  1. I got a delivery from UPS yesterday. The shop hadn't bothered to add anything to the manufacturers packaging, just stuck the label on it, and it arrived absolutely pristine. Related to this, I was wondering what cheap hard cases like this £50 one sold by gear4music are like - are they actually any better than lots of bubble wrap and cardboard? And would it make the parcel insurable? £50 hard case
  2. As someone who shelled out for the Beatles In Mono box set, I'm contractually obliged to point out that the original mix had zero stereo 😁 As for the stuff about the piano, we're very definitely listening with different ears and heads, so......
  3. The same pink paint on the same bench under the same lighting in the same month probably photographed with the same camera....
  4. It's a funny song, it gets under my skin, while I'm listening to it simply just existing suddenly seems tremendously exciting, and this cover really makes the most of that quality, and while its playing I feel totally revved up, heart and soul [/insanebabble]
  5. I'm listening on my phone, so clearly I've no idea what things really sound like - my head seems to fill in enough gaps to keep me happy - but here's another upload. The production strikes me as pretty typical of its time, but that's not an especially well informed opinion.
  6. I'm really really hoping that the SB-1 due to arrive sometime this side of the Rapture will neatly render the TRBX superfluous and take over its stand, sending the TRBX off to a new home. Both 1½" nut, both light, both strung with Chromes....so there's a decent chance. But I'm not going to risk saying anything definite 🥴
  7. Another stand arrived today so I was able to take a shot showing the difference in size between the BB and the TRBX. I should have thought of doing this when there was some natural light, but never mind.
  8. Cant bring myself to listen to it again, but I think I recall Siouxsie Sioux having to resort to yelping a long way short of Helter Skelters top note?
  9. Or, even better, a BB424.... 😬 Here's the two of them together
  10. My TRBX has a laminated neck, four bolt join and a regular bridge. My BB424 has the same laminated neck and four bolt join plus the 45° through body stringing. The difference in how the strings sound unplugged is massive, the BB feels alive in comparison. The other factors: the TRBX body is smaller, which the neck doesnt go as far into; the BB is 2mm wider and 3mm thicker. Which is the most important factor?
  11. Some extremely rough, rounded up all the way figures. The new Snowy White Special 4 H is on sale in the US for $2,500. Add on $400 for a fast courier: $2900 Convert to GBP: £2115 Add 3% for currency exchange: £2180 Add 2% duty: £2225 Add 20% VAT: £2670 So the Andertons Customer Service experience is costing £300+ Taking the slower, USPS -> Royal Mail route would knock about £200 off that.
  12. While both the 424 pickups are usable, I'm finding that I leave the switch set to both pretty much the entire time, which I guess bears out your comment. They make two quite different sounds, but ones which blend together well.
  13. Some guy did a comparison video of the 424 1024 2024....all white
  14. I hadn't really realised that SBMM prices had reached these kinds of levels too. The price of my made-to-order USA G&L SB-1 is suddenly looking like a bargain. (Ok not a bargain, but less of a ridiculous indulgence 😬 )
  15. A photo of that model is the wallpaper on my phone's home screen.
  16. I cant remember when or where I read this, so I might well be spouting utter balls, but I think if you don't bother to defend your trademarks etc from being used by one person then it's open season on them.
  17. I got that from Wikipedia: "Bennett got the opportunity to hear the Paul McCartney song "Got to Get You into My Life", which was used on the Revolver album but was never released as a single. Bennett recorded it, with his own composition "Baby Each Day" appearing on the B-side. McCartney produced the session. The record reached No. 6 on the British charts, becoming Bennett's biggest ever hit." Discogs entry
  18. I've had my BB424 a couple of weeks now and I'm still extremely pleased with it. I've carried on listening to as many youtube demos of the various models as I can bear, and feel that, for the sound I was wanting this was exactly the right model for me, not just against the 414 and 434, but even against the more expensive Series 2 models. So thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts and gave me advice back in December. I'm very shy of dipping my toe into the debate about what a bass's neck contributes to the tone, but I'm sure I can sense the combination of the thick neck + the strings coming through the body contributing something to the ringing tone. So I'm glad I went 424 rather than 414 for that. I can see why Yahama changed the style of the pickups from 424 to 434, can understand why the market would prefer the new ones, but for what I want the character has been diluted. Played side by side with the skinny TRBX, the 424's neck is more challenging, but since I can (rightly or wrongly) sense what it's contributing to the glorious sound, that extra effort feels exciting, not difficult.
  19. Interesting that it was produced by Paul McCartney, and recorded very very shortly after the Beatles version.
