1.
I think you need a dictatorship not a democracy when it comes to covers bands - I think it's best left to the singer to choose songs, and that usually keeps the focus. If every member tries to choose songs, you can end up in endless discussions and disagreements. I doubt every band member loves every track & you could always start up your own band on the side to play other stuff.
Definitely, with the proviso that the singer sticks to the brief. Otherwise you'll end up as a <insert singer's hero here> tribute band.
 2. Maybe you need to discuss it properly with the band. I'd avoid heavy metal (like Ace of Spades) for pubs. I'm not sure you can separate classic rock between post and pre Punk. Classic Rock is Classic Rock. If you want to keep it more modern then you should stick to your guns, there's too many pub bands playing prepunk classic rock. However, there are certain 90s and 00s tunes that are very overplayed but go down well with audiences. It's a bit of a minefield. You need to be flexible but also need to steer the band in a certain direction as otherwise the others will drift aimlessly with random song choices. Maybe try and chose 10 songs from each decade from 70s on. That's should give you a good balance.
 3. Some interesting tests here. http://youtu.be/6SbrY4v7Kxk
 4.
I have had the pleasure of seeing the testing ground at MIRA in action, the test the drivers hate most is the kerb test where they drive at a kerb which is about 9" high at around 50mph (I think, could be anywhere from 40-60mph) and 45degrees to the direction of travel. It's a properly brutal test.
Sounds brutal. What happens if the wheel and suspension fold up into the passenger compartment. Very messy!
 5. My wife saw a car clip a curb and overturn right in front of her last week. They were going aproxomatly 30mph.
 6. Swap phone numbers and do the deal on the phone. If someone else becomes interested, tell both that there is someone else interested. Keep both informed of the highest offer and give them the opportunity to raise or give a final offer. If time is of the essence then let them know that, and tell them when you need a descision to be made by. Job done. Someone who says they've got to check with their Mrs first, should have checked with their Mrs first before calling you. 24hours is long enough to wait. If they've not replied, I wouldn't chase them. .
 7. No. As I said above the nominal impedance is only nominal. Between 30hz and about 10khz the impedance will be higher. Typically an 8ohm speaker might be around 32ohms across the mid range frequencies. He says he's developed a crossover and if there's a loom that fits existing cabs then he is using his standard drivers. Might be splitting the very low frequencies between the drivers via the crossover. .
 8. I'd be more concerned that they don't actually deliver their chocolates by dropping men from helicopters and via speedboats as is clearly shown in their advertising. It's very misleading.
 9.
. . . . and people are posting like they know more about this stuff than Alex does! Jeeez!
Can't see anyone who has done that. Alex's post on Facebook says it's 'Magic' which seems a dubious claim to me.
 10. Doing the maths you can't have two loads that when in parallel give 4 and when in series give 12. There is some smoke and mirrors going on. In the past Alex has explained that the impedance of drivers isn't 4ohms or 8ohms, those are just approximate DC resistances. As soon as you put a frequency through them the impedance changes and is usually much higher. I'm guessing that it's high enough at most of the frequencies we are concerned with to make no odds. .
 11.
Assuming there are no other resistors in the switching circuit. I am no electrical engineer, but I imagine that this could be done quite simply?
Not without wasting power.
 12. You'd have to look at the impedance/frequency plots to be sure of that. It says that the impedance isn't quadrupled as you'd normall expect when switching from parallel to series wired. Would Alex have had some custom speakers wound with tap-offs or something equally as clever?
 13.
Exactly my thoughts.
I just can't believe someone would leave a band over a few words written in an email. Couple that with not chasing up whether a proposed gig was finalised just leads me to think they're not that bothered about being in that band.
 14. Being a musician is just like any other job. Gigging in bars is just one aspect of the job and one way of making money. If you limit yourself to just gigging in bars you're limiting your income stream. An electrician doesn't limit himself to just changing light bulbs in a few local houses. Blue, I'd say you're limiting your own options by refusing to play in a 'start up' band and looking for a band who fit your criteria. Time to start your own band with musicians who share your passion. Network with the bars and venues you already play at and get second gigs there with your new band.
