1.
Went past there for the first time in months last week. They've got a sign up outside... "THE PLACE FOR MEN AND MOTORS" I almost crashed the car laughing at the image that conjoured up of leather caps and moustaches...
I wouldn't mention that to any of the regulars if I were you....
 2. Jim Rodford from The Kinks and Argent.
 3.
Anyone ever been asked to play louder?
Yes, at The Vic in Coalville.... Mind you, I was only using my 600w Ashdown and the guitarists only had a piddling 200w Blackstar and 4x12 each!
 4. Ashley Hutchings.... His stuff on the early Fairport albums is brilliant! Tam Lin on liege and lief just blows me away every time I hear it....
 5. Paisley Freight are also highly recommended by the kayaking fraternity.... I believe they'll ship a kayak/canoe anywhere in the UK for £35, which is about what I spent on petrol for the 180 mile round trip to fetch mine last weekend!
 6.
He could be the only person in the world that has it that way! does he know that?
I think the guy from S*M*A*S*H (remember them?) used a left handed bass strung upside down cos he learnt on a right handed and just flipped it over. I briefly played in a band with a guitarist who did the same thing..... working out what chords he was playing was, er, challenging sometimes! Actually, just googled them and he plays an upside down P!
 7. Nurse! Nurse! I think I need the bedpan......
 8. I seem to remember playing to ourselves one night.... except for a couple of East Europeans who only watched cos they fancied the singer and tried to chat her up as we were packing away! Biggest was the Loughborough Christmas Lights switch on, allegedly 7500. Best was the Vic bikers pub in Coalville, 300 hot, sweaty, fishnet clad, biker-milfs crammed into a pub screaming and groping the band as we played....
 9. Fender Precision, its what the phrase "original and best" was made for!
 10. My passive, ash bodied Corvette sounds brilliant through my Acoustic 220/402 rig..... Mind you, everything sounds brilliant through it
 11.
You clearly don't know the vintage car market
Maybe not about the vintage car market (although actually, I do know a little about classic cars) but I do know a car with 48 year old oil and spark plugs would have had no maintenance at all, and wouldn't run.... And if it did fire up, it wouldn't run for long because oil deteriorates over time as an engine lubricant even if not used, so would probably prove to be useless! The point, I and a few others are trying to make is, that most people, IMHO, would rather pay more for a usable, well maintained and playable bass than one that is worn out but original.
 12.
This. IMO, frets are like tyres on a vintage car.
Agreed.... would you pay more for a vintage Ferrari if it still had the original oil and spark plugs in the engine? Of course not!
 13.
I can usually spot a guitarist playing bass, it generally comes out as complete mush - I've always found that drummers make quite good bass players though...
I was once in a band with a terrible drummer, who claimed he had once played bass in a "touring band" He once asked for a go on my bass to "show you how to play it" After a few seconds it became quite clear that he had never picked up a bass before in his life! A few weeks later he emailed me to tell me I "should remove all the youtube vids of our band cos they do us no favours" I recently came across a vid of him playing in the worst band ever, really, truly awful .... Maybe I should comment on it?
 14.
Apparently Guy's only got the gig because Adam couldn't make it.
Adams probably too busy spending his pay cheque from headlining at Glastonbury....
 15.
There has been bit of "Guy Pratt bashing" on here in the past, but I like him. does that make me a bad person? (crez?)
It gives Adam Clayton a break!
 16. I must be happy, I've owned it for 31 years..... Bought an Ashdown head and with the intention of building a diy 2x15 about 8 months ago, not because there was anything wrong with my old rig, just needed more volume for my last band.
 17.
There are reasons we refer to them as guitards. They still use those cabs with 4 big speakers in a square shape, and then stand right against it.
I stopped calling them g*****ds a while back, I prefer ham-fisted meat heads nowdays!
 18.
Whirlwind from the late 80's. Still used every week.
Whirlwind curly one from the early 80's.... not used much now (well, it's curly, after all)
 19. I must admit, I've sold a couple of things on here and not been left feedback (even though I've left the buyer their feedback) and it's left me a little bit miffed. To me, it's just basic courtesy. As for newbies being ignored and the clique thing... Aren't you supposed to introduce yourself in the introductions section? I forgot to, and it took a while before anyone commented on my posts, or I started to feel like part of the community.
 20. I'm guessing you have too much time on your hands and don't get out much.....
 21. In the old days, bread used to come in bags with plastic tags to hold them closed (instead of the sticky tape ones they seem to use nowdays) These made excellent straplocks. In fact, my local corner shop still sells bread with these tags, I bought a loaf with one the other day!
 22. The Fender, because everyone has a Fender P Bass! Serious answer: Whichever one suits you best....
 23.
I saw hawkwind in 90 or 91 they where one of the best bands I've seen live, it really kicked Missed the Hawkwind doc last night hope that's repeated
The Hawkwind doc is on again (at if it's the same one) at 0:55 on Monday!
 24.
Although price isn't everything, it is a pretty good indicator of quality. The RBX170 is currently on sale at around £160.
While it's a fairly cheap bass, I've played one, and owned another Yamaha bass and I have to say both of them were of a much better standard than the price suggests. As far as basses go, Yamaha don't seem to do rubbish!
 25.
There was an ebay link on here a while back in which he sold a re-finned 62 Fender P (with added J) - went for £7,000. Was his standard bass in the 70s IIRC
As I recall, it was his son who was the seller and the bass had been autographed by Leo Fender when Fairport visited the factory sometime in the 70's?
