1.
wouldn't surprise me if Lee Pomeroy jumped on the wagon, he's been Wakemans touring bassist for years.
Plus the It Bites connection. Although he was playing parts already written.
 2. Welcome to the curse of the musician. Bass players however, tend to make better producers because we/they are often better at understanding what is going on in the overall picture, even if we don't hear it as a single sound.
 3.
The inference is there, a frequent inference on many threads in Off Topic and General Discussion. And I don't need you telling me I'm too sensitive, keep it to your self.
4.
I know you are a legendary bassist, but yet another one with the demeaning patronising comments. WHY IS MY OPINION RIDICULOUS AND SHORT SIGHTED, yet yours is so blindingly right? Don't bother to answer, it's rhetorical, I won't be back up here. Too many "I'm right, you are an idiot for having a different opinion" now frequent this forum.
You're too sensitive. Don't think he's calling you an idiot.
 5.
It's an attitude that seems, to me, to be uniquely British. Thankfully, in most other countries, if a band has a good live reputation, or releases a great album, then yer foreign punter, regardless of lineup or age, will be interested. Not so here! We prefer our bands in their "heyday", after that, they should go away and retire gracefully! Most bands of a certain age and a developing lineup, while aware of their "heyday", will still think they have something to say and hope that enough people will want to hear it. To say that bands like Yes, The Who, Deep Purple etc should knock it on the head is, frankly, ridiculous and short sighted.
The stereotypical Brit doesn't like change. Go to Spain for your holiday, even emigrate. So long as you can get fish and chips and The Sun.
 6. Dear Dr Fatuous, Having read the above post and quoted below for completeness, I am now concerned I may may owe some royalties to Rich and also some kind of intermediary fee. So. Sue me. Yours, Norbert Panhandle.
Dear Mr Mrs Ms or Miss Fatuous Delete Where Appropriate, I was thinking of ordering the 'Thinking about drinking flat champagne out of a plastic glass in a special VIP area while thinking about Kanye West' package. Is there a 'Thinking about ordering the Thinking about drinking flat champagne out of a plastic glass in a special VIP area while thinking about Kanye West package' package, and does this mean that I have effectively bought it? Is there a 'Rethinking the thinking about ordering the Thinking about drinking flat champagne out of a plastic glass in a special VIP area while thinking about Kanye West package package' package, and does this mean that I have effectively bought it? 7.
Isn't the whole point of prog to progress (even if some of the fans want you to remain in a timewarp and stick to what they feel was the bands best lineup & stylistic output)?
Good point. Seemed to work for Genesis. Ah. No wait...
 8.
The Who are different as in Pete Townshend is the creative person in the band. That is probably why they survived. The bands that you were in that imploded are probably totally different from these professional bands, as they could probably employ people to write for them. There would be loads of bass players wanting to fill Geddy Lee`s shoes if they decide to carry on. Whether it would work, i am not sure.
I think you're agreeing with me there while appearing to disagree. Remove the major creative element of the band and you don't have a band.
 9. The big question you have to ask is: Is Yes Chris Squire's backing band? Was Queen Freddie Mercury's backing band? Is Rush Geddy Lee's backing band? If not, how much creative input do the other members bring to the table. The recent Prog series on Radio 2 shed some light on the creative processes behind King Crimson and Yes. I don't think Yes can continue in a similar way that Rush and Queen cannot continue as they are/were without those key elements. I'm sure many of us have been in band writing partnerships where one member has left and shortly after the band implodes due to a lack of cohesion in the writing process. The Who seem to have managed fairly well. It's just different.
 10. Fair enough, but it's still about the money and the big acts even if the money goes somewhere more deserving.
 11. Maybe as we get older we tend to have seen it all before. The young lady on the Kanye thread seemed to think he was awesome. Maybe she's right, we're just old men harking back to our lost youth. It definitely feels like it when I suggest some up to date music for our band and the singer looks blankly and says he's never heard of them.