 15.
No one said he was an adult. They said he was a drummer.
And a teacher in his 30s. A right mixed bag.
 16.
Technical ability in both myself and my fellow band members is irrelevant so long as it does not get in the way of being able to play the songs we have written.
Ultimately that's the answer. It's no good being in a band that wants to play rush songs if the Guitarist only knows 3 chords or the bass player can only play roots.
 17. I think confusion can arise in communications if you don't word it right. "We have a gig on x at y is everyone available?" Thumbs up from drummer (assume that's a yes). The next stage is you confirming. Don't assume that everyone is going to count the thumbs ups or read all the replies. A lot of people tend to need to be spoon fed information. If you can't work with people who need to be spoon fed information, don't be on a band. If you're the kind of person who needs to be spoon fed information and gets upset when someone gets angry at you for being disorganised or 'uncommitted', don't be in a band. I agree, the big issues I've had in bands are when I've cancelled a personal event to do a gig and then someone else has bowed out at the last minute to attend a personal event. Eventually I'm now at a point where I just don't cancel events planned in advance unless it's a really worthwhile gig and my personal event isn't a major commitment. These things are never black and white there's always shades of grey. It's unusual to have a clash that can't be resolved. What was the drummer doing that was so important? I guess we will never know... .
 18.
sure but the thread's about being the worst or best PLAYER in a band not necessarily the best or wort band member. Often I've found myself in bands where the best player was often the worst band member as they were usually self-indulgent and not team players.
One area you can learn from is mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes when playing. It's all about how you recover from mistakes and how many you make. If you're always making mistakes and have to stop mid song there are three outcomes. Either everyone else stops and the band looks silly, everyone gets confused and the song degenerated into a complete unintelligible mess, or everyone else carries on without you and leaves you to catch up. If it's the latter then you're the worst player, if it's the first one then everyone is on the same (low?) level, if it's the second, who knows what's going on, one person will be driving the band and eventually it'll sort itself out or you'll all stop. Another clue is whether the band can pick up a piece mid song during rehearsals. Good musicians can pick up a song from any point in the song. Bad musicians will insist on starting from the top everytime. Which wastes a huge amount of time if the bit you all keep getting wrong is at the end of the tune. You can't learn how to do these things on your own at home, they're things you work out in a group situation. Then there's the learning of tunes. If you have a player who is coming to the practice without having learned their parts and then spends ages trying to learn their parts while everyone else is stood waiting. It doesn't matter how technically well they can play after they've learned it, they're not a good player. Again that's something you only learn when you've been in a band. .
 19. So he quits at the drop of a hat? Didn't offer to try and rearrange whatever it was he'd double booked. Can't keep a diary. Doesn't call you to try and apologise when he's upset you. His heart's not in it and your email was just the straw that broke the camel's back.
 20. If someone mentions a gig to me, I put it on my diary with a ? next to it. If something else comes up I query it with the rest of the band. It's not hard. In the old days we used to call it 'pencilling it in'. Actually, that's what I still call it, and do the same for all unconfirmed social and work events. .

 22. Play him at his own game. Ignore his clip, post yours and if he complains say there were no complaints about the first one. Unfortunately, you still come across this type of behaviour with men in their 40s. You need to develop a strategy.
 23.
It's because they're Canadian. We are very nice people.
Beat me to it... .
 24.
... As for the "SJW" label... it made me smile. Really? Social Justice Warrior? Give me a break
Thanks for that. I nearly had to reach for the google button there. Is that even a thing?
 25.
People are often surprised when these SJW's go out and try to correct people's behaviour and then get decked...
I think you'd be surprised how many people manage to calmly ask people to stop what they're doing and get a positive result. If you're frequently being 'decked' you should probably look at the way you're approaching these people.
