not sure if I'm appropriately qualified to join this band
try telling that to social justice warriors
I will if you want. You can't have a boy band with a girl in it. It wouldn't be a boy band. If I went to a strip club to see naked ladies, I'd not be very pleased to see a bunch of blokes. -
To be fair, it's impossible to say from the advert why they want what they do.
I think it's pretty clear. They don't want a heterosexual man. -

Are you a non-binary person? It sounds very much like they don't want any Alpha males wading in and messing up the vibe. -
There are different types of charity gig. 1. Everyone's time is given for free and the only things that are taken out of the money raised is hall hire, advertising, food and ticket printing. All the rest is given to the small local charity. In this case, yes, sell tickets, everyone is in it together. 2. Profits go to charity. As above but 'costs' can include silver service waiters, bar staff, organisers beer fund and hotel accommodation etc. Profits go to a huge faceless tax efficient front. In this case play the gig for money and donate what your conscience feels out of your fee. There's charity and there's charity. 3. Something in between.

Personally I thought it was quite nice to finally receive an email from the Basschat headmaster that wasn't an invitation to stand outside his office and wait for a caning.
Hmmmm....useful information folks all. Thanks I'll keep using Imgur while I can - it really is splendid when it's working properly - but maybe will try Flikr out as a second option, albeit heeding the comment about Yahoo! I'm not too bothered ref the actual storage of any photos I haven't posted in threads - I still use the old fashioned hard disk and regular backups, but more for easily posting pics on sites like this with direct links and with a reasonable confidence they won't mysteriously disappear unless and until I want them too.
In that case either Dropbox, Google drive, or iCloud would work fine.

Are we going to compile this list so that we can argue over the order.

You can never second guess an audience. Some tunes that work with one lot don't work with another lot. It's painful if you're playing with musicians who have no ability to stop a song at an appropriate place. Playing a 13 minute ABBA opus medley is bad enough without having to do it to an empty dance floor.

Are You Gonna Go My Way. Great song to listen to, great song to play, audiences hate it.

It was similar in the 90s. Lots of pubs moved to discos. Karaoke has never really gone away. I think any decent pub will rotate, Kareoke, Disco, Classic Rock (or other band), Soloist with guitar/backing track. Keeps things interesting and doesn't overload the punters with bands playing the same tunes.

I think you have to be careful when pushing the mids. You only need a touch to get some definition in the sound. To much and it becomes very weary for people to listen to. I was watching a band a couple of years ago and the bass was punishing in the mid frequencies, nothing in the bass, at the break I asked him to adjust it a bit, which he did (he was actually quite grateful, as I would be as we often have no idea what the audience can hear) and it sat much better in the mix.

Stop Nuisance Neighbours Closing Venues Petition
Its a bit like people moving to a rural area and complain the church bells and cockerals are waking them up
It really depends on the context which is why a blanket law is a bad idea. If you move next to a church you expect to hear bells on a Sunday morning between 9:30 and 12:00, and on a Saturday afternoon for weddings and one evening a week for bell practice. If you move next to a farm that has a cockerel that's one thing, if your neighbour decides to keep chickens because they live in the countryside that's a completely different matter. You have a duty not to be a nuisance to your neighbours. Pubs used to close at 11pm, a band playing 21:00-23:00 once a week is acceptable. Playing until midnight or later begins to be a nuisance and if you can hear the music inside your house with the windows closed that's unacceptable. Again if it's a music venue like a nightclub, that's different. -
Although I did play an 80s pointy headstock Jackson Charvel in a function band. It just looked wrong to me in the photos.

Yes. I played with a bad drummer for 10 years and thought it was my playing at fault.
FWIW I am the buyer. And these are the strings. http://i.imgur.com/8K18FrD.jpg I have bought every single bass I have ever owned used and have never encountered a set as dead rubbery and useless. I'm a considerate ebayer and went so far as to buy from Jamie direct to save him ebay fees. So I was understandably a bit miffed to receive a bass with undisclosed finish wear and gross strings, simply because I would never sell a bass in such a manner without being fully honest about such things.
In future, when buying, to avoid disappointment, ask for lots of close up photos so you are sure what you are buying is what you want. You may risk annoying the seller, but if they really want a sale and are genuine they'll be happy to do this. Or they'll sell it to someone else. YMMV.

I have the 400 version of this: https://www.andertons.co.uk/p/SR500BM/electric-basses/ibanez-sr500-bass-in-brown-mahogany?LGWCODE=SR500BM;56375;6335&gclid=CjwKEAiA79zDBRCgyf2FgeiY-CESJABzr0BM0XaOcyFB5zLPxsytRJCd4efxisgNLZVRs_yoE9V5XBoCnIjw_wcB No one has ever said anything. But then I'm so awesome most people are looking at me, not the bass. .

I bought Rockit on12" vinyl when it first came out and promptly never heard of him again until a few years ago. I didn't appreciate exactly who we was. Think it's in the garage somewhere. It's not particularly funky but has a great groove and is probably his most famous number.

Is it possible to use a single mic front centre of stage to feed a very rough overall backline stage mix of the band into the IEMs? Seems it would be less hassle than micing/DIing and subsequent mixing of the whole band.
Not really the point he was making.. everyone else provides stuff needed to gig with.. I've seen friends bands where the singer rocks up late with just an sm58:-)
Our singer has never rocked up late. He's always there bang on 5minutes before we go on. Gives his SM58 to the guitarist to plug in, music stand to me to set up and goes straight to the bar. I think leaving the PA for him to sort out wouldn't be the best idea.
-
Agree a hire rate with the two who own the PA. They transport, maintain and store it. If anything goes wrong (fair wear and tear) with the PA they then fix it out of their own pocket. Keep it simple. .
Has no one mentioned... Say 500W amp into one 8 ohm 4x10 =350W(ish) delivered to the cab... 500W amp into 2 2x10 8 ohm cabs = 500W delivered to the cabs... Doesn't the old maxim of more cabs to deliver more volume not more watts? Or have I missed something. OK, there are load of variables at play but given equivalent speakers/efficiency etc would 2 8 ohm 2x10 be louder than 1 8ohm 4x10?
You're comparing apples to oranges. 4x16ohm speakers is either a 4ohm 4x10 or a 4ohm total 2x2x10. An 8ohm 4x10 would use different impedance speakers.
Yes, but current music was being played in the pubs....it isn't now from what I see. The odd track, yes, but two sets of it?
Que: The rise of the female vocalist with pa and backing tracks.
I use 2 Hartke Hydrive 210 cabs , stacked horizontally , great sound , easy to transport plenty of power handling....spot on !
Have you tried them stacked vertically? It makes a big difference.
