  1. 0.8amps at 12V is tiny. Stick it into any amp repair shop and they'll fix your issue and fit a replacement. 9.6 VA (Watts) must be preamp. I think you're overthinking this. A transformer is a transformer. Basic component.
  2. Or maybe get a company to custom build one.
  3. Does the company actually still exist? A decent engineer should be able to run the amp up on a temporary supply and determine what it uses on full load and size a transformer to suit and at the same time determine why the other ones were failing.
  4. I'm sure he will have a watertight contract that says he will just provide a band. When I was married we just went with the house DJ. I wanted a band, but was overruled. 😆 To be fair, it's very difficult to find a band who play tonnes of modern tracks but aren't cheesy and can play for potentially a few hours.
  5. What is special about the transformer? You just need to know the rating and the output voltage and you can replace it with something else. That should be marked on it somewhere as VA.
  6. It's weird. A lot of people have a lot of money and a lot of people have no money. It's not just gigs. It's lots of activities. Getting people out to anything is hard. I think the people who have found something else to do, have found subscriptions to TV streaming and box sets. My friends are always talking about this box set, that box set. My wife seems glued to the TV. I hardly watch it, I'm out most nights and most days during the weekend. I can't bear sitting at home not doing something. Online shopping and delivery takeaways means less eating out and trips to the shops. People are working from home. Some people have started to become hermits. Will take a coupe of years to get people to change from these new habits.

Are you playing music with musicians or trying to run a factory production line?

Everyone should be keeping time. It's not the drummers job to keep time for the band. Knowing when a bass player (or drummer) is pushing or pulling the beat (not speeding up or slowing down the time) is a good skill to learn.

Had a bit more of thought. Extension lead for the fan. No cowbell. Pass lager across from the shelf during break in songs.

Very brief sideways glances at dropped beats. Ability to roll eyes silently during overlong guitar solo. Sips beer slowly while peering over glass while singer explains to guitarist how many bars of the outro there are.
  11. Depends how good you are. Can you get through a take without making any mistakes? You'll have to lay down a guide track first anyway. Will you lose energy each playing solo afterwards? How much do you rely on eye contact when playing, it's surprising how many visual queues bands use. Red light fever can be a problem, as soon as you have limited time and are paying by the hour, the pressure is on.
  12. This is a must watch for anyone interested in the history of synth music. Thomas Dolby didn't just make music he had to create the synthesisers, hardware, and software and storage medium and file formats. It's unbelievable how much of modern music we owe to his brilliance. 43 minute lecture. Worth a watch.
  13. If you want equipment from different manufacturers to talk to each other you need standards. Ironically, that song was recorded during the hey days of MIDI. Keyboards are still using MIDI 40 years later.
  14. The cable for the iPhone wireless charger is a USB-C.
  15. Possibly. My Zoom recorder has a USB mini and that's about 20 years old. Ideally pedals would be rechargeable as standard and be charged via USB. Either from transformer or a power bank. USB-C is variable voltage, variable current.
  16. The politicians just take the recommendations of the industry standards groups. All that's happened is they've legislated to make standards standard.
  17. Although Apple already use USB-C on most of their other devices.
  18. My iPhone lightning connector won't charge my laptop, my camera, my powerbank or my daughter's Mac. 🤷‍♂️ Not very standard...
  19. Europe moving to USB-C chargers from 2024. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-63132831 Good move as far as I'm concerned, the constant changing for form factors for plugs that essentially do the same thing has bewildered me for years. Recently I've connected my camera directly to my android phone using a USB-C to USB-C lead and it saw the internal card immediately. £8 for a lead and no messing about with other adaptors or readers.
  20. I remember filling in a massive multiple choice sheet which was then fed into a computer and spat out about 100 different jobs that would be appropriate for me. Can't remember what any of them were now.
  21. It's free. You can take it or leave it. I have absolutely no idea who you are or how long you've been playing but when you say you struggle to be heard in a low metal band I assume you might need a pointer. Carry on. I'll continue to give advice where I think it's appropriate. You can continue to be rude to people who are offerring help. 🤷‍♂️
  22. Doesn't matter how loud you are, you won't cut through that without some serious EQ adjustments, especially cutting EQ from the guitars who belive that a load of what they think they're hearing is guitar.
  23. Not as good, but still 12dB+ lower than on axis at the front for frequencies above 1kHz and 6dB+ for lower than 1kHz. That's why they're extremely good for live vocalists who move around a lot.
  24. I run my 500w Warwick ProFet at 4 during practice with a 2x10" At gigs I add another 2x10" and it stays set at 4.
  25. The area directly behind is used for rejection. That's the whole idea of them. Narrower beam at the front and greater rejection from the rear. As long as the levels from the rear aren't stupidly high. Putting monitors to the side will only help if your mics are static. But the super cardioid reduces the likelihood of feedback when the singer starts walking around the stage for the very reason you state.
