1. I've had a Schaller roller bridge on my precision since the early 80's. Had the same 3 screw holes as the original bridge. It's beautifully mad and solid. Adjustment in all three directions. perfect... https://www.allparts.com/BB-0318-010-Chrome-Schaller-Bass-Bridge_p_546.html
2. When I bought my trace SMX in the mid 90's it came with a manual that specifically told me to pull the low end graphic sliders below the mid point to stop the speakers farting to death.
3. bloody typical. New tour announcement includes a date in Edinburgh the day before I fly back from the states.
4. Hard to believe but despite having been a fan of Stanley since the 70's I now find him a bit tedious and would much rather see ZZ Top again.
5. he takes an awfully long time to make a fairly simple point.
6.
If he'd annouced one date in the midlands I'd have been there.
Manchester and leeds ARE the midlands as far as us northern folk are concerned.
7.
Dennis's walking bassline on blue turk from school's out was one of the reasons i originally wanted to learn Bass always a tasteful and melodic player
This. And Gutter Cat Vs the Jets. First 2 basslines I ever learned. Wore out the original Lp and had to buy a new copy (without panties) after a while.
8. Ludicrously expensive tickets just bought for Glasgow
9. there's been some youtube footage of the original band from some shows recently - sounding great. I'll be seeing if there's any tix left for Glasgow.
10.
Well, has he actually said or played or wrote anything interesting in the past 20 years?
Well, he is appearing in the latest pirates of the carribean movie. Possibly billed as sir Paul Mcaaaarrrrtney
11. you'd be better off setting your relief where it feels right to you, not some bit of metal / plastic.
12.
but he wrote them from nothing, THAT is the talent, not copying it later and thinking it's simple.
simple? Do you not realise how hard it is to drop the needle back exactly where you lifted it?
13.
They will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame this year Bkue
You missed it Blue. One or two threads on here already - Geddy Lee played bass with them on a couple of numbers.
14. I remember when Relayer came out it stayed on my turntable for months. I even liked Sound Chaser and To Be over.

16. Saw them In Glasgow. Sadly, as ever, John Myung's playing wasn't distinguishable from the general hubbub. Viewed from the 5th row his fingers were flying but we couldn't make out what he was playing for much of the gig. He did however play Portrait of Tracy in tribute to Jaco. Our drummer was also a bit disappointed as Mangini's higher toms, his octobans and some of his cymbals were really low in the mix. Jordan's synth guitar thingy had some electrical problems, Inaudible at the start of his solo bit then some heavy buxzzing and a couple of electrical clonks. Having said that, James' vocals were better than on the dramatic turn of events tour and he's taken to adding some operatic embellishments instead of screeching his way through the really high stuff. Encore was the whole of a change of seasons!!!!! Overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10 purely for the mix. The playing itself was fantastic - petrucci just makes it all look effortless. .
17. I tried to do this with a couple of other guys in the 80's when slap was king. 3 bassists all slapping sounded sh*t. gave it up after 1 week.
18. back in Bannerman's Edinburgh Good Friday. 8pm onwards
19.
All bar gigs in the States are 4 hours with 2 ten minute breaks. Blue
Does that mean you have 4 hours of unique material or do you repeat early sets later in the night for a potentially different audience?
20.
That's an interesting viewpoint but no agency-using band I've ever been in has used an agency-owned PA or lighting rig. Is that a US thing?
Up here there's an outfit based out of banana row studios In Edinburgh that have a roster of enough musicians to put on at least 5 functions bands a night. They provide all the backline / drums and PA. just turn up with your bass and pedalboard. They also run a fleet of Mercedes crewcab vans so you can get picked up by the main road near your house and get chauffeured to the gig. Very smooth. Depped for them a couple of times and it's quite exciting doing a gig with people you've just met but I prefer to be in a band that play together regularly.
21. Dream Theater in Glasgow in a couple of weeks then nothing till James Taylor / Bonnie Raitt in Washington in July.
22.
<ashamed hands up>
Shame on you. If nothing else, listen to their greatest hits album 'Pride'. best track for me has to be love raises it's ugly head. Sadly that album doesn't include the classic 'Elvis is dead' - you'll need Time's up for that one
23.
I had an "interesting" encounter with Doug at a clinic he was doing many years ago which left me in no doubt that the guy was a total dick.
Would that have been around 1996? I saw him at a clinic at the Bass Centre in Birmingham around then and came away a bit disappointed. He spent most of the time playing with loops and noodling - nothing like his Living Colour playing (which was why I went).
24. My 79 precision is unlikely to sound the same as anyone elses....
