1.
Noticed how I slipped a sixth in surreptitiously and inferred a seventh ?
PEDANT ALERT.. you 'implied' a seventh, we would be the ones to infer. (I'm assuming you meant JPJ, one of the greats)
2. Bought Richard's LM800. Easy transaction - a great guy to deal with.
3. Earth, Wind and fire last night in Glasgow. Got to within 3 feet of the stage. The atmosphere was incredible the whole night - so much energy onstage. Verdine still has his huge grin but it looked incredibly forced - almost a look of fear behind his eyes.
4.
It's a shame they didn't keep Igor Khoroshev in the band for longer.
Igor was sacked after an incident involving some female security guards in montreal. I believe he was charged with sexual harassment of some sort. Shame cos he was indeed a very good keyboardist and one of the few to add backing harmonies. Back on topic, 'On the silent wings of freedom' from tormato is one of my all time favourite tracks. Lots of Chris doing what he does best. I don't listen to much after Big generator. Talk is fairly 'meh' and IMO there's too much billy Sherwood and Chris takes a decided back seat from Talk onwards although there are some special moments on the ladder. Fly from Here has only had one listen and I've not even bothered to hear the most recent album .
5. They didn't play Hysteria till after coverage moved to BBC2. Is it possible that had something to do with it? dunno myself - just speculating.
6. Same in Newcastle. Shame really as it was actually a great gig. Little dabs of roger dean stage furniture here and there too. think it was the first time we saw the little white MPC Electra X620 Outlaw Bass on stage.
7. His solo album 'Fish out of Water' gets regular play time on my turntable.
8.
Very good musicians and make a lot of sound for a three piece, just a bit boring after a few tunes.
As has been pointed out, they're not a 3 piece. Dunno why bands like muse and green day don't just make the sidemen full members of the band - they can't do a gig without them after all.
9. The Alembic family recommend pure lemon oil - no additives. twice a year for my roundwounds. Flats haven't been changed in 3 years - why would you?
10. Top of my list has to be Jimmy Johnson, incredible player and a great friend. then my earliest influence - Chris Squire. Then the two guys who shared duties on Rickie Lee Jones’ debut – red callender and Willie Weeks And at the guy I’m listening to the most right now – John Myung Dozens of others that I love listening to but very few that push themselves ahead of the band
11. I have an antique leather Harvest double and I'm very happy with it. It's a bit pricey but is well padded and put together like a tank. Quite comfortable but it does weigh a fair bit with 2 instruments. http://www.harvest-guitar.com/en/Bass-Bags-For-Two/
12. Couldn't say - packaging went straight in the bin. I'll check next time if I remember (it'll be 6 months )
13. I always get my strings from Mike Griggs' ' Strings and Beyond' in the USA. He often offers free shipping. last week I received a set of DR black beauties (5s) and a set of daddario Chromes (5s) for a total of £51. Incidentally, I never seem to attract any import duties - has the limit gone up?
14. "Who is Enjoy Yourself by??" -Guy Lombardo. Probably better known as Jools Holland's standard show finisher
15. 34" on my Alembics and I have no issues at all with the B string. 42" on my NS CR5M - Thunders
16. I saw a clip from the Glasgow gig on youtube yesterday - run through the light - and I was really disappointed. The whole band just sounded wrong and the singer (neil form the young ones?) was trying too hard to be Jon Anderson. might as well have been a Yes tribute band ( and in fact is one seeing as there's no original members anymore). A pretty lacklustre performance that sounded as if no-one could really be bothered.
17. Does your price include shipping (e.g. to scotand )?
18. That's a fair trek for your first gig! We have to go to Dingwall now and again and it's a bugger getting across from Forth. (especially with the A706 being closed at Breich. We ought to see if there's any other bassist withing 10 miles or so and have a mini bass bash. There's some instruments in your sig that I'd quite like to see.
19. That was three years ago. Has there been any news about it since?
20. I'll agree with Nova - Vimana. Percy Jones doing what he does best. I also have Brownsville Station - the one with the red cover - martian boogie, sleazie louise, my friend jack etc. had a friend copy it to CD as my Lp was getting worn out.
