I've owned a BBG4AII since 2000 and it's an amazing bass. I had to order it at the time as it was a non stock model, and you don't see many of this particular model in the UK - most of the ones I have seen for sale are in mainland Europe and the USA. The engineer recording it at a local studio was enthusing about it recently, as it had - in his opinion, such a great tone compared to a lot of the stuff he records. It won't (obviously) compete with a custom bass costing thousands, but for the money - I think they are incredible value - and the basic models are excellent instruments for learners. Why anyone buys a Squier when you can pick up a Yamaha RBX new for £140 I can't fathom, beyond of course the issue of image/brand. I actually managed to buy a 'spare' BBG4AII, in the exactly the colour I wanted - Amberburst, on eBay for £116 recently, and it was immaculate. I couldn't believe I won it for the price, but it was the best bargain I've ever had on eBay. BC member '4 string thing' was selling a blue/green one on here recently and whoever got that will have had themselves a bargain too. A
I did indeed sell my BBG4-A 11 on ebay last weekend. I got £165 for it, the guy was well chuffed.... I was gutted!

Agreed, there are only two things that should be slapped (in my opinion) Politicians, and newborn babies behinds!

Welcome to Basschat.... all very friendly and helpful here!
1978 Fender Precision.
Likewise..... even though I rarely play it now. I bought it almost 32 years ago and I'm planning on owning it for another 32!

You could just buy the entire Fairport Convention back catalogue, they've been recording folk with bass for well over 40 years, so if there's a song they haven't done.....it's not worth doing!
You'd be shocked at how many cats you can get infested with in a short period of time. Went from 3 to 29 in the space of about 18 months!
Good job your ex wasn't into rabbits then.....

What age are you looking for? I'm not doing anything at the mo and my girlfriend reckons I'm a total waste of time! -
The cats were a new addition. It just used to be me, a transit van and a pile of boxes - life was simpler back in the olden times...
Ha ha...you can't be that much of a newbie round here then, if you had time to accumulate, what was it, 29? cats!

I've just left an 80's "glam/hair metal" band, so it was spandex, legwarmers, mesh vests or leather/studs with wigs and mirrored aviators. To be honest, dressing up was the best bit of the band for me Not sure I can go back to a "jeans and t shirt" band now....
I've seen brown signs for 'Conkers' around the Measham M42 island area I think? Whenever I move house I move big time (Bedfordshire to Wales, Wales to Dorset, Dorset to Cambridgeshire, Cambridgeshire to Leicestershire) and I always spend the first few years in geographic limbo...
Yes, I think Conkers is sign posted from pretty much everywhere around here. Not to be confused with Moira miners welfare though, who also put on gigs and is home to the national forest folk club (I think) Although it is just across the road.... You certainly do move big time don't you? Must be a nightmare with all those cats!
Still being a bit of a 'newbie' to the area I didn't actually realise that Moira was on my doorstep until it was too late. They've got Jez Lowe this summer so I'll definately be along to catch that!
The outdoor ampitheatre at Conkers is a great venue, take a cushion though!
I had a gig tuesday night when they were in Loughborough (decided they needed some competition!) or I'd have caught them there - gotta be better than trying to navigate round/through/under Birmingham... I think the current lineup is probably one of, if not the, longest running one's they've ever had. Richard Thompson obviously has his own solo career and I'm amazed Dave Swarbrick is still with us - he's a man who just refuses to give up! They do all get back together ocasionally though rather seldomly (Swarb as well!). You might still catch the old lineup...
I saw Richard Thompson at Moira last year, Swarb was the support act.... They did a few songs together and I don't mind admitting that I had tears in my eyes....

I left a band a few weeks ago..... I used to think that any band is better than no band..... I still do
-
Not seen Fairport since Cropredy 1986 but almost went to see them in Loughborough the other night. I just couldn't quite bring myself to get tickets, I think its cos although they're still brilliant, it's just not the same for me without Swarb or RT....
In this corner of Leicestershire there's a 'traditional folk singer' who does the local pubs complete with didgeridoo. Longest I've managed to cope with it is about two songs then I just have to leave - usually when he starts singing "Wild Rover" and reaches for his didgeridoo for the lead solo...
I reckon you're pretty local to me but I've yet to see this guy....I'll certainly be on the lookout from now on though!
+1 Only one thing worse than a bodhran and that's a bodhran with someone smacking it! EDIT: Thinking about it, a didgerydon't is pretty bad as well...
Blimey, Bodhran and didgeridoo? That sounds like my ideal band! Actually I was once briefly in a band who had a bodhran player (no other drums) who was the band leader.... I didn't stay long, he was a tw*t!

Pah! You kids with your 10" speakers and lightweight cabs..... I've got a nice old school Acoustic 2x15 and its very easy to cart about and sounds great...so good, I'm about to build a replica with 2 400w drivers so I can use the pair of them! I can only imagine an 18 would sound better....I want to try one at some point! I'm 48 and my back is still ok..... my ears are shot though!

After a couple of years of my Stagg gathering dust in my music room, I've decided that the upright is not for me after all. And that with the constant earache about space etc I've decided to move on the upright beauty! So, its in "as new" condition, metallic black with original strings etc and is completely unmarked except for the fingerboard which has some lines under the strings (I expect all upright basses have these after a bit of use) It's never been gigged and has had very little home use. I've made a stand for it from a lighting tripod and this seems to work ok and will include it in the sale. It comes with its original gig bag too. It doesn't seem to suffer from the battery problems that some of them have, nor does the end pin rattle inside. Great bass for someone looking to dabble in the world of upright without spending shed-loads.... Looking for £250 collected. Will deliver within 30 miles or so for petrol money. Don't ask me to post though, it would be a nightmare!
"Whats better? a 2x15 or a single 15?" Neither. The solution is two 1x15s. It's the best of both worlds. Small gigs, take one, bigger gigs, take two. No slipped discs, and they're easier to fit into cars. Whilst I'm sure there is a difference in tone between the same two 15" units housed in one box or housed in two, I doubt that you'd hear it on stage. C
My solution is this: Small gigs, 1x15. Medium gigs, 2x15. Big gigs 2x15 + 1x15. Of course you do need an amp that goes to 2 ohms (in my case) Oh, my stadium gig rig is 2 2x15 cabs and 2 heads.... I've not had to use that one yet though!
