go all out and also sell my Bass amp and cab to get an active PA speaker that the Stomp amp & cab sims would hopefully make sound good.
  9. @Naigewronis there a reason you kept the tuner on the board? Is it so that stomp switch can just be used for other things?
  10. It's fine to be used as pedal with the 1/4 jack in/outs, the usual amount of hiss that you'd get with an overdrive pedal if you turn the drive up high. I'm not sure there's actually anything wrong with the XLR either: There was a thread on TB with someone saying their XLR from their DHA hissed too much but the response was that it's a grounding issue of the thing it's going into.
  11. Cheers, yeah I fully expect that not long after I sell it I'll get the itch to buy another one in a year or so - this is my 3rd one! One was much more black than the other two so they have definitely had different paint jobs over the years but more purple = more funky (even though they sound exactly the same).

  14. Edit: Sold £100 £90 Twickenham pickup or postage at buyers cost. This is a valve/tube overdrive/preamp/EQ pedal with a 12AX7 valve, hand built in the UK and designed specifically for Bass ..if you're after tube type overdrive pedal then your best bet is to get something with one! Info from: http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/dha/vt1/eqdrive/bass#info. "The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive from DHA is a hand built valve Overdrive effects pedal which uses a 12AX7 (ECC83) preamp valve to provide true valve tone, the tone generated has to be heard to be believed! The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive is suited to bass and keyboard players looking for subtle clean to crunch valve tone for blues and rock. This new model to our VT1 range has a 3 band active EQ with mid range Q plus an XLR balanced DI out. Please check out our website for sound clips and forums such as basschat, harmony_central, talkbass and finnbass for reviews and comments. Overdrive is achieved by using both gain stages in the 12AX7EH valve/tube to generate the classic valve pre-amp overdrive tone plus a clean op-amp boost is available for extra output volume. The valve is ran at 24V DC so valve soft clipping is generated at low levels of gain and this is amplified by the valve's second stage and the selectable op-amp to provide lots of overdrive volume. This is great with modern solid state amps and fantastic with valve amps. The VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive sounds great when plugged directly into a desk or a digital recording setup via the low noise XLR balanced DI output. The Gain and Level controls let you select that tone you been looking for! And don't forget the volume and tone on your guitar which will react well with the VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive just like a real valve amp. There is a true By-Pass Foot Switch which is used to select the Overdrive and EQ part of the circuit but the DI remains on all the time. This means you can use the VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive to DI your other effects or just the bass with or without adding the VT1's valve warmth. The 3 band active EQ provides +/- 15dB of cut and boost in each range plus the mid tone control has a Q control so you can adjust the sweet spot frequency. There is a bright switch on this model which boosts the treble when selected without losing the bottom end. There is an i/p pad control which is useful when using active or high output pickups. The tone is prue valve, fat and warm and completely different to silicon effects pedals which tend to fizz and compress the signal. Unlike silicon pedals you can use the volume control on your bass to control the amount of distortion you want, just turn it up for the solo. There is a selectable boost function. This adds additional clean output volume to the valve signal using a low noise op-amp. This function is very usefull when very low levels of gain are required for clean but fat valve tones. The boost control allows the user to set the boost level. The output of the VT1-EQ-Bass-Drive is connected to a standard 1/4" jack for use with an amp and an XLR balanced DI connector which is in parallel. This means both outputs can be connected at the same time, so the 1/4" might go to the amp for the stage backline and the DI to the PA or desk. The DI is also intended for studio recording as the pedal is really a valve/tube pre-amp so will add warmth to any set up. There is a DI ground lift switch which is useful if a ground loop hum occurs." ...not many (any?) pedals will tick all these boxes for £90. Bought from here about 6 months ago with the proviso that it had some ground buzz with a certain setup, that has never been an issue for me using the in/out 1/4" jacks - but I've not used it as a DI through the XLR so that might be where the issue was (I don't have anything with an XLR input to check), or perhaps it was a grounding or power supply issue. The headphone output is quite hissy, I think that's just the way it is on all of these though. I've only used it as an effect pedal using jacks in/out for it's valve preamp /EQ/overdrive tones and it works great for that, not unusual hiss or noises. So it's being sold as what I used it for - an preamp/EQ/overdrive effect pedal using the 1/4" input/output jacks, not for using the XLR output as I can't test and guarantee the quality of that. Power supply included. My seller feedback is here https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/446834-feedback-for-sumone/?tab=comments#comment-4400336

  19. This forum is dangerous. I had no intention of getting a Stomp but now I'm considering if it's worth selling my Tuner, Compressor, EQ, DI/Preamp to fund one. Basically they are the pedals that don't need too much switching on/off and are things the Stomp does well so they can be replaced without the need of buying additional footswitches. Edit: I'm about to put 8 pedals up for sale on here to get a Stomp, I wasn't planning on doing that yesterday! I'm getting a bit addicted to buying/selling/returning pedals for very marginal gains so I'm hoping to follow in the footsteps of @javi_bassist and simplify things and get out of the habit.
