  2. I went to see Nicko Mc McBrain a few years ago at a similar type of thing. It was very good. He was promoting his signature drum kit. A few people asked him questions. The one that upset him most was "When are Iron Maiden going to get back to writing good sings like in the old days?" at which point he was about to come into the crowd and thump the guy who asked it. So I just hope that no one asks the "Are you going to tour with Alex at any point in the near future?". Aside from Alex suffering from arthritis in his hands, Geddy can't sustain his singing for long. Barbican would be my close one and its a small enough venue (under 2000 seats) to be intimate enough to be interesting and you might get a chance to talk to him.
  3. There is productive time and non productive time. Many people would opt for sitting on the beach time, effectively writing songs that no one wants to listen to. They're being paid for by the people sitting around watching carrots grow.
  4. Universal wage needs 2 things. 1. Productive labour. 2. Ability to reward those who work more/harder in some way. If there aren't enough people being productive, you run put of resources.
  5. Something that requires a large amount of input and research will only ever be possible if you can recover those costs. A good recent example is the Coronavirus vaccine. If you stop companies from making money from innovation then they won't invest any time in innovation. Effectively, all the hours spent on writing songs that aren't successful have to be paid for by someone. Where does the money come from?
  6. So if you write a song that everyone buys, you get extra?
  7. Low pass filters on all mics. Use the AUX for monitors, not 'monitor' output which tends to be a mono of your main FOH mix. A small amount of kick and (if you have them) overheads, together with a small amount of guitar in the mains will get you a more balanced sound FOH, rather than trying to balance everything using backline. Not for boosting drum or guitar volume, just for evening out the spread, you can then have quieter on stage volume. Good luck.
  8. PRS seem to be more concerned with getting money from venues who have background music and are playing original recordings to the public. Shops, gyms, etc. And presumably radio stations with huge reach that they can charge more for. The venue will be charged an annual fee based on type of establishment rather than for each song performed so I can't see it being cost effective for anyone to be getting setlists from bands and them retyping and submitting lists.
  9. As someone who hires a space, PRS won't talk to us. They say tbe responsibility for the Music Licence lies with the owner of the venue.
  10. I think in this case "Pro rata" just means equal share to everyone. Not proportionally according to input. So all the money gets paid into a pot each year and every musician registered with PRS gets a %age of that pot each year.
  11. Faulty arc lights can cause interference for miles. We had a guy appear in the village one night with an aerial and some instrumentation looking for the source of some problems. Turned out it was a light on a farm 3 miles away!
  12. The bank has said it is an APP. They're not going to go into detail into how it was done. We don't need to know how it was done, they will refuse to say how it is done as that could give potential fraudsters ideas how to get around their systems.
  13. You've been caught in an authorised payment push scam. The bank have told you this and refunded your money. That's the end of the story. They are not going to explain how it works, or who did it. Even alleged criminals have protection until proved guilty. Plus the bank could be potentially giving away their security processes. Frustrating but that's the way it works.
  14. I went to a gig on Saturday where the band used Dice. Was OK but was quite insistent on downloading their APP amd signing up to membership. https://dice.fm/partners/ticketing/live?lng=en Although the door had our names down so producing the email and ID would have been sufficient.
  15. New toy... Will review soon for anyone interested.
  16. Unfortunately mostly myth. You don't want graphite a woodshavings floating around in space capsule and you don't want ink floating around either. Mostly they used felt tip pens until Fisher independently developed a presurisd pen. So NASA spent no money inventing a pen. But like all these ideas "Why don't we fit a switch?" Probably because someone fitted a switch at some point and found actually it was less faff to just unplug when you've finished playing, like most people do anyway.
  17. I have a silent tuner. Just hit that first. Or press mute on the amp. As you'd have to do when you remove the lead. I'm not sure what the purpose of the switch would be.
  18. That is an extremely simple modification to do yourself. Drill hole. Fit switch. Cut the red wire to the battery and solder the cut ends to the switch terminals.
  19. Sounds like a few of us post the 'a bit rough round the edges' bits because it makes us look more human or at least a bit humble. Well, that's what we hope. 😆 Think it's called humble-bragging. What I absolutely loathe is the "Something really bad is happening in my life..." posts, with no context, followed by a bunch of people saying "they're here for you". But then I'm a man of a certain age. Got a problem call a mate, don't stick it on Facebook fishing for attention. Anyway - I'm more interested in the musical side, thats why I put it in General. 👍😎
  20. I'm only really asking because some of our rehearsals are pretty poor. Bad notes, out of tune vocals etc. The usual stuff that happens in rehearsals. I don't think anyone should be subject to that. It takes away a bit of the magic and if people do hear it and think I'm not going to see them, it's counter-productive. It's certainly a strange animal.
  21. What kind of content do they put up. Is it carefully managed by a band leader or just whatever anyone likes?
  22. I honestly think non-musicians don't know the difference. At least they probably make allowances. I guess a lot of my friends who come to see the band aren't necessarily there because we are awesome (although of course we are), it's more because it's a good social event with live music. When I was 17, we'd get practically the whole school along to a pub gig, I can't belive they all liked rock. That would have been through word of mouth and photocopied hand drawn flyers. My gut feeling was they loved to see mates in a band and were able say "I know the bass player" etc. Let's face it, to anyone who can't play an instrument it all appears extremely highly skilled and magical. Maybe it is and we have done it for so long we take it for granted.
  23. Totally agree. And who wants to go on facebook to look at the mundane?
  24. The subject of Social Media being not a true representing of what's going on in people's real lives. Influences borrowing supercars for photo shoots etc. Music Videos have always been produced to show the band having a lifestyle they probably don't have. Wham's Club Tropicana is a great example of that. So it's not new. On my personal fb feed I'm quite balanced at laughing at my failures and downplay my successes. Our band page is a strange animal. Some great professional photos mixed in with some very dubious hand held phone footage of the band in rehearsals wearing casual clothes etc. So do you have a highly crafted website and social media feed where everything his highly photoshopped, videos edited and only studio quality recordings to show a highly polished outfit, or do you just put up any old photos and videos? Or somewhere in between.
