I was once in a band called Private Party, which was the worst name ever.... Not only did we suffer lots of jokes about private parts, but people saw the posters and thought it was a private party....

I've just joined too.... Got to admire anyone who starts up anything like this!

Are the extra screws for the pup guard? How can he date it so accurately from the serial number? The nearest I can get to mine is 77 or 78, serial number S861577. And how come a "reconditioned" bass is worth more than an all original? I thought a refin devalues it?

Anyone ever sued Led Zeppelin? I'm sure I've seen a youtube vid of about a dozen songs they've ripped off!

I think I remember that George Harrison got clobbered because My Sweet Lord had 3 notes that sounded a bit like He's so Fine by Phil Spector?

I reckon there could be a couple more in the near future. Is it just me, or does Noel Gallaghers latest sound a bit like Bus Stop by The Hollies? Or that James Bay thing sounds very much like Charlie Boy by The Lumineers?

I'm pretty sure standing up on the back of a moving truck is illegal anyway, if it's on the public highway. So even if you survive the risk of shock, you stand (no pun intended) the risk of prosecution?

Pretty off topic but last years finalist, Sally Barker, used to sing in my local in Loughborough every Saturday night (about 30 years ago) with a guitarist called Chris. I taught her Fairports Meet On The Ledge! She had a good voice then, but always used too much reverb....

Blue, I think you could be right, I really want to enjoy gigging, but sadly don't! I actually think I've pretty much fallen out of love with playing bass, and maybe even music altogether!

1, Rubbish band-mates. 2, Rubbish gigs that were poorly paid. 3, One band played way too loud so it was uncomfortable to be on stage with them. 4, A general feeling that gigs were more trouble than they were worth. 5, Band politics.

I bought a s/h HB 50's P from a fellow Basschatter a few months ago, I have to say it's a great bass! Easily as good, or better than a CV or VM Squier. The only issues I had were the scratchplate screws sitting a little too proud (sorted, 2 minutes countersinking with a 10mm drill bit) The scratchplate not sitting flat near the neck (too tight against the edge of the neck, sorted with a file in 2 minutes) And the modern shaped headstock (sorted by a local luthier, who re-shaped to something more fitting and refinished it for £45) I added Fender chrome from ebay and for less than half the cost of a CV Squier I have a great looking and sounding bass that plays really well and is exactly what I was after. It's more of a 68 Telecaster bass than a 50's Precision, but I love it! If the Jazz is anywhere near as good, you could do an awful lot worse.[attachment=168790:newbass2.jpg]

I'm pretty friendly with an ex pro drummer, who used to help my old band out when we were without a drummer (which seemed to happen quite often) He played drums with Cliff Richard, Barbara Streisand and Cilla Black, amongst others, and played on 2 Christmas Number 1's!

Slightly off topic, but some years ago, the originals band I was in was offered a gig in Fulham, which we decided to do. The deal was that we had to bring people, pay for the sound engineer and print our own flyers. The idea being that we got the admission money of anyone who handed in our flyer. So, we hired a van for the band, and 2 minibuses for our "fans" (aka mates) The band drove down in the afternoon and the minibuses later on (2 mates roped in to driving) Costs went something like this, bearing in mind it was 1994/5. Van: £60. Minibuses:£120. Finishing work early: £20 each. Petrol:£100. Parking for the minibuses:£14. Engineer £25. Beers for our "fans" £20. There was also food/drinks for the band etc. Total cost was well over £300, door receipts were in the region of £12 as most of our mates forgot that they were supposed to hand in the flyers as they paid their £3. Good crowd though, the same 20 people that we could play to any time we liked in Leicester! Sad thing is, we did it 3 times in total.... I quit the band after the third time.

I've been looking for a small extension cab to go under my MB Minimark, I'll be ordering one of those Harley Benton cabs next week. If the quality is anything like their 50's P Bass I bought a few weeks ago, I'll be a very happy bunny!

It was... [/quote] I also bought a non-working 120 with a cab (because I wanted the cab) The guy who sold it to me said it had just stopped working mid gig. I switched it on briefly and it did start to smoke quite badly! I sold it to MrFoxon! I did have a look inside, and the 120 is nothing like the 220, about half the circuitry!

I've gigged with an Acoustic 220 for 33 years and never felt the need to take a back-up amp. I did buy an Ashdown 600w, thinking it would be louder (when I was in a spoof hair metal band) It wasn't.....

Is that on Warwick Rd, Knightsbridge? If so, I once fitted the signs there!

In my experience, the smaller the kit, the better the drummer!
