Looks like series to me, which if so, makes it 16 ohms but only 50w handling doesn't it?
No-one, but no-one, sang or sings better than Sandy Denny..!
This is true! Fairport were an amazing band around 1969/70... The worlds best folk fiddler, guitarist and singer all in one band! Not to mention Dave Pegg! -
HELP! I've just received a £1,200 bonus from work.
Well I'm going to be dead boring and say put it away. These are uncertain times we are living in and you never know what's coming round the corner...
Agreed.... The company I work for went into voluntary liquidation today, and I've been made redundant. I've been told that they can open up a new company in two weeks and that I'll be paid for my "two weeks off" and should receive some redundancy money sometime, but I'm not holding my breath! -
What do you guys play when sound checking
4-string-thing replied to gt4ever's topic in General Discussion
The folk-rock band I used to be in always soundchecked with Silver Machine! Don't ask me why, it just seemed like the most ridiculous song that a band with a mandolin and fiddle could do..... Never got asked to play it in the set though -

4-string-thing replied to ToneDeluxe's topic in General Discussion
You can actually watch the relief change as you turn the Allen key. What you might be getting confused with is whether or not the change is stable (chances are that if you are tweaking a previously perfectly playable bass then it will be). You will often read from the keen DIYers on here saying to give it a quarter turn then leave it for a day - well that's fine if you've got a week to set your relief. In my experience, you adjust the neck to the required relief then tune it all up, maybe go for another tweak if required then retune... if it's out the following day, just do it again.
Thanks Ou7shined While not actually being able to see it change as I turned the Allen key, it did move slightly within a few minutes. It had a slight backwards bend before, causing a little fret buzz, now it seems dead straight. Ill check again tomorrow and if need be, give it another quarter turn.

Just loosened the truss rod on my Ibanez by a quarter turn to give the neck a bit of relief (ooh er, missus) How long will it be before I can tell if its worked?
-
I reckon Ibanez probably do something close? My GSR190 (entry level bass) is black, reversed P and J pups, no scratchplate and is vaguely precision shaped, bolt on neck, black headstock and rosewood fingerboard. Pretty much everything you wanted except for the black hardware, which could easily be swapped. It also plays superbly and sounds great. I know this is a bass players forum, before anyone points it out to me, but I thought it might be worth putting an ad here anyway! I've decided to re-form my old folk-rock band and have got the excellent female singer from before interested. So, we're looking for a guitarist and drummer to get the ball rolling and will be looking to add other folky instruments later. It's a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know of anyone suitable in the Leicester, Nottingham, Derby triangle who might be interested?

ampeg 810 and acoustic 370 bassamp
I've lost the high-bid status. Do I bid again? It'll probably still be a good deal but do I really need ANOTHER rig?
Yes, you can always sell that rubbish Ampeg cab to some mug on here and buy an Acoustic cab with the proceeds! -
Opinions on the poll?
Clearly not many of Rolling Stones readers are bass players!
It's always sounded the same and it's a sound that suits me, but not everyone else since I play mostly reggae. Am I the only member of this forum still playing the same bass after 30 odd years?
Nope.... I've had my Precision 32 years, and my Acoustic rig 31. No doubt it still sounds the same as it did in 1980, but that suits me just fine. I now own several basses and an Ashdown rig. TBH, I doubt that I would be able to tell whats what in a blind listening test, some people might, but not me, my ears aren't that good! All I know is, that I like my old bass and my old amp, and that I liked them when I bought them!

I had one back in the 70's and it was a step up from my "Top Twenty" bass, though not much of a step.....

opinions please for budget studio instrument
4-string-thing replied to stringintheshade's topic in Bass Guitars
I recently bought an Ibanez GSR190 from a fellow basschatter for about £90 via fleabay and I have to say its a cracking bass! Great sounding, lightweight, versatile (p and j pups) and a neck thats slimmer than a racing snake! I'd tried a few Squier vm jags and cv precisions previously, but the Ibanez blew them all away in both build quality and sound. -
Used to have a H+H pa system back in the late 70's early eighties, loud, clear & bombproof!
I've still got a pair of Pro 100 PA speakers and they were used til quite recently. They are indeed loud, clear and bomb proof.... they also weigh about as much as a ford fiesta! They actually sound pretty good for bass too, stacked on their sides. They can take a lot more than the 100w rating and are quite small. Never tried one of their bass amps, but if one came up on fleabay cheap, I'd be tempted.

There is an old Acoustic 2x15 in the for sale section at the minute. If it's the sort of thing you're looking to do, I can take pics/measurements of mine for you. I'm about to put the original speakers back in mine (I replaced them with Eminence betas to increase the power handling when using my Ashdown 600w head) So it will be in bits sometime soon and would be no problem to have a quick measure up.

For Sale: 70s/80s Acoustic Model 220 Head + 402 Cab
You haven't heard mine though. Just sayin' ANYWAY this thread is about Acoustic 220s
To be fair, my experience of using Ampegs is limited to using one in a rehearsal room a couple of times, and not finding it very inspiring. Loads of people us 'em though, so they can't be that bad! At least the OP has had plenty of bumpage out of us! -
Thanks mate, I don't have enough money at the moment, to be blunt... but if anything changes and you still have it I'll be in touch. I can't imagine this will stay for sale for much longer though...
You could always sell that Ampeg to raise the funds, you'd never use it again anyway after buying this! -
Matt, I cant quite make out the writing on the amp in the pictures so could you advice what impedence (ohm) outputs are on the back of the head? Or the impedence of the cab itself.
It does say speaker outputs on yours, though for some reason it doesn't on mine.... The amp puts out 125w into 4 ohms and 175 into 2 ohms. It will run happily at 2 ohms. The 402 cab is 4 ohms, 250w rating. I use my 220 with my 402 and 404 cabs sometimes, which gives me a 2ohm 3x15" stack! Looks and sounds awesome! -
It gets worse. For myself, I'd pay good money to dress in a Womble suit and play Glastonbury. As much as it took.
In my last band, I used to wear spandex leggings, a leather biker jacket (bare chested) wig, mirrored shades, a German airforce officers hat and a leather codpiece! How I wished I'd only had to wear a furry suit!
Ooooo now these don't pop up very often. Bump. I'd totally be into this as a backup for the 'Peg if only it were a little more powerful.
Don't be fooled by the relatively low wattage rating matey..... This will eat your Ampeg for breakfast and spit the bits out! It'll sound better too -
Welcome to the worlds best bass amp owners club! I have the same 220/402 rig and it does sound brilliant with almost any bass (but especially a Fender P) The 220 is rated at 125w into 4 ohms or 170 into 2 ohms, though the later ones were rated a bit higher I believe. They do sound brilliant, but are probably not as versatile as modern amps and are quite a bit bulkier and heavier! I bought my 220 new in 1980 and have only just retired it from gigging, it's never broken except for blowing a fuse once after it had been stored in a garage for a couple of months. If you do sell, there will no doubt be a few takers on here.... Out of interest Oli, did you get that 120 working yet?
