  1. Had a Peavey Zephyr. Nice enough to play, but the neck pickup was waaaaaay to close to the neck heel. Gigged it once then sold it on. Looked cool though.
  2. 2008 with 2015 neck. Maybe it is. Does the neck decide the age if it's replaced on an earlier body? Surely the oldest original main component should be the age reference. All supporting original documentation refers to 2008 also.
  3. Here for sale we have my lovely Fender Jazz Bass. It's a 4 string American Standard model, built in 2008. I'm the second owner of this Bass. The lowdown: Body: Olympic White. Very presentable with minor imperfections. Most notable are the scratches on the rear, and a bit of paint chipping where the front strap button is. Other minor blemishes. Original tort pickguard is faded in places. I have a matt black pickguard included in the sale. Schaller strap locks are fitted. Neck: This is a genuine Fender replacement done in 2015. Previous owner was having issues keeping the old one straight, so it was replaced for a brand new, Fender America supplied neck. "A" string lock included as per photos. I had my luthier remove a sharp edge of the nut from the G side, as it was digging into my index finger at the money end. No buzzing evident. Strings: Unknown roundwounds. They came from my Japanese Aerodyne. They work well, sound bright and feel nice. Pickups: Tonerider passive set. Solderless vintage control panel with vintage paper capacitors from Northwest. They sound lovely. No hum. Bridge, control knobs and tuners are all unchanged from factory. Action. I think it could go lower. I think it needs a bit of a setup in all honesty. Accessories: Fender hard flight case, and all case candy is included. The only thing missing is the Fender strap, which disintegrated over the years, so it got binned. I might be interested in a partial trade with a Fender Mex / Japanese sunburst 70s style Jazz bass. It's a great bass, and has served me well at numerous gigs over the years. As I'm in absolutely no rush to sell, I'll hold out for the right offer, otherwise I'll just keep it and continue enjoying it. I've also attached a photo of my details on a post it attached to my Fender amp. I'm not with the bass at the moment, so hopefully this photo reassures in regard to me being a genuine seller. I'm located in the far north Highlands, but I'm happy to courier / take a discussion re delivery to UK mainland addresses. I will not send overseas. If you're local, any inspection is welcomed. Cheers
  4. Very true, but I'd find it strange to recommend and pay for a course that I didn't vibe with. Twice I tried it over the years. Kinda like getting him the same type of car I once had, but didn't like driving it. Lots of options out there thankfully.. Cheers
  5. We've had a discussion already on floating vs anchored thumb ( floating favoured by myself ), to let him know there are technique options out there.
  6. So, my 15 year old lad revealed last night that he has a strong desire to learn bass, much to my delight. He's tried 6 string guitar before and couldn't really gel with it, but he's been playing violin / fiddle since the age of two. He's also highly proficient when it comes to reading music. He's so familiar with the sound of bass, as the house / shed has been filled with my own rumblings on the instrument since I started playing 5 years ago. Maybe it's a comforting sound to him, although I hasten to dive too deep into his thought process as to the reasons for this new desire. I don't feel that I would be a very good teacher, as much as I'm keen to share thoughts on what has / hasn't worked for me over the years, so the question is this: Which online course would perhaps be best suited to him? I've had a few tries with SBL, but I couldn't get on with the content and teaching style at all. To that end, I'm mainly self taught. I see Bassbuzz could be a good starting point for him. I've quite warmed to Josh's goofy way of teaching from the online videos I've seen. Gear isn't a problem, as we've a house full of exactly what he needs to get going. Any thoughts are much appreciated. Cheers, G
  7. Fireglo Curtains
  8. Just used for an hour or so on my AM Standard Jazz. Absoloutly nothing wrong with them, I just felt this Jazz with the Tonerider pickups was better suited to the Fender flats I had fitted previously. I might still have the original packaging. £30 delivered anywhere UK mainland
  9. I left a few days ago. It's all amicable. Their old bassist is coming back, and I'm a standby if ever needed. It's all good :-)
  10. This is exactly me at the moment Mike. Having re found my love of playing, I haven't felt the same about playing with others unfortunately. The thought of 60 mile round trips twice weekly for practice, coupled with all of those late Saturday nights after gigs, being unable to sleep because I'm wired to the hilt, was enough to make me quit the band last night. I have family reasons also that were hugely instrumental in my decision. It's been in the post for a while. The band are such a great bunch, and there's no hard feelings. Hell, I'm even in reserve if their new bassist ever can't make a gig. That's how good the relationship is with them. Now, it's time to take a dive into what I want to play. I'm never happier than when I'm in my summer house in the garden on a warm day exploring new tunes, and trying out playing techniques that are new to me. Looking forward to it immensely. Cheers, George
  11. Some great advice there guys. It's much appreciated and has all been taken on board. Happens to pass at the moment that the band recently lost it's singer due to "musical differences", so it's in a bit of a transition period while a new member settles in. For me, I'm doing much better head wise, and the love for playing has come back rather strongly. I do feel this is in part due to me concentrating on what I feel like I want to play, other than what the band would normally play. Admittedly, I'm rather familiar with the band stuff already. Thanks again y'all. The fact that people care enough to take the time to respond with their thoughts is super helpful in keeping my head straight ! Cheers, George
  12. I guess this thread is primarily aimed at others who have at some point felt as I feel right now. Without going into details, my life at the moment is quite challenging, much more so than normal, and I'm not at all in a great head place. This in turn has made me lose any desire to pick up a bass and play / learn anything. I'm also considering leaving the band, as great a bunch of guys as they are. I really think removing it all from my life might give me the breathing space that I maybe need. I'd be interested to hear from anyone with experience of a similar situation. Thanks, George
  13. A better angle here on a '23 maybe..
  14. I've really no idea regarding specs for the earlier 4003's. This one is a 2023 model
  15. Cheerio Chrome flats. I've returned to rounds, specifically DR Highbeams. It's growling like hell now
  16. received_642658321186921.mp4 It did get busier later on! Mainland Britain's most northerly gig on 23/12/23
  17. That's a super sexy bass. Love it
  18. Spot on recommendation. My order is now in progress with Steve. Much appreciated !
  19. Yes, I have. The optimist in me hopes no one will be silly enough to fall for it, but you never know
  20. My two Fenders are, I guess Bitsa's: Jazz: Fender 2008 Jazz body with genuine Fender 2015 Jazz neck. Tonerider pickups and pots Precision: Northwest ash body with genuine Fender 2005 Precision neck. EMG pickups and various pieces of hardware At what point does a Fender, for example, stop being a Fender? At the end of the day, I guess it doesn't really matter to anyone, unless I was to try to sell them and be unclear about their history. As I've no intention of moving them on, it's all rather moot..
  21. Have one of these for sale in Northern Scotland. Works fine, I just never use it. No leads included. Happy to post to UK address. Cheers, George
  22. Kinda like this "2006 USA Fender Jazz" for sale on Facebook right now for about £500. With incorrect decal, non registered serial number, truss rod hole and block inlays. The body is not right either.
  23. Yeah, I'm pleased with this tort guard that I just added. Probably the 4 or 5th colour this bass has had.
  24. You're right. I'll see if I can delete this now. Thanks
  25. I'm looking to get a replica pickguard made for an old cheap Jazz I bought a few years back. Originally the pickguard was white, but I vinyl coated it with matt gold wrap. I'm really happy with the colour, but hate how the vinyl feels when I touch it. Question: does anyone know where I could sent this pickguard to have a replica built in gold? It's a very unique bass that I can find very little details about, so locating any parts is pretty much impossible. Cheers, George
