I always have my Alembic fretted and fretless 5s. They were custom builds, fit my hands perfectly and are a joy to play. No point in owning them if I don't take them out. I sometimes take the NS5 upright if we're doing a bit of ceilidh just to ring the changes. The rest of my harem live in different rooms of the house so I can pick an instrument up whenever I feel the need.

You need to have the tuning knob the other side of the cog to the string departure direction otherwise the cogs will be pulling apart and you'll end up with slippage.

You can pick up the mark 2 version of the Zoom H2 on evilbay pretty cheap. (comes packaged with the power supply, mini tripod, cables etc. I've used one for quite a while and find the sound quality is excellent. good enough to use on your band website or example. Has 4 mics so you can record in 'surround sound' or stereo . Gives you plenty of options for setting up.
