1. Yes. I think that's what I would have done had it been me and I'd been asked. Unfortunately it's not, I've just been drafted in to do the recording
2.
Should've thought of/asked him sooner, he made a fantastic cable for me last year.
Genuinely LOL.
3.
No, you weren't. Nice attempt at revisionism though.
Hmmm.
Me neither, but they must be in somebodies band, or else who are all these guitarist gripes based on? Surely not just hearsay and rumour?
4.
OBBM made me one to my measurements.
I can't believe it took 3hours for this suggestion to be made. We're slacking. OBMM is a forum member who makes bespoke cables. Very well as I understand.
5.
Ahhh... then presumably they want it to be as much like the original as possible..? Cannot the original be used for the purpose?
No. They don't want it to be like the original, hence the recording.
6. Funnily enough on a thread last month I was told in no uncertain terms that this kind of drummer (and guitarist) no longer exist. .
7. In this instance it's just a cover of an exsisting song.
8. What pitfalls have you come across when writing/recording for someone else? I recently recorded some music of a friend playing. He had been asked to record a song for someone to be used at an event. The third party gave a very loose description of what they wanted. My friend played well and the recording is fine but it's "Not quite what they wanted." There's no money involved but we're looking at possibly re-recording it - maybe 2-3 hours of messing about. But still don't have a firm idea of what exactly they want. The event is this coming weekend! .
9. Given the original post is two years old now, it's amazing that in that time no one has surpassed his abilities...
10. Yes he was. Bass players never get any coverage. No one knows what we do!
11. I have one of these. Zoom RT. There's one on ebay for £50. https://youtu.be/rRQRo0y2WCQ
12. Buying and selling is all about trust. Sometimes there's just something about a buyer or a seller that doesn't feel right and either party is free to walk away. In trying to give away a trampoline for free! The guy who wanted it has been a complete pain. I'm listing it again and not dealing with him.
13. If you're also looking at tritones you might be only considering pairs that make up 3rds and flattened 3rds in the A string and 5ths and aug5ths on the D string. But that may be restricting it too much.
14. You can't have 5x5x5 possibilities. As that would imply that you have 15 tones. There are only 12 so there must be tones used twice. Possibly you could have 12x5x4x3 If including octaves. Otherwise you'd have 12x4x3x2 = 288.
15. Why don't you just list the overtones on each string so you have three sets nG, nD, nA where n is the number of tones in each set. The total number of chordal tones will be 12 x nA x nD x nG. Only a limited number of them will be traditional western chords. I don't see a mathematical solution to this you'll just have to solve it by brute force.

17.
Careful now, that's sounding dangerously like common sense...
Sorry. On second thoughts it might impinge on people's freedom to use ALL CAPS and "unique opportunity of a lifetime to purchase rare" etc...
18. It would be better if people used single ads for each item and described the item using generic terms in the same logical order for each post title. Maybe a sticky with example format for subject title might help. Eg Type - make - model - year - colour 4string Fender Jazz 1977 red Would make scanning through a lot more simple and searching easier.
19. Aren't we talking about a very specific circumstance here? Where the band has all the gear and no idea. And we as bass players who have many years of experience just sit there and think how awful it is. Then we go home and complain on a Bass forum to anyone who'll listen. Just seems all a bit backwards to me. If I've got the skills to help and advise someone who is struggling, I'll always help. That's the kind of guy I am. I've done it before and I'll do it again. Most bands on the pub circuit have a very basic PA. We're not talking about racks of compressors and multiple mixes of in ear monitors and parametric EQ. With multiple PA amps and arrays of speakers. You'll be looking at some microphones, a mixer, an amp and some speakers.
20. If anyone competes in any musical field (brass band, dance ect) they'll be used to receiving a critique of their performance. Critiques from judges can vary immensly on the same performance. Take x-factor for example. Whatever you think of the program it's a good example of how different people will be looking at different aspects of your performance. Certain aspects will be obvious to the lay person, and some will be undetectable to anyone who has never been in a band and found themselves giving that sideways ("wtf is going on") look across at the drummer. Criticism is always opinion.
21. Looking at these pictures, it's clearly not the shorts that are a problem. Middle aged man rarely looks good in anything, especially badly tailored ill fitting shorts. Some guys can look good in anything - some can't.
22.
Don't forget to breathe and relax.
Seriously. Pay attention to your breathing. As said above, there's no proven cause of cramp. I get cramp in three situations. 1. Stress - I find myself holding my breath. 2. Swimming - in my calf and foot - repetitive exercise that I'm not used to. 3. Middle of night after a long run - muscle spasm due to overuse. I think cramp is too general a term with many causes.
23. I think before you offer criticism you should ask yourself whether you're qualified to make that criticism. And if you're not; whether that criticism is because something is wrong or whether the critisicm is because you just don't like what they're doing and would do it differently if it were you. Then remind yourself - it isn't you doing it. .
24. From what I've read, he didn't like his tone either. Spent thousands of pounds and years of searching and never got it right. I think what he meant by bass guitarist was playing the bass primarily as a guitar with melodic style rather than bass or harmonies as most of us do. I've had discussions with guitarists over what part they're trying to play when we've covered who songs. At least two of them have wanted to double the bass part leaving no rhythm part.
