Yes. Stack them vertically one on top of the other with the label the right way up and the feet at the bottom. So you have a two cones wide by four cones high configuration. They're not ideal anyway because you'll have two speakers side by side which will cause combing. From an audience point of view the bass will get louder and quieter and louder again as you walk across the hall. Putting the cabs side by side will give you much more bottom end but you'll not be able to hear the mids because the higher frequencies will be beamed past your knees. Coupled with the increased bass it'll sound awful. I use 2 2x10s so I have one cone wide and four cones high. Sounds great.
... The reasons that made me spit out my dummy have nothing to do with the WPD epic but were caused by two antagonistic members who did not / would not see further than the ends of their noses in any discussion. I actually met one in real life and he came across to me as being as arrogant and cutting as he did with some of his OT topics and posts on here. Rather than ignore him and his views I argued, got nowhere, was wound up and publicly stated that I was off. ... So I am now sitting back, watching and keeping quiet. I will keep well clear of OT, I will not post anything that I think of being humorous and stick to commenting with what I know to be fact. ...
That's a real shame. OT isn't that bad. At least I don't think it is. We all seem to get on quite well from what I can see. There's the odd strange comment and disagreement but don't think there's any lasting feuds going on.
If you think that Facebook members are all using their really names and the photos are of themselves then I'm afraid you sadly mistaken. There is nothing stopping anyone starting a Facebook account using any name and and image they choose. If Basschat decided that your user name had to be your real name and your avatar had to be your photo how could they tell that the information you has supplied was real? Besides in a community where a great number of the members are easily identifiable through the bands they perform in, having a silly user name and avatar doesn't afford much anonymity.
Nope. I've met pretty much everyone in my groups and friends. And they are all who they say they are.
It's an interesting point made about alternative social media and if it becomes the standard practice in future for like minded folks with common interests to use stuff like facebook groups then ultimately the days of internet fora will be numbered. I think we're a way off that yet though.
I'm on several FB groups. You have an admin who can delete stuff and PM people but the big difference is there are a lot of meet ups and everyone uses their real name. Here there are many people I'm unlikely to ever meet and if I did I would meet them under their real name, not an alias. Do away with forum aliases and make avatar a photo I your face and a lot of the animosity (if there is that much) would disappear overnight.
It was me who posted "relax people". As far as I can see - and not only on this thread - there are a lot of people on this forum getting worked up about stuff that generally isn't all that important at the end of the day. Everyone has opinions, not always ones that will agree with everyone else, but some people seem too quick to jump on the offended bus at the first opportunity. Really is one of the reasons why I generally don't post on here as often as I would otherwise as I can't be ar$ed with the potential fall out from someone taking umbrage to my posts.
Ah. Ok. To be honest, I think when I first came here I was a lot less selective which posts I read. I used to read nearly every new post. I'm a lot more selective now and can usually gauge which threads could be contentious and don't bother reading them. Unless something reaches 2 or 3 pages and that contradicts what I thought of it through reading the title, then I might have a read. Otherwise I just read posts that look interesting. There's enough of us here to keep the forum lively without us all answering the ohms question.
That is my impression too. He pissed me off a few times with badly timed posts that were in bad taste, usually in threads of a "sensitive" nature... But hey - not everyone takes life seriously!
I'm guessing this is the most frequent problem amongst posters. Someone posted "Relax, people" above. I'm not sure who it's aimed at. As far as I feel this thread is just an easy conversation. In fact most of my posts are like that. I do wonder what is going though people's minds when they post strange comments. It's very difficult not to upset people who are looking for something to be upset about. As far as Wayne goes, he gave up work to stay at home to look after his young child. I can't imagine his posts where all done after a good nights sleep in an easy focussed frame of mind. That all I'll say on the matter.

It really depends on the band 'dynamic'. I've been in a band where I would expect the drummer to pay for hire of the kit. I've 'been in a band' where I've expected to pay for a rehearsal but the guys told me I was a dep so not to pay. I've been in a band where the band leader has paid. I've been in a band where the band 'treasurer' has collected our split down to the last penny. Very interesting dividing £40 out of a 7 piece. I've been in a band where if a member can't make the rehearsal we still met and they still had to pay (Not my descision!) I think if this thread is directed at a situation you have found yourself in and you or others feel you are being taken advantage of then you should ask the drummer to pay. It's all about getting on together and that's a two way thing.
... They don't know about the last bit, of course. That's not in the plan.
That's only due to a lack of a sarcasm emoticon.
I quite agree! No need for anyone to wade in and point out that a thread on a particular subject was started by Bassfart in 2009.
I think that's another example of odd language. How can you wade in to a forum discussion?
Yep. I've seen more aggression in a busy tea-rooms.
Quite. On one forum I said something that upset a feminist guardian reader. I still have no idea what I said that upset her but she marked my cards and then kept up her aggressive posts towards me on countless other threads. It was quite amusing. Well, I thought so. .
Ok, membership around 32k, most of whom are inactive so some reports would typically say that 75% of a site content comes from less than 10% of active members..?? so I'd say that looking at the post count of missing members is possibly significant . Not really wishing to stir anything up so much as i'd be pretty concerned about key or worthwhile posters going missing in such a short space of time. It doesn't matter so much what opinions they have as long as they have them and post, IMO..in a reasonable way. It is the lifeblood of a forum.
It depends on how much they're creating and how much they're just answering questions that someone else would have answered. Many times I've gone to answer something only to find it's already been answered by a prolific poster. Gaps open and are filled by new people. That's evolution.

