1. If bass Guitar Mag had longer - in depth interviews with less well known virtuosos like Percy I'd maybe be more inclined to buy it. And I'll suggest Del Palmer.
2. Great interview. I know what I'll be listening to when I get home. Glad to hear he's not too impressed with Bruford and Berlin's attitudes to musical education.
3. Tony Levin was the bassist on most of the ABWH (not YES!) tour and berlin depped for him while he had a cold (unfortunately the same time as they videod the show). Billy Sherwood is replacing Chris.
4. Ok. maybe 10 minutes was a slight exaggeration but certainly within a week or so - couple of gigs and a rehearsal - they were going bald in the plucking area - fingers only - and showing signs of deterioration in the popular 5th - 9th fret areas on the neck. Pinks and yellows. I wasn't too impressed with the feel at the time anyway so I've gone back to Black beauties for fretted and Chromes for fretless.
5. The colour wears off after about ten minutes playing.
6. I like Skank's list BUT tony Levin is not a British bassist.
7. Don't most folk just pinch power leads from work?
8. Local. Felt really odd - all the tugging around. Doc refused to let me watch - killjoy!
9. Good luck with the recovery Pete. Post some pics of the stitching when you change the dressing. Those of us that've been through it already can compare notes :-) - My stitching looked like I'd done it myself with my eyes shut. cool scar though
10. That Nova album is rarer than hens teeth John. I have an ancient copy on Vinyl but I think the only CD versions are imports costing fifty odd quid.! My favourite BrandX album would most likely be Product. Wal to Wal is a superb bass duet and I love April.
11. I thought he was being discussed on here because of his overinflated ego.
12. Beyoncé already has a slot
13. Sometime in the 2000s I went to see YES in Glasgow. They were a few minutes into (I think) the revealing science of God or maybe Ritual - one of the topographic oceans tracks anyway - when Jon stopped the band cos he'd totally lost track of where they were and missed his vocal cue.
14. Any chance you'd courier these to Edinburgh? At my expense of course.
15. One of my colleagues reported this morning that he appears in quite a lot of the concert footage. I'll never know if he's telling the truth.
16. I'll see your Hissing of summer lawns and raise you Ladies of the Canyon
17. Funny. I was just looking for double bassist online last week as I remember reading it some years ago and fancied giving it another go. First 'proper' musicians mag I bought was International musician and recording world. Still have some in the loft - it's an eye-opener looking at some of the gear prices.
18. Some really good suggestions so far. Nice to see the Dead and Carole King get a mention. I'm going to go with Rickie Lee Jones eponymous debut album. Standout tracks for me would be Easy money and Last chance Texaco, Not forgetting Chuck E's in love. She's had some fine albums since but nothing quite up to this standard.
19. kanye West is an anagram of w*** yeest - I didn't think he was as good as that.
20. I found the op to be quite painless and recovery was pretty swift although I couldn't put any amount of pressure on my palms (e.g. holding bike handlebars) for a couple of months. The only painful aspect of treatment was the electric shocks they ran through my wrists to determine how bad my condition was. In fact, the nurse told me that the student doctors would use the apparatus on themselves for a lark.
21. To contradict what Delberthot posted about the recovery time, I opted for CTS surgery on my right wrist around 2011 and was gigging (with the same band Delbert just left) within a couple of weeks. This was my plucking hand though - I doubt I'd have been able to grip a neck for at least a month if it had been my left hand. Have had no issues since the surgery and can recommend it - otherwise the symptoms will just get worse.
22. I've only taken alembic basses to my gigs since 1996. I bought them because they're a delight to play (to my hands at least) so there'd be no point in not taking them to gigs. I worked out a while ago that with 2 basses, amp and cabs I'm travelling with the best part of £12k worth of gear but I don't spend much time worrying about it.
23. Jim bought my EBS Multidrive pedal. No Hassles. A pleasure to deal with..