 12.
Having been born in 1977 also, and having just had my 38th birthday, I refute your maths And my right as a middle-aged white man to be pedantic on the internet. I for one, didn't enjoy Kanye's performance, however, lots of people who were there didn't leave, so I think they probably did. I wrote this about moaning about festival lineups for festivals you are not attending the other day though, seems pertinent to stick it here... http://davedoesntwriteanythingever.blogspot.com/2015/06/things-on-internet-that-will-never.html
Very entertaining. To be honest Glastonbury is too big now to be all about new music. A massive festival costs masses of money which means people want to see big names for their money, the big names want the big money and the price rises accordingly. As musicians I'm sure we're all playing our own low cost local festivals with our own home grown local heroes headlining in front of their mates, girlfriends (and proud mums and dads)
 13.
My experience spans over 30 years, over a decade of which was working has a professional sound engineer. I have engineered anything from small venues to large outdoor events, during that time I was notching up over 200 jobs a year. I am well aware of my bad spelling, grammar and punctuation it is a problem I have had all my life but I fail to see how it is any way an indication that I may not have the skills or the intelligence to be a competent and professional sound engineer. I am now retired from live music because of a heart condition but despite my health and my poor English skills I still managed to get a first class hon’s degree in music technology. Maybe I should bow down to your greater knowledge and experience and clearly better punctuation.
That's fine. Just your previous post probably makes some very good points but I just can't read or understand it. I did add a smiley. I didn't mean to cause offence just wanted you to rewrite your post so I could read and understand it. I assumed it was auto corrected by your phone
 14. So are we looking for someone in their 20s who is going to be considered a legend in 20-30years time? Good luck with that. I suppose the closest we've had recently was Amy Winehouse.
 15. Ironside. You might want to read that over, edit the spelling, grammar, punctuation and paragraphing. It's very difficult to understand. I hope your mixing skills are better Personally as long as I can hear the guitar and vocals there's not a great deal that can go wrong with on-stage sound. I've really never had an issue that wasn't fixed by asking for a bit more of X in the monitor. I think the worst experience I've had is when the bass amp has bled into the kick drum mic. and the engineer hasn't identified it. Live sound is all about experience and I think introducing yourself and talking to the sound engineer as soon as you arrive is key.
 16. This will be the Kanye West born in 1977 who is 39years old? Raised in a middle class household in Chicago. .
 17. Does seem a bit strange. If you're continually coming into contact with sound engineers who can't get a decent sound from your band it's probably time to look at the common factor.
 18.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNkPn0JrTFQ WT actual F. Is this real?
He looks a bit shiftily at the camera when he realises he's forgotten the words.
 19.
+1. Of course you won't like it if it's hip hop. I have never had a conversation with a middle aged white bloke about Kanye... or even classic hip hop (DMC/PE etc.)
Sorry. I'm a white middle aged guy. I grew up in the 80s/90s, the formative years of Hip Hop. What I heard last night was NOT hip hop. Obviously he has fans but Glastonbury is no longer the place for a specialist artist to perform. Especially as it's now become a Mecca for middle aged marketing consultants. .
 20.
Some singers with very, dodgy intonation, have gone on to fame and fortune in the past. Simon Le Bon and Sade are two that instantly come to mind.
I agree. Far too much reliance on autotune means we have forgotten what real live singers actually sound like. I suspect people in the live audience wouldn't notice. I thought she was away with the fairies.
 21. I like hip hop. Was that hip hop? I thought it was more like RnB.
 22.
Twitter has just about melted and it's mainly positive.
That's what happens when you follow people with the same tastes as you. You get a biased view. My Twitter feed has also melted. But not positively. I watched two numbers. I didn't understand it. It's obviously some kind of high art but doesn't appeal to me.
 23. Lemmy has been very ill for quite a while. Florence was high as a kite. Glastonbury was summed up very well last year by Bruce Dickinson when he said Maiden would never play there.