There you go. Pretty much evidence that some people read some things one way and others differently. I completely missed that.
Funny to read this...I'm not one of the regular posters but I still enjoy reading here from time to time (it's good for my English :-)) The fact that people have the perception things have "changed" is striking since on the Dutch bass-forum (where I go to a lot) the same arguements as here appear (people disappear, heavy discussions which get really personal, etc..) Apparently it's not restricted to bass-chat but something which pops up everywhere more and more people get together Edit : I suddenly see that I am a Very Advanced Member, wow ! :-)
Yes. Apparently there is a well known cycle that forums go through. I've not even heard of some of the people in that list and I've been here a few years.
Patronise is a verb, a 'doing' word. It means 'to treat with an apparent kindness that betrays a feeling of superiority'.
Well I certainly don't feel superior to anyone. As I say I think it's all in the eye of the beholder and I can't be responsible for the way people wish to perceive things in what I have written that aren't meant.
so who are the highest posting members (not mods) now? I see Happy Jack's at 7,824 - that must be top four?! I'm trying to get into the playoffs for division 2.
I'm only 7204. Although the search shows 2400+. Looking at that list there are only a few missing. I don't think it's as bad as it looks.

Do you/your band rehearse with full gigging set-up?
TimR replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
... for rehearsal, as our viewpoint is we are always rehearsing for gigs, and if we`re writing new material we want to start off hearing it as we want it presented when it`s finished/ready to be unveiled. ...
No. Whenever I have been involved in writing material it's been done in a quiet environment, maybe no drums and no vocal PA. Guitars and bass amped but low. That's not really a rehearsal in my book though. I have several different definitions for musical settings; writing, learning, practicing, running through and rehearsing are all different things. -
Reading the names in this thread of posters gone and temporarily forgotten by me just makes me really f***ing sad. Another for the list: TheFunk, who appears to have been redacted entirely. Now we're just left with idiots like me and TimR. I'm surprised we made it this long.
People come and go. I think the 'problem' if there is one is that there are some posters who will happily take people to task over things they write that are clearly wrong. I'm not talking about a difference of opinion, I'm talking about when rigorously tested facts are completely ignored because it doesn't fit into the way they'd like things to be. There are others watching who agree but tend to stay out of the debate for one reason or another. I tend not to argue based on my opinions, I recognise they're opinions, that's why we steer clear of religious and political debate. There's also been a big clampdown on those type of threads where a lot of the absent posters used to start debate. So maybe they've just drifted off to have those debates elsewhere. There's only so much bass stuff you can talk about.

The problem with the written word is that you don't always get the emotion or subtext that the writer intended and can easily superimpose your own emotional state into what has been written. I was accused of being 'patronising' the other day. How on earth can you write in a patronising way? Certainly a lot of discussions I had in OT have seemed like deliberate trolling with one or two posters seemingly keeping 'debate' going just for fun by playing devils advocate. It's easy to get drawn into these topics. A lot of those type of topics always reverted to the posters twisting the subject on to their own pet subjects. Which became a bit boring. Also, with some posters seemingly being here all the time, what is just lively discussion between people who hold opposing views, can be seen by others, who maybe aren't here so often, as quite aggressive arguments between the same old posters. If I've ever been involved in a proper 'argument', I think maybe two or three times since I've been here, we sorted it by PM when we realised things were getting confused. And usually it was just confusion. People leaving? Maybe some people felt that their friendly discussions were being seen by others as unfriendly arguments? There was a lot of heavy modding going on a few months back. Some of it I couldn't see why. Or maybe I've just got a very extremely think skin PS. OT posts don't count in the post totals.
... I'm not sure if I'm just indoctrinated to soul and funk or the music just isn't that good. the real feeling i get is that the music just doesn't inspire me to play. sometimes it does with certain songs, but only in parts. maybe I'm answering my own question. the band is drums, guitar x 2 and bass. i tried to introduce this guy who is a keys master, and i got a 'no, not now maybe later". i just want some chords behind the music. I'm talking Billy Preston type stuff. ...
You need to identify which tunes are inspiring you and why. Maybe it's tunes that the rhythm guitarist is playing sustained chords under. Something that frees you up a bit. Maybe it's what the drummer is doing. Two guitars and a keys player? Good luck with that! I played in a band with two guitarists I 'had' to make changes to what they were playing. Often they were doubling up but not good enough to be even close to each other. It sounded awful and pointless.
Cheers for this Tim...I've been trying to find somewhere to rehearse in St Albans with little success. The only thing I can find is The Pioneer which charges £20ph...sent the details to drummer and guitarist.
Mill Hill Music Complex might be good as well if any of your guys travel out from London on an evening. Although I haven't been there for over ten years. I used their bass cabs and if I found a problem when we went in I just asked them for a swap. They used to lend amps out so had a few lying round. They're still going. That means something.
A previous band I was in used to rehearse at Magnet in Nottingham. Normally it was a great place with decent gear, although we only ever used the PA in the room and brought all our own drums and backline. However one day we had reasonably well known local band Six By Seven in the room next to ours. They were so loud that we could hear them over the top of all but the most raucous parts of our songs. In the end we gave up and went home as we simply couldn't hear what we were doing well enough for the rehearsal to be of any use.
You should have gone in and spoken to them about your Four By Two project. 😄

It's amazing what a little bit of advertising does. We've played gigs with no posters up but I've heard people, who've been walking past while we were loading in, say they would come back. And I've seen them in the audience. These are people who would have walked past and stayed in another pub all night. Top tip, take your own easel and posters, turn up around 6pm and put it up outside pub. You'll get a lot of 'passing trade'.

Does no one check out the studio and have a walk round before they book? My locals (Hertford/Welwyn area) are: FarmFactory Graphic Nature The Practice Roomz Although I don't think I've been to any in at least 5-6 years now. Probably longer.
