Cheers, sounds as though the GRs are at least on par with the BFs, interesting that you were willing to switch from the BFs to the GRs. The specs certainly look impressive, and I think Bass Direct have just got a batch in.

Sorry slight discussion resurrection here (will start a new thread if preferred - same subject though!) - has anyone had any experience of these cabs recently? Not a huge amount of info out there. I am toying with the idea of the GR 2x8 or a BF Super Midget, not sure which to go for. I’m after something lightweight, punchy and transparent that will cover me for practice and small/medium gigs. I already have a 1x12 that I could link one of these up to if needs be but it’s rather bulky and heavy, hence the search for an alternative. Thanks!
-
That’s great feedback, thanks. I’m after something light with maximum transparency and punch and that can work for both practice and gigs - so the 12s probably sound more suitable. Time to start saving the pennies methinks.
-
Thanks Frank, really interesting. I’ve heard many, many good things about Barefaced. Similar price to the GR and approx only 1.5kg heavier. Would you say their 10 or the 12 can match the punch you’d often associate with 8 inch speakers? (although I’m aware that speaker size is not the only variable at play in the sound of the Henri 8x8 I often think back to). Sorry don’t mean to take over/derail the thread - I think this is also useful to the OP

That’s cool, I like the look of the GR bass 2x8 (the uber light weight is a plus too). Not cheap though.
-
I actually like 8 inch speakers, I’ve played through the aforementioned Henri 8x8 and the sound was incredible. Unbelievable punch. I’ve wanted one for ages but they’re tricky to come by and I don’t have the space at home. Would be interested to try any of the ‘new generation’ 2x8s that are around, I bet they sound better than one might think.

Compact/portable amp head recommendations

Genzler Magellan 350 - small, lightweight, yet good enough for both practicing and small/medium sized gigs. As mentioned, if you want REALLY small though, the GR MiniOne is about as small as they come. -
I think you've done the right thing by returning it. At the end of the day there's no point you keeping an instrument where you'll be worrying/stressing about the finish every time you play it. The whole point of the bass is to enjoy it, so if anything will impact on that, definitely return it and get something that you're 100% happy with.

Yeah you’re both right - having another look the worst examples in terms of price on EBay and Reverb tend to be shops in Japan. Obviously Japan is expensive anyway, but even taking that into account they’re asking for crazy money.
-
I’ve noticed this a lot recently too. In particular loads of EBay and Reverb sellers are asking ridiculous prices for secondhand Warwicks - which are notorious for depreciation. Funnily enough no-one appears to be biting.

Great news, please do let us know if they get the cretin who pinched it. Could do with having my faith in the old Bill improved!
-
Hahaha, thank you, good sir 😂 I am also a fan of Danger Mouse myself!
-
Please do keep us updated as to how/when you get it back, I am hooked! As others have said great detective work and I’m pleased it looks like the amp is going back to its rightful owner.

I like salami so that must be why I'm keen on them then! 😂

I am thoroughly enjoying this thread I think a lot of these have been mentioned but here's mine: Basses that are unfinished and use OTT exotic woods to the point that they end up looking like living room furniture Names/logos on bodies 'Relics' - the whole appeal of an aged instrument is that it's got a story to tell. Why should I pay an extra £1k for a guitar who's story is that it got chucked off the back of a moving truck or hit with someone's belt buckle to make it look artificially old? £1k+ basses for sale that are 'plus shipping' or 'courier to be arranged by buyer'. C'mon, can you seriously not be bothered to spend 10 minutes on Parcel2Go and 50 quid to arrange delivery? Couriers will even collect from your house these days! If you're that worried about the cost, just add it in to the total asking price! Adverts/reviews of instruments that say 'plays like butter' or 'it just sings'. What does that even mean?! The phrases are so non-specific they wouldn't look out of place in a horoscope. Also...tort pickguards are getting a lot of flack! Genuinely interested as to why people don't like them? I'm on the verge of ordering a custom bass in white with one. Mmm. Have always liked them myself, but horses for courses and all that.

Thanks Waylander - liking the Conkers tribute 👾

Thanks TrevorG. Yeah the current spec on the Kimandu looks pretty decent, same preamp as the Kilimanjaro and they seem to be saying they are similar instruments with the former being the less 'blingy' version (no exotic top wood, hipshot hardware etc.). I would hope that for something made in Italy and costing north of £1k they are now of a good standard, just a shame there isn't a huge amount of info out there. As we've said, the RB association should imply decent quality.
-
Very nice! I’ve heard good things about these, I like that black on black colour scheme. Looks to be in decent condition too, nice find.
-
Thanks BassApprentice, I think I’ll drop Bass Direct a line as it looks like they did actually stock a few MarkBass instruments earlier in the year. I’ll see if they’ve got any more orders in the pipeline. Be interesting to know lead-in times, hopefully it wouldn’t be too long being ‘off the shelf’ as you say.

Haha, thanks. I was wondering when someone would notice the reference 😂