  20. Yeah, I had a C4 about 6 months ago and returned it when I realised it really needed extra controls and thought the price was getting a bit much to justify it as a replacement for my octaver and filter pedals. This time around I've come to terms that it's basically at least a £325 pedal and that it won't 100% replicate my analogue octaver (octamiser) or my MXR M82 but it will get close enough and selling them will raise about £200 so it's basically £125 more to also have the Synth/Tremolo/Distortion and all the other Filter sounds etc which I figure is worth it. I'm on the fence with DMC micro vs £50 extra for the Pro, it would be useful to have preset names instead of numbers but not sure it's £50 worth when I can have a numbering system like you've got. Also, it looked to me like the Micro LED screen was a bit brighter/bigger numbers than the Pro with it's OLED writing. I figure at home it's fine to just know something like 10-19 are Filters, 20-29 are Lead synths etc. and scroll through until finding the right one, or have a sheet with them written down, and live probably using 1-9 for the most used ones cover most things so that's hopefully easy enough to remember (although I could see it being a bit risky as one number out could potentially be a completely different sound). I've ordered the micro but might exchange it it's £50 worth of hassle.
  21. Nice one. I've ordered a DMC Micro as it seems that the only additional functionality I'd be getting from the Pro version is the display showing names of presets instead of numbers. And with a bit of luck it could work like the Hub or micro gHost if I get more into midi pedals and get an MC at some point.
  22. Cheers all, I'm sure the morningstar's are great but given that even the MC3 is £189 + £105 neuro hub (or micro gHost, or building myself @AJ567 nice work, I'm not sure I'd trust my building skills! ) it's quite a big cost increase on the £99 DMC micro so I'll probably go for that, or perhaps the pro version once I've checked the differences a bit more. It would be great if it did as it's actually cheaper than the neuro hub and I could use it as a stepping stone if/when I get more midi pedals and go for something like a morningstar to control them.
  23. From this thread I gather those in the know recommend a C4 is teamed up with something like a Neuro Hub (£105) and an MC6 (£220) but £550 total (£105 + £220 + £225 for the C4) is a bit steep for me as I don't have other midi pedals that would make it more worthwhile. For just controlling a C4 (mostly just to access more presets via a footswitch, but perhaps some other controls like hold to change filter sweep up/down), The cheapest option seems to be the DMC micro at £99 and there's no need for the neuro hub but I see there is also now a DMC micro pro at £149. As far as I can tell, the pro has a better display which shows preset names instead of numbers, but other than that it doesn't look like it has features I'd need to use just controlling one C4: Controls 4x midi devices (vs 3x ), access up to 8x pages (vs 5x pages), and 'New Utility Mode Y page adds additional user-defined commands or use as looper control mode'. So in my case is it basically be £50 more to be able to see preset names rather than numbers, or am I missing something?
  24. I guess it's cheating a bit but Helix Stomp + Source Audio C4 + midi controller would cover almost everything, but if I was being fussy to just get my core sound then I'd need DHA VT1 EQ + FEA Opti-FET compressor + Bass Simplifier. I've tried to replicate the sound I get from them with a Helix Effects and C4 before but they didn't quite do it, it's a subtle difference though.
